Playing with a black rose in my hand, I went to the most extravagant tavern in the Spire Reef and ordered a private room all for myself and some pirates I took as my guards. The table inside was filled with various goods, including boozes of high quality and food some pirates had never seen before. Of course, there were no lacks of prostitutes, including both male and female. They wore revealing clothes while dancing and seducing everyone in the room.

If anyone wanted, they could pick and choose them then went to the inner chambers to relieve themselves, as the privilege of the VIP room. Of course, without my permission, none of the pirates dared to act too vulgar, and would only touch and caress, but no stripping.

Waiting, I did not touch any feast and silently closed my eyes, allowing the pirates to have time to relax and taste the goods. The voice of the prostitutes echoed the room, filling it with a lewd atmosphere. The fragrance of both perfumes and food lingered and mixed together, creating a calm yet chaotic vibe to the room.

Sometime after, I could feel the sounds died down, and the chaos subsided. A series of footsteps resounded from the outside, before the door was knocked. I remained seated and still, waiting for the expected noise.

At least, a creak rang, and the door became ajar. Followed by a series of screams and panic, before falling into the absolute silence again. The air was filled with a new scent, the bloody fragrance. The melodic voices were gone, and only the strange vibe of the VIP room remained. The muttering noises of the pirates faded, and the only sounds of footsteps came to an end, in front of me.

"Slivery Witch, greeting to you, the new rising star of the Spire Reef..." As I opened my eyes, my vision was greeted with a bloody scene of corpses and gore. Three figures stood in front of me, covered in crimson shade, seemingly bent in with the blood in the room perfectly.

Letting the black flower on my hand fell, I observed the figure in the middle, indicating that he was the leader. He was also the man whom I saw during my escape from the Spectre Plunderer and the Terror Mermaid. I knew that he would come, that why I waited here.

"... So, what is your purpose for coming here?" I asked, not caring about the death of the pirates I brought with. After all, they were simply lowly crew members, and could be replaced at a whim.

"Miss Luna, do you desire greater fame and wealth? Don't you think that Misty Puppeteer was dragging you down?" Not answering my question, the man in the middle instead asked me. He took the lead and I followed his lead, letting him take control over the flow of the conversation. The illusion of authority was set.

"Who in Spire Reef does not believe in wealth? It's just that they don't really satisfy me, after becoming so strong, none of these ordinary things doesn't please me anymore." I answered, knowing full well of their intention and purpose. However, to exploit them, intentional weakness and confusion were necessary.

"What about the death of these pirates? Do they amount to nothing in your eyes?" Holding the head with a terrified expression, the man continued to question me.

"Merely trashes, not worth my attention. Anyone, not witches and shamans, was merely cannon fodders." Silent ensured after my arrogant tone and sentence. In their eyes, I should be a tyrannical figure, aiming high while disregarding moral and friendships. Exactly as they wanted.

The silence continued for a while, before one of the other two flashed and disappeared, before appearing in front of me with a knife placing just right near my neck. If he pressed it gently, then it would slide across my blood vein, and death would likely come to claim me, if I was merely a normal pirate, that is.

A surprised and terrified expression surfaced from my face. I forcefully contracted my eyes and took a step backwards, letting sweats formed on my face. I even looked at the figure in disbelieve and confusion.

"As expected, just barely passable. Little witch, you think that you're so good, huh? Maybe you are a little famous among the trash, but to us, you're merely a slightly bigger ant!" The man retracted his knife and walked back to stand behind the leader, smiling in satisfaction after witnessing my arrogance turned to fear.

"Barely passable is still a pass— Here, take it and look at it after you're prepared. If you really intend to rise above the mountain of trash, then come to us. The Pirate King would never mistreat the talented, on the condition that you are a talented one, of course." Dropping a greyish letter on the blood-soaked floor, the man turned back and slowly made his way out of the VIP room.

My shocked face, lingered around for a long time, made the trio smiled. They thought that I was surprised at the invitation, and feared the name of the Seven Pirate Kings.

Picking the letter up, I made my way out of the VIP room. To my surprise, the entire tavern was silent. It was only apparent to me after walking to the main hall, that the trio had killed everyone in here, except me. Only this moment did I realise that the Seven Pirate Kings were even more cruel and sadistic than their rumours suggested.

She was annoyed at the woman. Would she still have to encounter that woman as receptionist? That one made her really mad even when she just thought about her. Then, she decided, it was time to take a break.

It was the right decision to take a break, mei felt. The breezy wind flowing against her body. The yellowness of the field ready to be reaped, as far as she could see. The windmill that occassionally creak loudly. It was a place of serenity for her right now. She just have to let the horse work, with occassional nudge here and there. In the end, she passed her first day peacefully.

The second day was also uneventful. The chirping birds, occassional goblin attacks, the other traveler coming back from asteria to scribel city, there was just nothing that could disturb her peace right then. What should she write, she wondered? She thought of it, but she couldn't come up with anything. As it was, she safely finished her second day to the asteria village.

According to the record she had read, the road leading to asteria village only took three days. It was already her third day, and she hadn't yet come to asteria village. Was she in the right road? The previous traveler she met was saying that this road was the right one. It was not like she had found a fork, too. Then, how long before she arrive at asteria village, she wonder.

Okay. There it was. She saw something on the horizon. Was it asteria village? She just wanted to rest at this point. she lashed the horse to hurry it up.

At last, she arrived at the village. As she handed the wagon to the merchant guild representative there, the representative gave her a paper that she had to give to the merchant guild. After she gave the man her thanks, she went back to the merchant guild to give the paper, and went to the guild to report her quest completion.

Therefore, the conclusion from her short journey was that boredom was the enemy.

It was a rather fine night, and Vicious was taking a walk around Scribel city. Okay, to be honest it was around two in the morning according to her body clock and the city was mostly asleep save the night guards, but she'd decided to get some night air, and passed by the gates earlier to wave hello to the lookouts on duty. She even walked a couple of streets with two of the patrolling guards, engaging in superficial conversation, before splitting up at a junction.

She'd then visited the slums to check up on a few acquaintances, but there was one more objective; she'd checked with some of her homeless contacts regarding a boy with orange-coloured eyes, following what Felicia had told her in a tavern conversation a few days prior. They came up empty, but Vicious was not disappointed and bade farewell after dropping off some things for the kids. She then hummed quietly as she continued with her walk.

At some point, she turned into a sector of the city which she'd never been to before, and her ears picked up on a faint scratching sound. It didn't sound like a stray animal, so she followed the noise and came to a rather large house. Hanging onto one side like a koala bear was a man dressed all in black, a bandanna pulled over his head.

She watched, somewhat bemused, as the man tried to find purchase on the brickwork in order to climb up and reach the window. Which was closed. He was fiddling with it, not really paying attention to his surroundings, so the amused Liberi spoke in a low and even tone, as if she'd met someone taking their pet out for a walk.

"Forgot your keys?"

She didn't think she'd deliberately tried to scare him, but the man lost his grip on the brick instantly and fell onto the ground. He laid there for a few moments, blinking, before jumping back onto his feet. Idly, she noted the thin, bent piece of metal wire in his hand, the way the black-attired man was glaring at her, and Vicious nodded. It started to make sense now.

"Ah. Up to no good, are we? So who's the unfortunate victim being mugged tonight?"

The words seemed to have poked a sore spot for the man. He growled, but not so loudly as to wake the neighbourhood.

"Victim? I'm the victim here! If it were not for him, I would have been living the good life!"

Vicious raised an eyebrow. She'd noticed the man's bloodshot eyes under the faint moonlight.

"Ah, so it's a grudge. Well, have fun then. See you."

