Asking this sort of question is kind of pointless, most writers will just say their story is an exception just to get you to click on it Lol. Including me, but it’s smut and while the Guild Master is rough around the edges he’s a genuinely good person.

I finally found the Saint lying on the grass near some hedges that were covered by trees. Her beautiful dress was stained by the dark red color of her blood, flowing from the wounds on her arms, near the wrists. Beside her was a pair of bloodied scissors.

“K-Kuro? You’re too noisy…” she weakly smiled at me. Her Holiness’ lips were already pale.

“What the hell are you doing?” I wasted no time; I tore off a portion of my shirt and quickly made a makeshift tourniquet to prevent further bleeding.

“Don’t do it; that’s your shirt from your old world.”

“Shut up, will you?” I snapped at her, “If you’ve the time to remind me of that, at least be responsible and take care of me ‘till the end.”

The Saint kept silent as I tried to apply first aid on her. But I could see the tears flowing down from her eyes.

“It’s alright, Your Holiness.” I reassured her, “Your friends are looking and are worried about you.”

“I want to forget my pain…” the Saint began sobbing terribly, “I cut myself so I can feel more pain and forget the one that’s in my heart…”

Shh…calm down, Your Holiness.” though I may not be the right one to do it as of now, I guess she could forgive me later.

“…”

Gently, I hugged the Saint. “I understand you. But this isn’t the right way to do it. Don’t worry, you’ll be fine.”

Damn, she needed help as soon as possible.

Should I carry her?

“…”

But if I made a mistake, I might drop her and she gets even more injuries…

Fuck it! I’m too useless!
My work's about a teacher that was summoned to another world, without the ability to use magic. If you're into MCs that slowly grows as the story progress, feel free to check mine.

It’s usually hard, for new writers especially, to make that work without making their MC seem like a doormat or just plain stupid and naive. That is my theory on why something like that is few Webnovels.

Though, that doesn’t mean they don’t exist. And, I’ve seen even the ones with ulterior motives show moments of pure kindness, usually in a “save the cat” scenario though, purposefully used to make him or her likeable.

Yeah, people would call the MC "beta" or something for it.

And my MC is exactly like that. :ROFLMAO:

Most of my MCs are good, though some are more selfish than others. In my most recent novel, Orphan Queen Valkyrie, Val is a street-smart orphan who's repeatedly incensed by the unfairness and injustice that she sees in the world and she does what she can to stop it. She helps her friends, her new adopted family, and even strangers she doesn't know because she thinks it's the right thing to do. And she's a real firecracker who gets very, very angry when evil people get their way. So if you're looking for a main character who's pretty much the opposite of a passive, naïve beta protagonist, it's Val. And that, more than her secret, ancient bloodline, is why people are drawn to her and why she's destined to be queen (or so the title suggests).

Mine cares about the environment and spends some time volunteering 😇
She'll do more things here and there throughout the story. I'd call it a healthy balance of doing things for herself and doing things for others.

That's because most people are selfish or very self centered.

Authors write characters like this so that people can better identify. I think this is more of a writing technique than anything.
Just look at this gem :

Granted, he suffered far worse than the targets of his revenge but......

It's still pretty extreme revenge porn type stuff. And...people love it.

Welp, you can take a peek at my series, both have an MC that's caring but not a wimp. While in the second one he can be a bit colder to others than to his close ones, that still doesn't change the fact he usually extends his hand to people who didn't do anything bad to him before. I guess in the first story he is way more helpful to others outside due to his "teacher" nature.

My fantasy novel on webnovel is also like that. He is a novice monk and baker. He helps anyway he can.
A fair price truth seeker chronicle book 1
Awe by ergen is also a good MC but he is also trickster.
There are others like parallel world pharmacy, shoukoku no Altair, mushoku tensei etc.

Really depends on the context. Imho, the concept is based on the morals of our (real) world.
It makes sense for cultivation/isekai fantasy worlds to not have this kind of conditioning over the MCs.
You know, even in real life would you potentially risk your life for a stranger just because is the "right thing" to do? Without any further objective? I don't think so.
Expecting it is a naive way of thinking caused by our society facade of values.
In a world were violence and war is not only accepted but common place it's pretty normal to not help others.

Edit: Btw, I have kind of pessimistic view about our society. And yes, my reply was not a recommendation, although I would give a shot at Saileri's novels if you are searching about care and affection feelings.

I just got blasted today for my MC being way too indifferent to a stranger's death in a dungeon and how inhumane and impossible such behaviour is for a teen (19 years old man) :blob_hide: Sometimes I think that the region where I live is like a fantasy land where people who don't faint on the sight of blood exist. But then I remember USA exists (no offence) and understand where all that sheltered mindset comes from.

I really like Doomsday Wonderland.

The MC is very upright, she would never kill just for the heck of it, she also helps if she can help. But that doesn't make her any less cool and badass imo.

(It's also a novel with female MC that doesn't feature Romance, which is a plus)

Hmmm, so this ones kinda tough because I've read a ton of stories with really kind and compassionate mc's (the key is to read stories from women authors lol) but i don't know what genres or types of stories you prefer. So i'm just gonna wing it xD

I didn't ask to be the Demon Queen
The Wolves and the Lightbringer
Cuddle & Monster
Cultivating Change
There is no Epic Loot here, Only Puns
A Fractured Song
Medusa and the blind woman
Nora and the Search for Friendship
Synth
The Demon Lord's Lover
Dungeon 42

again, not sure if our tastes match, but hopefully you find something you enjoy!

Wanna try a story about an MC who got two faces-- one who helps others and one who just wants revenge? Here's the story of Zack Will, a new spy who goes through utter chaos, but still have the courage to dream of a peaceful life, while saving his sanity throughout. He sees betrayals, friendship and his trust being broken into tiny pieces. The story got lots of action scenes and great turnarounds. Please try it ^^

My MC starts as a misanthropic loner but eventually learns to trust people and put herself on the line for others, even if she kicks herself while she's doing it.

I would say that the U.S and many western European nations tend to be more sheltered, due to generally being safer than other places. For instance, I've seen two traffic accidents that resulted in death, one in the U.S and one in Vietnam. While I would say that the Vietnamese were far more indifferent, partially due to how common traffic accidents are, there was still plenty of indifference among the people at the scene in the U.S.

At the end of the day, a lot of people don't care too much about the death of someone they don't know. They'll think of it as unfortunate and just move on in general, even if they witnessed it first hand. Of course I might just be projecting my own emotional state on people who didn't show visible emotional reactions.
