In a litrpg, if a brick was able to gain levels, how would it evolve?

Uh, I don't know much about litrpg but if it is anything like a game, it could evolve into a wall, then a room, then a building, then a fort, then finally a skyscraper/castle.:sweating_profusely:

Depends on the writing quality. Half of them would probably just evolve to a human... :blob_whistle:

You could either go with complexity as said above, or with quality of the brick (material), or the shape of the brick towards tools/weapon/etc.
It could get powers like floating or transformation.
It could be able to use its body to create "mini golem" that run around and do the stuff and the brick is kinda the "ants nest"...

It starts as a broken brick, evolves into nice brick, then into brick of pain (looking at it hurts the eyes, much less touching it), then forgetting brick (steals memories from all who see or touch it), becomes brick of dreams (becomes a god of sleep), final form is universe brick (becomes a universe)

from a brick to a metal sheet to a gold bar and finally a chunk of uranium.
This sounds good. However, somewhere along the lines, it gains sentience and eventually the ability to chuck itself around. It's several years of isolation and being chucked around by people causes it to hate humans. Then kills all the humans to free its stony/metallic brethren.

it gains sentience and realizes humans have been breaking, tearing, and melting its brethren for thousands of years. and the rest is as you said.

Yeah, this is a giant problem I have with most titles like REINCARNATED AS "INANIMATE OBJECT".

Half the time they don't even remain as inanimate object. They just adopt properties of said inanimate objects. If you're reincarnated as a brick, you won't stay as a brick. It'll just be some starter trait where you're as hard as concrete, that's all.

by devouring other, more precious materials composed of the earth element. Gems, metals, things of that nature.

The brick evolving into a human/humanoid form wouldn't even be an issue to be honest. Rimuru and several popular non-human evolution protagonists return to monke sooner or later. The problem is that several authors execute their growth plots in the most boring manner possible, usually by only developing the MC's path from lvl 1 crook to lvl 99 boss and the perks they achieve between. Sure, they get more powerful and go through interesting changes, but so do my potted plants. Add something that'll make me care about the character's evolution and you can turn them into just about anything you want.

start from hard brick made of clay then
  • fire mage found a way to make it sturdier by using explosion spell instead of regular fire spell to made those brick
  • alchemist accidentally found out after spilling an extract of medicinal herb actually made it more solid, lighter, but just as sturdy
  • they start to experiment adding sap to make it even sturdier
  • adventurer guild try to using monster material instead (like bone grind or such), to add color and solidity
  • a renowned sorcerer trying to combine it with a certain magic stone making it able to store magic power, thus making a huge revolutionary within brick advancement in technology
  • the sorcerer's research are passed down to their pupils, and they succeeded to make the brick to be able to float in the sky without shaking and able to be moved at will.

Brick gains sentience from absorption of philosopher's stone("accidental") and then it evolves to become the foundation of a sentient floating island

Actual evolution is rare for bricks. Every time it gains enough levels to evolve it divides like a slime instead. Once you've got a few of them they start coming together, but still multiplying the same way. After some time, one will mutate a brain and start directing how they fit together to build structures. Eventually you'll have an entire city. A mimic city. That eats people. But only sometimes, so the people don't realize how dangerous it is and keep living there. Keh he he he, Ah ha ha ha, EEeeeh aaaaaahhh hhaaaaaa! . . . . . Where is Blob Crime? I wanted Blob CRIME!! Anyway, once there's a whole city more of them will start evolving, mostly changing colors or becoming studier materials to diversify the structures.

Brick evolves into a wall. Then from a wall into a brick of stronger material and then a wall again. This can keep going until it become a house from a wall (or maybe four walls). Or instead of changing material just becoming more of a fortress and settlement?

The defining characteristic of bricks, what it is that makes a brick a brick is its uniformity. The ideal bricks aspire to is to be indistinguishable from other bricks. True, unflawed bricks make strong structures. Flawed, cracked, impure bricks make structures fall down.

So how would a brick evolve? It wouldn’t. To do so would be a contradiction to its very nature.

Have the brick slowly evolve into a brick world, kind of like a planet, but its all bricks.

Clay brick
Fired brick
Concrete brick
Steel brick

Then branch off the evolution path to either:
1. Lighter bricks (aluminium, titanium, mithril)
2. Hard bricks (tungsten, adamantium, aurichalcum)
3. Environmentally friendly bricks (hemp brick, wood brick, petrified wood brick)