She'd turned to leave, taking three steps before ducking down. The bo passed over her head harmlessly. Sighing, she turned back to look at the man, who was now in a fighting stance.

"I can't let you leave, now that you've seen me."

"You should really think twice, you know. I won't bother you if you don't bother me."

Saying thus, she sidestepped another strike. The mysterious man growled as he leapt forward, still talking.

"You'll warn the guards! I know you will! That's all bitches like you know to do! Find the richer bastard, then hide behind them!"

"'Scuse me?"

Vicious frowned, but the man continued, giving a coarse laugh.

"I won't give you the chance, you filthy bitch! You'll come home with me today!"

He brought the striking end of the wooden staff down at Vicious with all the force he could muster---

"You should mind really your words. A loose mouth brings much disaster."

*Crack*

The upper half of the bo fell onto the ground, rolling away slowly. What remained was in the hands of the man, trembling as he brought the broken bo closer to his face to examine it.

"What---"

Then she closed the distance in two steps and her knee found him right in the family jewels at the same time her palm caught him in the temple. The man dropped like a sack of bricks.

"Alright, now it's off to the guards with you...Hmm...?"

Whilst digging through the unconscious man's personal effects, she found some forms of identification on his person. The Liberi racked her brain, trying to remember the requests posted on the board, before going through all of them again just to double check.

"David Fralden...if memory serves, there was a request for this guy, wasn't there? Hmm. Well, I'll go and check. If there isn't, he's going to the guards. If there is...well, he's going to the guards anyway. Assault is a crime after all."

Saying thus she tied him up, left him there, and popped over to the guild.

*****

There would be a small commotion in the city's markets the next morning. Apparently, the first few stall owners to arrive had discovered---none too delightedly, one might add---that a man had been left tied securely to a tree's trunk wearing nothing but bound ropes and a loincloth. There was a piece of paper nailed into the wood next to him, along with his clothing fluttering in the early breeze.

He was still sneezing in the morning chill and shivering when the a few of the guards on the morning shift arrived to get him down, with a sizeable small crowd looking on, and even when he was finally freed the man stayed sitting on the floor which he'd immediately collapsed onto, rubbing his wrists and ankles which were still sore from being bound for so long. One of the guards was reading the piece of paper ripped off the tree trunk.

"Bring him back. We'll sort this out back in the barracks."

According to the paper, he had attempted to break into a house, which would later be identified as the house of a certain Julrik, and attacked a passer by who witnessed the act. The paper was signed with nothing except the initials V.

Far away, sitting on a rooftop and observing the event with a smile on her face was Vicious, flipping David Fralden's adventurer identification card in her hands. She'd need it to turn in her report, after all.
Tags: Slums, Scribel City, City Guard, David Fralden, Julrik

:blob_aww::blob_aww::blob_aww::blob_aww: Vicious is so cool!!!!!!!

*ahem* Um, back to work.

I think Julrik was hoping to have to have someone fight on behalf of him in a duel... and this wasn't exactly an official duel... so I think Julrik will still need to deal with that guy later in the future... so the problem isn't exactly solved. Half credit!

Since she had been back in Scribel City for some time and was starting to feel better, Vicious figured she'd do a quest or two to earn some spending money. Staring at the board, she noticed one that was buried behind several others and took it out to read.

"...A locked door in a cavern, huh. It's gotta be either trap or treasure. Well, it's not that far, so I'll just pop out, finish the job and come back for lunch."

Say thus she left the city and sped off in the direction of the waterfall.

*****

She took a few wrong turns and had to retrace her steps, but it didn't take the girl more than half an hour before she arrived at the river in question. As usual, the girl had not brought along her backpack. Neither was the kanabo with her either.

"Well, I suppose it's a good thing my new outfit doesn't absorb much water."

Still, she wasn't just about to jump into the river and cannonball over the waterfall's edge without a plan. That was plain stupid.

So instead the Liberi followed the river to it's course, all the way to the side of the large waterfall, and looked down.

It was rather high. And hitting water from high up was no better than hitting concrete.

Guess I'd better be thankful I had practice jumping off apartment blocks regularly. Who knew?

Taking a deep breath, Vicious cradled her head with her hands, built up a small running start, and hopped off the edge of the waterfall feet first.

For the sake of simplicity, the short cussing session after she'd emerged from the waters soaking wet shall be omitted.

Similarly, the longer cussing session where she ducked and weaved and crashed drapnirs together while searching for that one elusive hole in the ground has also been omitted.

For the sake of keeping it minor friendly, the *bleep* when she'd accidentally put a foot into the hidden cavern entrance has also been omitted. Vicious tucked herself into a roll at the last minute to prevent landing badly and breaking a leg.

Patting the dust off her outfit, she looked around. Just as ordered, a cavern stretched out before her.

Well, cave goblins and trolls. Let's take a look at this creepy cathedral door thing, shall we?

*****

It took her a while to get to the place, bypassing the roaming trolls and goblins sneakily. It wasn't difficult to put them down, but she'd rather not end up in another underground brawl so soon after Gelderholm.

She also bypassed the treasure room filled with lies, and didn't bother picking up any of the broken blades. Maybe some of them were worth something, but even if they could be reforged, her tastes weren't in slashing weaponry.

Casting her eyes over, she picked up an old signet from the pile. The surface was rather worn---it had once been bronze, she guessed. The item bore various manners of wear and tear and scratches, but unlike the other rings gave no indication that it had been lying there for e a long time. Still, that was only part of the reason why she had picked it up.

The once-intricate design had been largely eroded away, but the item must have been a real work of art in it's prime, for she could still make out the motif---ten angel wings furling into a small depression in the centre. Instinctively, with no basis for it whatsoever, Vicious knew that there should have been a ruby socketed into that depression. Yet now there wasn't any.

Hmm...

Out of a sense of novelty, she stuck the ring on the index finger of her left hand, and continued on. Towards the towering door.

As she approached, the girl mused that the report had been rather accurate; the massive double doors did resemble those of a cathedral's, but were wholly black in colour. Several chains stretched out across it's surface.

The girl raised an eyebrow. The chains weren't just randomly scattered. Each set of lock and chains blocked out a circle in the door, and the circles were arranged in a very specific layout; four in a straight line in the centre, three on either side. The top circle in the middle row was the highest, and the top circles on both sides were of equal height, somewhere between the topmost middle circle and the second middle circle. Lines were racing across the door, connecting circles together.

What could these mean? It looks like a...tree of some sort.

Just as she lifted a hand to touch the door, Vicious felt it. There was a presence behind it; surprising her a little. However, after staying calm and paying more attention, instead of being a malicious spirit, it felt more like a...sad one. Something behind the door was trying to evoke the sense of melancholy, but otherwise the door was safe to handle. She had a gut feeling that inside would be similarly safe, as well.

She tried on the locks. No luck. The chains barely rattled, and she held off on pummeling it with her fists. Instead, she observed the hole on the lock of the lowest circle on the left. It didn't look like it would fit a key; the depression was octagonal in shape..she hurriedly sent to the circle on the other side. Spherical. Then, just for the sake of it, she tried out the signet. It fitted all the locks but opened none of them.

So I was somewhat correct. Each lock is opened by a specifically shaped jewel, and I've a feeling only the right jewel would fit onto the right ring. Sooo...ten jewels and nine rings, then.

Just for fun she tried pushing the door open; the feeling of sadness came over her, and she swatted it away. The door, of course, remained unopened.

"Well, there's that. I think this much should be enough for the report. Time to head on back."

And so, with her new trophy in grasp, the girl followed the previous duo's footsteps, eventually finding the surface and rushing back to the city once more.

She was really late for lunch.

