How do you write a flashback into the middle of a chapter?

    A. Flashbacks are rarely worth doing. There's almost always a better way. B. If you are going to do a flashback in a novel-style format, always switch context where a reader expects it most: at the chapter break. If that means the original "chapter" you planned becomes 3 chapters, so be it. C...

”How will I explain to a four year old child, that...”

I know what you mean. Scribble Hub's editor does not play well with unique formatting. It's kind of frustrating since my writing style tends to be unconventional. But if you use an actual screenplay editor like Final Draft, it's insanely easy to use.

Why not go all the way and write a screenplay? :blob_teehee:

Just tell them memes are like if you put a candy bar inside a different candy bar wrapper and gave it to your friend as a joke.

    Need sample of battle scene

Joe Abercrombie's action scenes are remarkably well done. Definitely recommend reading any of his work for reference.

Where do I go to talk about story ideas?

There are multiple channels on the Discord where you can chat with other writers about ideas. If you have published something on ScribbleHub, you can talk to just authors in #author-chat. You can also ask for feedback in #novice-chat or in the #workshop.

A novel with 'light'hearted characters and righteous theme?

It sounds like you're looking for a genre of Christian Fiction with modern realism as a core component. Your request for "lighthearted" stories doesn't match what you're referring to, though. The Shack is about a man suffering from PTSD triggered on by the kidnapping, rape, and murder of his...

A novel with 'light'hearted characters and righteous theme?

@PrincEcnirP I have a degree in Theology and another degree in Creative Writing, but I am having trouble understanding what kind of story you want. Can you be more specific about the problem and what a solution looks like? My intention here isn't to be critical, but I genuinely don't know what...

    When writing multiple stories...

I've been writing professionally for about 8 or 9 years. I've worked on large, single projects and I've done lots of small ones too, sometimes simultaneously. Right now, I freelance, so it's common for me to be doing more than one thing at a time. There are a few things I've learned about...

    SSSC Feedback and Suggestions

I think one prompt is better. It makes all the entries about the same thing. It's important to keep in mind the purpose of a contest, which is to challenge the contestants and give them a chance to show their best effort. A single prompt that is more open-ended than II and III is what I suggest...

Need help with a character's mannerism

Basic physical gestures are cliché, not to mention overused and boring. There's another problem with picking something random: it's not realistic to the human experience. People don't just have extremely unique mannerisms for no reason. There is always a reason. Here's what I suggest. The man...

    Grammar?

@TwilightForest is right. Good writers are masters of the languages they write in. There are two things that will help more than most: Read award-winning published works in English, written in English, NOT TRANSLATED TO ENGLISH. Read everything you write aloud. Slowly. Multiple times. Some...

    Opinion on short stories

I agree and disagree. What makes a short story good is the punchline. But making the punchline good is about compacting meaning into fewer words. Poetry is obviously the ultimate result of that kind of compression. In my opinion, Hemingway's flash fiction example shared by @flucket in another...

Have Battle Royale games saturated the Gaming Market?

From my game industry point of view, I think the market's become as saturated as it can. I doubt there's any new addressable market left, so any new titles will be vying for someone else's marketshare. As a developer, I see the appeal for that type of product. It's non-linear, repetitive, and...
