You are of course right, there are many hit boxes that would deserve to be singled out, albeit sex is a rather extreme example. Maybe it is just the fact that these harem type stories - my erotica definition is relatively broad and not everything has to be explicit - have a small but very active community and therefore more often than not land on the trending page and annoy me with titles like "Why is my Harem World a Yandere Nightmare" and "Slime Breeder".

I'll admit that my erotica definition is far less broad than the average, probably. To me, a story isn't really erotica or porn anything like that unless at least 50% of the story is full-on descriptive sex. But yeah, I understand what you mean. Threads like this just rub me the wrong way since they often point at the sexual factor and then diminish the author's work and quality by doing so, implying that they wouldn't be as successful if they didn't include sexual elements, or implying that other people would be more successful if they just tossed in some random sex. That's the kind of thing that really bothers me. And we could just as easily use this sort of logic to point out any of those other common themes. 6/9 of the front-page trending stories are tagged with "adventure" right now compared against 4/9 tagged with sexual content. If I were the OP of this entire thread, I could say "It's just as I've feared, Scribble Hub is turning into Adventure Hub," = P. Alas, it just always has to be sex that people point out.

I do kinda dig the name "Adventure Hub," though. Anyways, that about wraps up our conversation, I think, plus I have other things I should really probably go and do. Thanks for a conversation that was more fun than I thought it would be. :blob_salute:

Oh, dont understand me wrong, I have no problem with sex per se. You can use it, no problem with that. But there is a clear distinction between stories that use sex as an amplifying literary element, legitimate use, and stories which clearly don't.

I don't really have that much to add this conversation other than the fact that I can kind of see both sides.

IMO, sometimes reader perceptions about a site can play a bigger role than the reality of the situation.

I think it's important to recognize the premise that many people believe that SH is a much more NSFW platform than many others. Depending on your objectives as a site admin (e.g. Tony), this reputation might mean something or might not.

I'm not sure if my memory is totally clear on this, but I've run across someone saying their writer friends didn't want to post/join ScribbleHub because they felt like the site (particularly the main page) was "incel-y".

And that kind of a reaction is purely the product of reputation and nothing else. I doubt most of the people making these kinds of judgements even read the first page of "Sex Beast System" or "Living as I please, As a loli Demon King" -- yet made a guess to the content purely based on the title and cover. In this sense, it doesn't really matter whether a story is 50% porn or 5% porn -- because the reputation is promoted by people won't even read the series.

If you see yourself as an author (perhaps a shoujo author), and you're clicking around ScribbleHub trying to decide if you should post your story here, it's naturally to click on the series ranking and get a feel for what type of readership the site has.

So ultimately it depends on what kind of site you want and what kind of people you're trying to attract here.

"Living as I please, As a loli Demon King"

If anything's a great example of 'dont judge a book by it's cover', it's this one. While there is sex and lewdness, the title is more literal than anything. After all, as a demon king you can do anything :blobrofl:

i do somewhat agree that there is a more noticeable perception of SH being an ero place. perhaps the biggest solution that could help rectify that is people not giving their ero-stories such blatant and corny names like "Goddess Collector: Every Hole is a Goal" and 'The Strongest Shota'.

Original ero-stories with actual plots can be gems, as a few stories on SH demonstrate quite well. My issue is with all the lazy and uber-corny SI fapfics that have been springing up in SH in the past few months that just barely stay outside the line of 'porn without plot'.

Writing sex into your story doesn't make it cheap and it doesn't make you any less of an author. Sex is like salt to authors, when used in reasonable quantities, it gives flavor to your work. If used over the limit, it turns your work into one hell of a salty, nauseating mess.

What pisses me off is when a story which is basically just one pointless sex scene after another masquerading as 'short, daily chapters' keeps getting to the trending page, cock-blocking actual decent novels from getting that spot. I have seen this happen couple of times on HS and on the back of my mind, I'm always like, 'why?'

By the way, what's PWP?
[/QUOTE]

It means: Plot, what Plot? Basically pure on smut with little to no depth, usually created by and for those who simply enjoy explicit one-shots or stories whose main focus is sexual content. Not my cup of tea, but each to our own taste.

I recommend you to sue the reply function. Otherwise, I will barely see any of your fruitful comments. As for why you don't feel welcome, well because it was indented so.