Okay so first of all I needed to see what exactly this new pet would eat. So I decided to take a slime quest so I could blame any damage on the slimes that I'd doubtlessly execute along the way. So I began sedately walking through the city so as to take in as much of the surroundings as I could the little thing propped up on my shoulder I didn't actually even know if it could survive that fall and well I didn't want to find out but it was to small to let it wander all across the floor willy nilly so floor it was.

Assertion: Slime trail detected extremely fresh leads to the rooftop
Conclusion: Likely wooden slime that has decided to nest on this rooftop here for a little bit of time I'll deal with that as fast as I can before moving on from here. Also may as well see it's reaction to the slimes acid since it seems to have some acidic properties of it's own from where it's lick melted a little of my skin. It also seems to be excessively hungry as after it licked me it tried to bite me but luckily I removed that threat for now. Anyway this thing was a pest and an annoyance but a great alleviator of stress as all cute things are compared to before I was in a better place.

On the rooftop I set the thing down and a little gobbet fired from the lump on it's back as the gobbet hit the slime it seemingly sunk into the slime and had a reaction with it melting away the outer layer slightly before it either neutralised itself or something else happened to stop it well that was a surprise though not an unwelcome one. I moved in close and grabbed the core out with my hand. Then I set the thing which I needed to name down beside the slime. It immediately dived in and begin eating the slime as if it's life depended on it.
Assertion: The creature has some resistance to corrosive attacks and has a small but extremely corrosive attack of it's own even at this young age.
Conclusion: Training will be required to manage it properly but it's not yet of sufficient size for this to be problematic. After all it was neutralised that fast by even the slime's acidic body.

After it had finished with it's meal I'd returned it to my shoulder somehow even with it's tiny body it had still been able to devour the entire slime though it seemed as if that was enough for the thing. Whilst I was walking along I was mostly focused on what exactly to name the creature after all it seemed to have an affinity to acid but it's attacked looked more like gobbets of burning lava rather than balls of acid that were flying through the air. I think I'll play the misleading card and call it a pyrovore of course it'd be named in low gothic rather than high gothic as who was time to do a name in that these days. In this tongue it'd translate into something such as fire eater I believe but no one needed to know that.

I'd rapidly exterminated nine more slimes after about an hour of walking through the city it seems that they had increased in amount again. What an annoyance these things could be and yet they seemed to move around so slowly when one actually met with them. Yet they some how made their way to every corner of the city when they weren't being watched. I'd also taken the liberty to use the back pack as a pouch to hold the dead remains of the slimes for my new little pet.
Assertion: The pyrovore has yet to be corrupted by the powers of the daemon that resides in my mind.
Conclusion: It has some natural defence against it likely from my own universe.
Attached is a description of where each slime was found
-2 on rooftops near the centre of the city (Wooden slimes)
-1 at the bottom of a barrel (Wooden slime)
-3 slimes in a small scale battle in the middle of a deserted alleyway(Alkaline slime)
-1 trying to escape from a sewer deposit point (sewer slime)
-1 slime entering the city from the southern gate (regular)
-1 slime entering the city by climbing the walls (stone slime)
-1 slime in a well(Water slime)
Named my new found pet as a pyrovore I doubt anyone will ever find any more of the things.
The thing is able to eat slimes relatively well it almost seems like their natural predator.

But the sole thought of exploring this unknown world gave him a thrilling feeling as if He finally found what is that he ought to do in his life.

"Here's my report. Doing such missions can be a good change of pace actually. It helps you understand yourself a little bit more..."

He already prepared his report in advance so after giving the sheets to the receptionist the young man started quietly waiting for the evaluation.

After washing himself near the well and returning the rag Drevart decided that it’s time to work for a bit. Since he can’t do any hard labor right now or venture into the wilderness, he decided to take the preparation for the slime horde quest again. But this time he will concentrate on the tasks in town.

And now he was standing in front of the captain Harrison’s building… and he still had no upper part of the clothing. After sighing and entering the office he noticed that captain Harrison was doing some paperwork. Drevart coughed twice, attracting the attention of the Captain.

“Excuse me… I’ve taken the slime horde preparation quest again… Hope I can be of some help. And if possible, I’d like to be assigned some work in the town.”

Captain looked at the young man standing before him and found him a bit familiar so he asked.

Cap: “And who might you be?”

“Sir I was already helping with designing the defenses for the slime horde once.”

Harrison nodded in acknowledgment. Indeed he did remember a young one who made a couple of good suggestions and even performed specialized research to help them deal with river slimes.

Captain inadvertently noticed a strange wound near the ribs.

Cap: “So you are not human, huh? And I was already glad that among those greenhorns among the common populace a good seeding appeared. Well, it doesn’t matter if you are of the other race. So because of your injuries you want to take up the work in the town sector?”

Drevart heavily nodded.

“Yes, I’d like to. I can check up on walls and provide help with preparing the baits and arrows.”

Captain grinned.

Cap: “I see, so you are not afraid of manual labor. That’s good. I’ll assign you a section of a wall. You’ll have to check it from top to bottom and if you notice any cracks large enough to let the slimes slip through. You will be provided with ropes but the rest is up to you. After that, you can go to the storage room. They will give you further instructions.”

Drevart nodded and excused himself to go to the designated wall sector. He was indeed hoping that his bad luck will play out again and he will find some goons to rob… but his luck was so bad that he found no one and had a very peaceful road to the wall despite taking the dark road through narrow streets where it can be easy to ambush somebody.

“Indeed what awful luck…”

He mumbled after arriving at the city walls. Their interior was busy as a beehive. Someone was crafting arrows, someone was rolling containers with oil… the inside of the walls were very lively.

“Umm, excuse me, where can I find local steward? I was sent by captain Harrison from the adventurer’s Guild.”

The worker Drevart asked turned around and looking a little suspicious asked.

Worker: “And adventurer you say? It seems that the rumors are true and you are quite underpaid if you can’t get even proper clothing.”

Drevart winced a little. This worker obviously had quite a sharp tongue.

“It’s none of your business how much I’m paid. I have my own reasons to be an adventurer and none of those concern you.”

He doesn't like it when anybody questions his decisions about his life… and he just didn’t like this particular worker in general. He even had a thought of silently following this worker afterward and twisting his neck a little bit…

Worker: “Better find some safe work inside the city and get a good wife…. Anyway, what were you asking, midget? Ah, the steward. He is upstairs.”

Drevart stopped paying attention to this nagger and went upstairs. There he found a man who looked to be in his forties, a short stubble gave him a certain air of viciousness despite him being a bit skinny. His face angular and had a constant raging expression.

Steward: “You lazy peacocks! What the heck are you doing?! Bring that thing downstairs!!! And you! Yes, you, little piece of a goblin!!! Even goblins are better workers!!!! Don’t think I didn’t notice how you kept a couple of those vials to yourself!!!! That is acid and not some miracle medicine to cure your lower half!”

He was angrily shouting at the workers. After feeling that somebody was looking at him he turned around and shouted at Drevart.

Steward: “And you! What are you gawking there at?!!! Do you want me to pluck your eyes out and shove them up in the places well known to anybody?!”

Drevart was a bit put off by such a “welcoming ceremony”. After calming himself for a fraction of a second he answered.

“I’m an adventurer, sent here by captain Harrison. He said to check up this part of the wall.”

Steward: “Ah, one of those ragtag fellas. Well, I doubt you will be able to be useful even for a second down there but you can try. We will secure the rope on this side and you will be going down the wall to look for any cracks. When you find some just mark them on this spreadsheet and the masons will go fix it later.”

