It actually would. Money is fake, after all. Nothing is stopping food producers from just feeding hungry people if they were really motivated, and nothing's stopping people from just working because they know the rest of their country has their back and there's more than enough stuff for everyone.
Perhaps it has. Perhaps that's what kept USSR a global super power with best spies and nukes which could walk shoulder by shoulder with America despite being a communist country
The USSR wasn't communist in what I guess we'd call the "pure" sense, it was more totalitarian. I'm not even communist, but a lot of communists say it was closer to a failed socialist-dictatorship.
