They're trying to protect the children against the internet but forgot little Tommy's already making Vietnam jokes.

They may try to save children from the internet but they cannot save them from their parents

? What is COPPA and what has it to do with Youtube?
Nahrenne

It's an act to protect children on the internet, basically.
Several YouTuber's have made videos explaining about what COPPA is and what YT are going to do about it.
It follows YT getting sued by the FTC for breaking the COPPA law and getting fined $170 million this year.

and? 170 million? They can pay that with their petty cash. No problem, they are sitting on so much money, they won't even notice it.

*sigh*
It's not about the fine, it's about why they had to pay a fine and the consequences of it for content creators...

ah let the Americans be. They are giving fines for the strangest reasons and Youtube can bribe them anyway. Less dramatic than it sounds and this is not the apocalypse.

Mm...it affects every content creator on YT, where if the FTC deems your video as targeted for kids, you can be fined up to $42000 per video.
To quote the president of the FTC:
"It's like shooting fish in a barrel; YouTube is the barrel, and the content creators are the fish."

This may not be the apocalypse, but if we let this slide who knows how far they'd go.

I mean, isn't this how authorian states stem from? People not giving a shit and keeping silence and by the time we pull a Hong Kong its way too late?

It certainly feels like we're heading into 1984 territory...

not if you are from outside the americas. Then the COPPA can f*** itself. Unless, they are trying to ban everyone.

And we are already in 1984. Secret services had it never that easy. Therefore, no need to dramatize. Everything is already lost since Echelon started.

The youth kids app exists for a reason. It should be the parents duty to regular their kids in the first place, not the content creators