The procedure was easy to understand and Drevart wandered how could anyone mess it up. Well, later he did find out about it. When hanging so high in the air with just a flimsy rope as your support it was a pretty nerve-wracking experience even for him, considering he had to scale castle walls to do covert operations during the war… but they had better equipment.

“Damn it… don’t you dare to tear off…”

He mumbled under his breath at the rope. He really hoped that he would survive this mission. He still had so many things to do…

“Well gotta finish this quick then…”

He said and soon enough found the first crack big enough to let slimes through. After marking the place on the spreadsheet of the wall Drevart continued his decent.

…………………………………………………………………

After a few hours of nerve-wracking scaling up and down of a 20-meter-ish wall Drevart was mentally exhausted. Even his body started to have a bit of a hazy contour. After having to go through this ride once he never wanted to do it again. He had a faint feeling that the rope could break soon a couple of times. And one time it actually almost broke apart. Thankfully the guys up on the wall managed to pull him up in time.

Steward: “Well, surprisingly you were quite useful, midget. Now you can go downstairs and help with the preparation of the bait or ammunition. Decide for yourself…”

After dismissively waving his hand at Drevart steward turned away and started shouting at the masons and giving them instructions.

Walking downstairs Drevart was again welcomed by the hustle of the ant nest. At least only such comparison was suitable for what was going inside the city walls. After getting his mortar and pestle as well as some herbs from the warehouse. After looking at them he quickly noticed the Fishmud grass and Three-tailed-Sick grass. They were easy to spot, after all, he was the one who proposed using them. But there were also some new types of grass he never saw before. After giving a surprised glance at the storage keeper he asked.

“Uhm… sir, what're these new plants for?”

Storage-man: “Ah, those ones? You can go ask some alchemists. They proposed using them together with the Fishmud grass and Three-tailed-sick grass but I don’t know the recipe. So, shoo-shoo… don’t hold the queue.”

After being chased away he went to find the alchemist and after asking a few questions Drevart started creating the concoction, an improved bait. Supposedly it should attract slimes much better than just using bare Fishmud grass or Three-tailed-sick grass.

………………………………………………………….

After finishing with the herbs Drevart spent some time while preparing arrows to be flamed by wrapping some cloth as well as dried grass near the arrowheads. Later these arrows can be quickly dipped into oil and flamed by a simple torch. He also saw some people trying to create more potent acid but he didn’t know what were the ingredients and, to be honest, he never really dabbled into alchemy even in his world but it did always intrigue him.

/Hm…. Maybe I shall do some research into the alchemy of this world…/

He wondered with a faint smile after giving every prepared arrow and concoction to the storage keeper and walking away from the city walls towards the Adventurer’s Guild Receptionist office.

Quest Report - Okarin

It was an ordinary day when a voice called out to Okarin in the streets of Scribel.

"Hey! You! Stop right there! I was looking for you!"

The slime person turned around, and unexpectedly, it was a familiar face.

Sica the Leprechaun.

"You ditched me!" She flat out accused. "As soon as we got back to the city, you ditched me and disappeared! You were supposed to be my tour guide!"

Okarin backpedaled a few feet.

Ahh... right.

A few weeks ago, when Okarin had returned from the Halfwing Federation, they had been unwilling to step inside Scribel City. Okarin had given a lackluster excuse, dumped the task on someone else, and disappeared into the surrounding forest. Of course, the circumstances had changed since then — Vicious had come back — and Okarin overcame their anxieties about the city through the power of love determination. The present Okarin no longer squrimed when adventurer splat'd another innocent little slime in the city streets.

Was it apathy? Desensitization?

Did Okarin no longer care when slimes were beaten to death in front of their eyes?

Perhaps it was numbness.

Pure numbness.

Getting abandoned by Vicious had done quite an amount on Okarin's mental state.

For the better or worse, Okarin was apathetic walking through the streets of Scribel, the murderous city where hundreds of slimes died every day.

Numb to it.

Mhm. Ah, right. It was a Tuesday.

On Tuesdays, there was a sale at marketplace.

Can't forget about the discount sale, right?

Buy one get one free?

"I've finally decided." The leprechaun had a frown on her face. "Take me to your king! I need to speak with him!"

"But we don't have a king?"

"Then take me to your almighty ruler of grassy-stuff, slime rocks, and shoddy counterfeit products in this middle-of-nowhere place!"

"Are you talking about the Guild Master? Or perhaps the City Council?"

"It doesn't matter! I must speak to someone important! They must be very important person, you hear me?!"

"Didn't Adsall show you around the City Hall when he gave you your tour?"

"Dunno. All I remember is that he took me out of the city to see pretty stuff and pirates. Arrggg, matey! It was kinda awesome. Oh, and he flirted with me all day. Is that allowed? Technically, I'm a diplomat. I'm an important person, y'know? If you flirt with me, you might drag five whole kingdoms into war!"

"Did you have fun?"

"Yup! I'd like to do it again too! Especially if he pays for dinner!"

"I think that guy might be dead though."

"Wait, what?!"

"Anyway, should I show you to the Guild?"

"Wait! Wait! But that guy~?! What happened to that guy?!"

+ + +

"...And this is the receptionist's desk~" Okarin's unenthusiastic voice droned on.

"*sniff sniff*"

"This is where all those evil bad murderer adventurers dump all their slime cores."

"Oh, and here's the bin for all the goblin ears. Smells kind of bad, right? Makes you wonder when they last cleaned it."

"...This is where Konoha sits... By the way, you should never make her angry..."

"But what about the Guild Master? I need to see your leader so we can discuss something very important!"

Okarin paused for a moment,

They turned around slowly to face the Leprechaun.

"I can't take you to the Guild Master," Okarin spoke flatly.

The girl's eyes widened.

"But I thought you said —"

"It's impossible to find the Guild Master. The Guild Master finds you."

"Then how do I —"

Okarin pulled out a sheet of paper from one of the receptionist desks with a flourish. They immediately slammed the blank sheet onto an empty table with a slight 'Bam!'

Sica, the Leprechaun, jumped slightly at the sudden noise.

"Fill out a form," Okarin spoke dully.

The Slime person seemed impatient. Was there somewhere else that Okarin wanted to be?

"—?!?!!!!!"

"Just write it down. The Guild Master reads everything. He'll respond to you... eventually."

Okarin shoved a quill in the exasperated Leprechaun's hands.

"Have a nice day. I need to go now. There's a certain bird I need to catch."

"Um? Um? Excuse me???"

The girl sighed and then sat down at an empty writing desk.

The leprechaun was beginning to feel a headache come on...

However, her eyes narrowed. It was time to get serious.

Play time was over.

Dear Mister Guild Master -

My name is Sica and I am a representative of the Halfwing Federation.

I humbly request a meeting with Your Excellency.

As you may know, the Halfwing Federation was invaded by the Holy Human Empire earlier this year.

They have occupied most of our towns and villages with one of their armies. If nothing is done, they will annex the entire foothills as part of their empire. Once they have passed the Black Mountains, they will threaten your city as well as all other the kingdoms East of the mountains. The hunger of the Holy Human Empire knows no limit, and they will burn your farms and your villages to the ground.

They will come for you next.

Stand with us now.

Help us fight the Holy Human Empire. We can block them at the Black Mountains. The Passes through the Black Mountains can only be accessed by large armies in the Summer. It is impassible in the Winter, Spring, and Fall. If you help us eliminate the army that is currently occupying our villages, there will be no reinforcements until next Summer.

Together, our forces can block the Holy Human Empire at the narrow mountain passes.

Alone, we are crushed.

Once the Holy Human Empire passes the mountains, their armies, cavalry, siege engines, and archmages are unstoppable in the open fields. You do not stand a chance in conventional warfare. You have not seen the rain of meteor showers summoned by the Imperial Mages, or the Blight that poisons cities and causes the air itself to become unbreathable for miles around.

