I actually feel like it is, at least with short story. A full novel has space for a bunch of stuff, but a short story you kind of have to focus and get to the point. I'm not confident I could do anything like that without feeling 1) Gratuitious or 2) Mean Spirited.

Having someone with you in a horror story inherently makes it less scary though. . . isolation is scary.

Slasher isn't the same thing as horror tbh. But after typing that last message I actually had an idea for a story that would require a couple, so you're on to something.

Horror has so many types, TTrin. Otherwise all horror films would be Lovecraftian - as an example.
Even in anime, manga, and light novels, there's so many different types of horror.
Zombies are considered as being in the horror genre.
Ghosts are.
Heck, Dr Frankenstein's Monster is horror and there's more than one person in it.

The anthology's theme was macabre/cosy Autumn.
Macabre doesn't have to be scary to be macabre.
Example: vampires.