The Emperor of Destruction is not an ordinary enemy. You underestimate them at your greatest peril.

Let us meet. We need to talk.

And please, for all of our sakes, think carefully about this.

I pray that you do not make the wrong choice.

Sincerely,

Sica Lalufloute
Diplomat, Halfwing Federation

Summary:
  • Okarin encountered Sica, the leprechaun from the Halfwing Federation
  • Okarin showed Sica to the Guild Reception Desk

Alias wasn't going anywhere. So he decided to take this quest as part

A guild receptionist had been sent to fetch him from the tavern, interrupting his drink and conversation.

He let out a big *sighhhh*.

He had a deal with a devil, and the devil was to be paid.

He mumbled to himself, "That wasn't really worth it, was it?"

Picking up a nearby quill, which was pretty worn out from all of the writing, and began to start filling and filing some paperwork.

He had a lot left to do, but he was going at an impressive pace. Finishing 50 reports per hour. It would've been faster, but he decided not to skim the reports, but to remember, record, and compare each report. His arms couldn't keep up with the speed of his brain as well. He also had to file some paperwork and other things to file as well.

Alias was at it for hours, for a total of 12 hours. Eventually he had enough. Doing 600 reports had to be enough for a days work. He was new, couldn't they cut him some slack?

He opened the door, told the Head Receptionist that he was leaving, and submitted in his Quest Report.

Glad to see another person doing paper work. Being forced to do 600 reports sounds like abuse Anyways here's your promised rewards.

After a morning of hunting for slimes and herb, I once again brought the materials to the Alchemist Guild, It would have been a month since I had done the quest, the promotional exam have weathered my pride but not be desire to learn.

Surely there was a way to pry the coverted knowledge from the vice like mouths of the alchemists. I had not decided what I would do should these alchemists again evade my attempt to learn, What would I do if they once again offer only pages of text will no instruction... Still I did deliver the materials as "payment" for what? It was as obscure as ever.

I was given a list and money, and again I was tasked to be the runner of the potion makers. This time it was a potion of madness, enough to make five pints.

  • 3 heaps of Jade Rosemary
  • 4 tablespoons of Summer Cassia
  • 2 dashes of Monk's Mallow
  • 1 teaspoon of Golden Clary
  • 2 sprinkles of Moon Creeper

As I approached the very first herbalist, an idea stuck me, and I did something audacious, something bold, something I might not have done before my promotion, I cheated... in away or I tried to.

I negotiated with the herbalist and apothecaries, instead of acquiring five sets of potion material, I acquired six. If they would not teach me, I would teach myself, was what I thought.

When I took the ingredients back to the guild, I watched, alchemist brew. he beat the Jade Rosemary with a pestle and mortar for a long while, then he added little bit of water to turn it into a lumpy paste, the Summer Cassia was added in small amounts at a time. He then filled a pan with unholy water, add the paste and boiled the mixture in a cauldron over the fire. Once it boiled he added the Monk's Mallow and Golden Clary. When a purple smoked started plum he turned down the heat, mixing in the Moon Creeper. Once the potion cooled he decanted the liquid in to potion bottles

I watched an noted every action and timing in my head. After watching the alchemist brew a few more times, I found and empty brewing station and tried to do the same. The alchemist realized what I was about to do, but ignored me, as if my act of minor corruption was inconsequential, or that my attempt to learn had little chance of success.

As he brewed his potion of madness, so did I. When we were both finished he had a few bottles, and so did I.

He came closer and looked at creations... contemplating. Again with that stern voice. " Here is only one real way to test a potion, to see if it works."

The implication was immediate, I had to taste it. I dipped my finger into the liquid and delicately licked the tip of my potion-ed finger.

Nothing. Did I not drink enough?

"More" the alchemist prodded with his word.

Taking a deep breath I downed a potion and shut my eyes waiting for the madness.

And nothing. the potion failed.

The alchemist shook his head and laughed, " Go. go finished reading the book"

When the Alchemist Guild's brewing station was closing for the night I found a note detailing that I had preformed my duty adn did a satisfactory job.

I did but still I have now learned the tools and terms of brewing, for the life of me I don't know why my potion failed....

I wonder if I ever will.

  • Hunted slime and found herbs took them to the Alchemy guild
  • got more ingredients than ordered
  • tried to brew a potion on his own
  • Failed making own potion
  • Read and learned alchemy on his own again.
  • Learned that he had done his duty

Random Egg (it might hatch!)
I think it’s time we both ranked up since we’re ready to take the next, that’s what I hope atleast. Reading the job description, what bothers me is that we aren’t allowed to have weapons with us, only a knife. What good is my armor if I don’t have my weapon? Maybe it would defend from attacks but I won’t be able to do much with a knife. I guess I have no choice but to leave our equipment, since I feel it would just slow us down if we brought it along.

We head over to the guild to take the exam, the receptionist just gave us two knives and smiled us off. That smile isn’t really comforting you know….. Feels like we need to kill a bear with only a knife.

I did a bit of research on Gem’s Ravine and it looks like It’ll take us almost a week to get there. I better prepare before heading out.

I managed to save up rations worth of two weeks at most, but I couldn’t really get a tent for camping. I don’t have a large bag to carry large amount of stuff. Food and water will have to make do; we’ll have to scour the area for shelter for every camp. As much as I want to make this as easy as possible, we just don’t have funds and equipment to make it happen, we’ll just have to make do.

Iris and I start our journey to Gem’s Ravine.

+++++

The first day hike through the forest was calm, we occasionally encountered some goblins; nothing we couldn’t handle before. We relatively reached the ravine and didn’t even notice we were already at it. The location has mix balance of forest and steep cliffs, enclosing the greenery from the sides; a single stream flows in between, giving luscious life bordering it.

Following the river, we could see a large mountain that slightly curves to the side; that must me Bighorn Mountain. It’s still quite a distance away, probably a day away still. Night was approaching and it was time camp for; looking for shelter was troublesome since I couldn’t find any caves. We did settle for an overarching cliff over us as roof, this will have to do.

Sitting near the campfire, we our tough jerky while hearing multiple howls. I would think they were direwolves, if what the library says is true then it’s something we haven’t faced before. The night was cold as the chill of the wind made it worse.

++++++

Second day approaches and we had decent sleep with the watch rotations. We press on towards the mountain by following the stream. Our walk was relatively peaceful, with the occasional rustling noise of nearby animals. I once saw a fox that had streams of blue hue on its fur, it had slim eyes that seem to glare at anything; it noticed me and swiftly went into the stream. I managed to follow it with my eyes, but as soon as it entered the water it completely disappeared, like it blended with it so perfectly. Oh well, it would’ve a nice catch; if I even manage to catch it that is. Looking at the mountain, I can definitely tell we made progress for half a day since I can already see the foot of the mountain; we go forward to our destination.

++++++

Finally arriving at the foot of the mountain, it was steep; really steep. Not sure how we’ll be able to climb it from here with that kind of terrain. We’ll have to search for a different route. Looking around, there wasn’t much of path we could until I found a somewhat steady, rocky path. Second night is quickly approaching, it’s time to call if a night again and camp out near the water.

Even though there was campfire, the cold night was still merciless. Rations seem to be depleting, food is only gonna last us one more day out here. The wolves howl once again, only this time louder.

++++++

Dawn of the new day, it’s time to climb the mountain. We started to climb using the rocky path that I found. We slowly inched further as we got higher, sometimes almost sliding off.

Iris got tired from climbing so I had to carry her on my back to make good progress. As we got higher, the air got colder and wind got stronger. The chill would slowly burrow underneath my skin, but it’s nothing compared to Iris’ freezing air.

We camped out two nights and slowly progressed through, until we almost reached the peak. We had found a dark cave close to the summit of the mountain, and in it was a giant nest with myriad of eggs; varying in sizes and colors.

“*Sigh* I’m beat. Let’s go rest for a bit.”

I drop Iris off my back and sat on the floor with my back against the wall. Iris trails off to the eggs and stares at each one of them, might as well let her pick.

“Iris, go ahead and pick an egg.”

Iris nods at me and goes back to staring at the eggs.

A good amount of time and Iris finally decides on an egg. She runs towards me and points at the egg she likes.

“Iris like big blue egg.”

Looking at the direction she’s pointing, I walk towards it. Well…. What can I say about it? It’s huge for an egg, almost as big as me; definitely way wider though. It had a tint of blue hue with white spots all around it. How am I supposed to carry this? I can probably carry it like I’m hugging it with my arms almost wrapping around. Well this is what we likes so I guess I’ll just go with it.

As soon as I was about to pick up the egg, I heard a loud flapping sound. Looking behind I saw a giant black wall fill my view, I instinctively looked up and my eyes met with its. It was a bird. A giant fucking bird, this thing has got to be atleast twice as big as me. It stares at me and suddenly pecks down; I quickly dodged out of the way. Looking back at where I was before, it pecked a huge hole on the ground. Can’t imagine if I was hit with that.

From the back, Iris was casting ice magic on it; darting ice shards on its feathery body, however they barely penetrated it. Noticing this bird turned its attention towards her and started rushing. Shit! This is bad! I don’t think Iris can dodge that peck it just. Quickly thinking, I grabbed a large amount of eggs and threw them at him. As those eggs hit him with a loud crack, the bird stops dead on its feet then slowly turns it towards me. I can feel its icy glare when it realizes that I broke its eggs.

Shit….. I probably shouldn’t have done that.

“Piiiiiiiiii!!!!!!”

I tightly closed my ears with my arms from that loud screech as I crouched from the pain; followed by the sudden shaking of the ground. I looked up and saw the bird charging at me with its beak wide open. I slightly moved out of its way but was hit by one of its talons.

“Argggghhhh!!!!”

The talons made deep cuts on my chest. My shirt is slowly getting soaked by my own blood, as I struggle to breathe.

“Iris… *gasp* get the egg and go back… *gasp*”

“No… Iris won’t leave Reival!”

“Iris! Do as I say!”

I can tears falling from her face as she shakes her head in denial. Sorry…. But if I want to make sure she stays safe, I need to get rid of the bird. I doubt my knife will do any good, I guess there’s only one choice to do. I grabbed a small egg and made a dash towards the cave opening; the bird noticed this is chased after me. As soon as I made it to the opening, I took a large leap out into the sky and fell towards the ground. The bird behind me took flight and managed to nab me with its claws as I fell. I felt immense pain as the talons dug deep into my leg. Looking back I could see Iris reaching out to me while shouting something, our distance grew farther as the bird carried me farther and farther.

+++++

In the middle of the forest, near a stream; there was a woman carrying a huge blue egg under the full moonlight. If one could her face, then all they could describe was that she wore a listless expression; however no such person would say so as she was alone. Her eyes had a tint of red and her body is trembling from exhaustion. She finally arrived at a camp that was once used and gently placed giant egg against a wall.

In this situation, one would light a fire to ward away potential threats from other beasts, but she did not do so for she does not know how. Her stomach would grumble from hunger, but she did not eat for she has none. The cold was merciless that night, as the hunger only induced it more.

The woman stayed in the same used camp, never leaving it as if waiting for someone whilst hugging her knees close to her chest. Days and nights passed by as she kept uttering a name…..

“Reival……”

+++++

On the fourth night a loud howl could be heard. From the shadows slowly came out dark wolves that had a crescent shaped moon shine on their foreheads. Realizing the danger she was in, she stood up ready to fight; however she was weak for she has not eaten in days. But that was fine, for her body remembers the days of hunger and has survived until now. She would fight and wait until that person comes. The wolves bared their fangs against her, ready to strike at a moment’s notice.

In unison they all pounced at her at the same time, but the woman was ready for she erected a large translucent crystal around her. The wolves crashed into but were not injured; some kept slamming into while other repeatedly scratched the crystal to get to her. Slowly the crystal was breaking as cracks started forming, their assault was relentless and soon a large hole was made from the cracks. The woman did not miss this and erected a large blue spike towards the hole, impaling one the wolves, another made a hole and she did the same, however this time the other wolves were prepared and moved out of the way. This battle continued with repeated holes forming along with repeated blue spikes forming.

It was a battle of endurance and soon the woman would soon be tired, for her fatigue is catching up to her. When the woman could no longer cast spells, she fell on her knees too weak to move a single muscle. The wolves took this chance to slowly move in on her. Her demise is all but near. She stared at them head on without fear; no, she did not stare at them but further pass them. She saw a battered man slowly walking out of the shadow of the trees. She only on uttered a single name…..

“Reival…..”

+++++

Goddamn bird dropped me deep into the forest. I suffered multiple major injuries but luckily no broken bones. Looking up into the sky, I could see the giant bird flying away; probably thinks I’m dead. Can’t blame It though, if I wasn’t sturdy then I might as well be dead. My whole body is in pain and I had to stop the bleeding from my leg and chest. I made bandages out of my long brown pants and bloodied shirt, sigh…. I’m gonna have to buy clothes again.

Having the bleeding stopped, I slowly walked forward towards the direction of Bighorn Mountain.

Days and nights passed as I continuously walked in the forest; my rations ran out days ago and I’m walking out of sheer will. I need to find food and water first, but I can’t; something is driving me to go back instead.

Night enveloped the sky while the full moon illuminated the way. I can barely feel anything anymore; even when drinking the water from the stream, I don’t feel the wetness of it. Still, I press on.

While mindlessly walking, I heard a loud howl nearby. I heard towards the howl and soon after I could hear something breaking. When I got to the source I saw a woman being attacked by four wolves, it was Iris. Suddenly life came back to me and I picked up a large rock. I threw said rock towards a wolf; it didn’t notice and was immediately crushed by it. The other wolves took notice of it and diverted their attention towards me. All try to surround and lunge at me, all at the same time. I block one of the bites with my arm, the bite pierce through my skin but I didn’t care. I grabbed the biting wolf by the neck and started hitting the rest of the wolves with its body. They backed off while being wary of me, I only stared at the whimpering wolf at my hand.

I firmly grasp its neck and slowly twisted it, it would whimper louder and louder as it struggles until finally I heard a loud snap. Wolf on my hand stopped moving and was listless. I move my attention to the other wolves as I glared.

With every step I take towards them, they would take a step. Getting annoyed by their lack of will, I threw the dead wolf at them; to which they dodged. I screamed at the top of my lungs that reverberated in the air. Their ears and tails fell down and scampered away.

With them gone I head towards Iris, I didn’t even notice it but it seems she removed the crystal wall. As I walking to her, she ran towards me; before I could even reach her I fell down on the floor then everything was black.

+++++

I woke up the next day with Iris lying beside me while firmly clinging to my arm, as I got up I woke Iris up as well.

“Reival is safe. Iris is so happy.”

“Hey… sorry I was gone for long.”

She doesn’t say anything but instead just clings onto my arm even more. Man… the sensation of her chest must be divine….. that is if I could feel anything at all. Yep… I can’t feel anything. I must’ve passed the limits of my body and went numb from the immense amount of pain I had to go through. The bite on my hand is still there but it stopped bleeding, it probably wasn’t that deep. That reminds me, I haven’t eaten in days.

“Iris do you have any food?”

“Iris did not eat for a long time. Iris waited for Reival.”

Ahhh… that’s right. She doesn’t know how to cook nor hunt for food. I should probably teach her soon, even if my cooking is sorta shabby. I stand up and was met with immense nausea; I staggered as I got a massive headache. I endure it and go to one of the wolf corpse.

“Iris go get some wood nearby.”

She scampers of into the trees while I skinned the blue wolf. Iris came back carrying large dried twigs when I just finished skinning the wolf. I prepared the fire while sliced up the meat into smaller chunks. Cooked wolf taste like bland meat, but somehow it’s satisfying. Maybe it’s because it was our first meal in days. We both rested again for one day and went back towards Scribel on the next along with the egg.

This exam took way longer that I expected, maybe over two weeks when we arrived at Scribel. I was still feeling severely tired and asked Iris file the report for me and buy ourselves a weak health potion. I wondered if our journey together would be this hectic from now one.

I headed back to my room in tavern whilst waiting for Iris.

Iris greet Guild

Reival and Iris finish exam job. Iris offer big blue egg as proof. Reival got hurt by big bird and wolves but Reival fine now. Reival and Iris will rest for few days before doing jobs again.

+++++

“Reival……”

+++++

“Reival…..”

+++++

+++++

Investigate Blood Lilypads
Sponsor:
Briele (Adventurer's Guild Library)
Location: Scribel Region
Required Level: 1
Reward: 50 EXP
Objectives:
  • Read this quest report
  • Search for the Blood Lilypad herb and collect a sample.
Drevart walked into the receptionist hall of the Guild. He looked a bit pale and had a faint, lingering smell from swamp water... again. His upper body had a couple of decently sized bites, faintly glowing with the light shades of gray.

"Good evening. I've come to deliver some samples of the Blood Lilypad Mrs. Briele asked for. To be honest I'd like to keep a couple of samples to myself since they can be used as a poison. Will 5 or 7 be enough for her research?"

He asked while taking out some lilypads with beautiful blood-red patterns running through the leaves. As if the real veins.

After reporting the results of his help with the city defenses preparations, Drevart decided to immediately undertake another quest after just a short break in the tavern. He moved out at night, stealthily moving across the fields. Only his shadow remaining in the places he ran past. These fields were almost harmless but he couldn’t afford to be reckless, so after moving a mile away from the city the young man significantly slowed down. This area can be infested by different monsters, maybe not the likes of wolves or bears, but giant rats or a solitary slime or heck even something like a carnivorous mole can always kill him if he would be careless… especially with his luck. And indeed, after some time travelling he managed to notice something unusual ahead. There was a tiny silvery string sparkling under the moonlight and if he were moving with his previous speed Drevart would immediately fall right into it. After closer inspection, he found out that there were quite a few more of those threads. It was a cobweb. A giant one at that…. But seeing the denseness and the thickness of the strings the spiders themselves shouldn’t be that large. But their amount would need to be enormous to create such a large trap.

After moving around the huge web-filled hole in the ground he went deeper to the south. He took out the pamphlet he was given in the guild and started carefully looking at the drawing. In the dim, morning twilight one could make out a silhouette of the lilypad. It had a well-defined, easily recognizable pattern on the leaf, like blood vessels crawling across the skin. In the dim morning light, when the first rays of light just started appearing in the world around him, they appeared to be black but Drevart knew all too well that they were, in fact, blood-red, like freshly-drawn blood.

/The report, first mentioning of the Blood Lilypads was in the quest reports about gathering healing herbs. So it should be near the Scribel city. Sadly the adventurer who posted the report didn’t specify where I should find it. Back at home lilypads were mostly growing in the lakes or in the rivers near them. But here I will have to move around a bit since no specific information was provided. First of all, maybe I shall try getting close to that lake in the marshlands but if that failed then I’ll just try looking around the river near the swamps./

After moving for a while and without any unnecessary adventures Drevart finally saw the river which was located in the south of Scribel City. And just beyond the river, there were marshlands he was looking for. The trees in the morning fog looked a little bit eerie but… it did bring up old memories. Drevart stopped for a second, watching as the morning fog was rolling under the rays of the sun. It reminded him of his homeland. There was constant mist there due to the high concentration of Aether. But that mist was different it wasn’t the water vapor rising from the ground but a mist of highly concentrated energy. It was hallucinogenic for normal people but harmless to the phantoms.

/Well I shall get going. The quest won’t complete itself…/

……………………………………………….

Even though Drevart tried his best to move through the marshland stealthily he still managed to attract unwanted attention. Right now he was running away… again. And the thing chasing him was… a swarm of giant dragonflies. He always thought that they were called giant because they were truly gigantic but it seems he was wrong again. They were not as gigantic as he thought them to be. Just a little over the size of normal giant rats. And it seems their bites have some acidic properties since after getting bitten a couple of times Drevart’s wound started to sting a little bit more than usual and the regeneration ability of his body seemed to be impeded.

“Haa... So what I shall do now?... Haa… haaa…”

Drevart was almost out of breath. He was sprinting for about half an hour already and his weakened body can’t handle such strain. He gritted his teeth and decided to take a bath in the swamp again. Diving straight into the river he just hoped that there wouldn’t be any carnivorous creatures down in the water. To improve his disguise and mask the smell Drevart decided to use mud from the bottom of the river to cover some parts of his body. So, after moving away from the spot he dived at he climbed out of the water and started covering some parts of his body in mud and mumbling quietly something along the lines of.

“Who thought there would be such disgustingly annoying creatures in here? They should be more compassionate to people crossing the swamp and maybe, just maybe there won’t be a person in the future who will come here later to take revenge on those buggers…”

Drevart was really annoyed by the chase. The bites of the dragonflies were not that big only because he managed to run away in time. He believed that had he stayed there for half a minute more he would be dead already. But he really wanted to check those dragonflies up close. Their body was beautiful. Light-emerald hue on their chitin… rainbow patterns on the wings… He just couldn’t help himself and wanted to dissect some of them.

/So hereby I make a vow to myself, I shalt return here and dissect every single one of you!/

…………………………………………..

After getting the taste of the creatures inhabiting the marshlands he decided to take a route around it and don’t go in the depths of this region. There was almost no information about this territory in the guild and if such creatures were already roaming the outskirts then what was in the depths of these lands…

Drevart shuddered at the thought and decided against heading deeper into the marshland. It may look almost peaceful on the outside but he did notice some tracks left behind by quite large monsters.

.........................................................

After walking for a while he noticed an outpost in the distance. It seemed like the cooperation of adventurer’s guild and Scribel city government decided to put this outpost here to ward off any dangers coming from the marshlands or send a distress signal if things were going south.

Adventurer A: “Hey, halt there! This is a dangerous area and it’s off-limits to the citizens of the city of Scribel!”

Drevart watched as a couple of adventurers scaled down the walls and stopped him.

“Oh, I’m an adventurer from the adventurer’s guild. And I accidentally found my way here.”

Adventurer B: “Ah, so you’re our comrade then. Welcome to adventurer’s guild marshland outpost. Don’t take it to heart but why such a weak person like you went all the way to the marshlands? Shouldn’t you be doing some low-level missions to get experience and become stronger first?”

Drevart smiled wryly and shook his head.

“I’m indeed too weak to roam the marshlands so I didn’t venture deep. After getting almost eaten by some giant acid-spewing dragonflies I quickly decided to roam on the outskirts of the marshlands. I am looking for this grass. Maybe you can help me?”

Drevart showed them the drawing of the Blod Lilypad and the adventurers quickly nodded.

Adventurer A: “Yeah. This thing is pretty common in the marshlands but it would be perilous for you to go there. You can try to find some of them upstream near the waterfall. We saw that sometimes a random lilypad would go down the river and wall in the lake in the middle of marshlands.”

Drevart nodded and bowed a little with heartfelt gratitude. He didn’t want to risk his life going deeper into the marshlands to get this grass.

Adventurer B: “By the way, you mentioned a swarm of giant dragonflies. How big were they?”

Drevart furrowed his brow trying to remember and answered.

“Somewhere around 20 to 30 cm”

The adventurer who asked the question sighed in relief.

Adventurer B: “That’s good. You’ve met the younglings of the true giant dragonflies. They use acid to help themselves devour their prey. You were quite lucky to get away from them. But we will have to exterminate the swarm before they grow too large.”

Drevart shuddered at the thought of even bigger dragonflies. He didn’t want to meet them any time before he returns his Large Mirage ability. After that maybe, if he has a decent weapon and the swarm isn’t too large he can kill them. But for now, it would be better to leave the younglings to the professionals.

“Thank you for the suggestion to look near the waterfall. I guess I’ll be going then and good luck with hunting.”

Adventurers A and B: “Yeah, you too!”

After that, he moved around the outpost and went to the place where the blood lilypads were supposed to be.

………………………………………..

There were almost no monsters on the way to the lake because of the close proximity to the outpost. After gathering 10 lilypads with beautiful blood-red patterns on them Drevart started walking away afterward. But suddenly he felt a threat moving towards him at high speeds. Making a quick roll to the side he noticed how something pinkish and bouncy hit a tree and after that, there was a faint burning smell coming from it. After turning around he noticed a certain mud mound moving and pulling back the pinkish blur which turned out to be its tongue. Faint arcs periodically appeared on the mound’s body. It had six small horns growing on its back and when it started moving one could understand that it was, in fact, a frog. And a big one at that. Faint electric arcs were moving from its horns and down to cover all the body. The frog’s eyes were following every Drevart’s movement.

/This is…/

He was at a loss of what this creature even was. A frog the size of a medium-sized dog with electricity covering its skin and it seems the tongue can discharge electric currents on hit too.

/What is this creature?/

He asked himself and ducked right away to dodge another tongue lashing out at him. It seemed that these creatures were quite dumb since it didn’t try to aim it’s tong properly and just shot it in a straight line. Drevart tried to get closer to this thing but another tongue was already coming his way, so he had to brace the impact.

*Pshhhhh

A scorching sound was heard and the young man ground his teeth in pain. The electric current was stronger than he expected. He even lost the feeling of his arms for a couple of seconds, enough time for the frog to lash out another tongue. But this time Drevart dodged it.

/To hell with it! I’m tired of constantly running away! The only thing I was doing in this world after coming here was running away!! I’ll kill this stupid thing and make a stew out of it!/

He thought in his anger and started running in the direction of his enemy. They were just 7 meters apart. He needed only a couple of seconds to move in the striking range. But the tongue of the frog was faster. He had to dodge 3-5 times while trying to move closer to the frog and in close proximity he was almost hit in the face by this thing. Only good reaction speed and a keen sense of danger helped him to avoid the direct hit. When the tongue was brushing past his face Drevart felt a little numbness.

/It seems I can only stake it all on my illusions. I can’t fight this thing without using them…/

He was a bit bitter at heart but he understood that this was the only choice for him. He never had any special blade- or foot-work… well, he had a certain degree of proficiency with those but he was never talented in them.

Drevart rushed at his enemy again, but this time his silhouette suddenly… stumbled. This didn’t escape the frog’s eyes and it immediately shot it’s tongue at the target but… the tongue passed right through the Drevart’s silhouette without any resistance. The frog was dumbfounded and immediately tried to pull it back. At the same moment, it felt as if something was moving closer to its skin from the right side just outside its field of view. The frog immediately jumped forward to move out of the range of the attack. And just when it was moving above a harmless patch of reed a hand stretched out of there with the broken blade pointed upwards and slightly tilted to provide a better slashing angle.

The stomach of the frog was creating tiny arcs of electricity and they were going right through the blade and into the hand holding it. Drevart gritted his teeth and endured the searing pain in his arm. He had to. The cut wasn’t that deep. But it was not a shallow one as well.

The frog limply landed in the mud with a loud splash. It started turning around but Drevart was already near the monster, his blade drawn to pierce the soft skin on the bottom side of the mouth. But the frog saw things differently. It was seeing as if the blade was moving towards its right eye in a slashing motion so it tried to tilt its body to avoid the strike but… the real one still hit it pinning the tongue of the frog to its own mouth. Drevart immediately released the blade and just as he did so, electric currents started running through the broken sword and they were much more powerful than before.

The monster immediately started leaping away and when Drevart saw that it was going into the lake he strained all his Aether reserves a bit more, sucking them dry and even tapping into his body composition again to distort the spatial perception of the frog. He made it envision as if it moved too much to the side so it was moving not really in the direction of the lake. So the frog, believing its instincts and being too dumb to think turned again and this time it jumped in the direction it believed the lake to be but in fact it was the direction a bit away from its intended target.

Drevart had to support this illusion for a couple of minuits before the frog finally died from internal and external bleeding. He sighed looking at the corpse sprawled on the ground.

“Finally this thing died. I’m not sure for how much more I would’ve been able to manipulate it’s perception. Thankfully as it was growing weaker the amount of Aether needed to support the illusion was getting less.”

Drevart looked pale. But in his eyes.. .there was a faint flame burning. He was glad. He was really glad that he killed something. He hunted something else and was not the one being hunted. It was such an exhilarating feeling that he almost forgot where he was and almost shouted at the sky. But quickly getting a hold of himself he put away the corpse of the frog in his bag after it bled out and left the crime scene quickly. Drevart's blade became completely unusable after all of this electricity going through it, but he still preferred to keep the remains with him. After all, he can try to get a discount from the blacksmith for giving him some quality iron and even in the shape of the blade… even though it was melted a bit.

………………………………………………….

That’s how the adventure concluded. The return road was safe, Drevart went with the supply caravan going from outpost to the Scribel city, they were happy to help the fellow adventurer and hitched him a ride for free.

BigGreen's Quest Report
~~~~Gobo and I are still getting used to our new situation, so we chose something we thought that would be easier for us. There were a few complications during the sheep's grazing, but nothing serious. We eventually led back the sheep back to their home.~~~~
I wake up and open my eyes to little beams of lights, that break through the tree leaves. I look around and see Gobo sleeping on the grass floor with me. I yawn and go to touch the wooden dome around us.
"Looks like it held up for the night. This little building was worth it after all." I said as I smiled
This 12x12 wooden dome around us took me nearly 2 days to make. With finding the place and finally building it. We chose a spot just near the entrance too the Northern Forest of Scribel and I Plant Manipulated two close by trees to form the dorm. It was nothing much, just a wooden circle around us, a door for us to enter, and a wooden hole on the top to let the smoke out. However it was nice to have a place to come back too.
"Okay. Gobo time to wake up bud. We will head towards town and get you some breakfast first" I explained
"Okay food for Gobo" Gobo yawned
From yesterday's little experiment in eating, it looks like I didn't need any nourishment from eating. All I needed was some mana, sunlight, and water. Gobo on the other hand, even with his little transformation into a Plant Goblin, he still needed to eat regular meals though. So we walked through the North Gate of the town and head towards the Tavern for breakfast, before we went to the Adventurer's Guild. We say good morning to Pierre and order a meal for Gobo and for me just water was fine. We make small talk with Pierre about our new little base I built and Pierre told us to visit him every now and then. As Pierre and I say our goodbyes he makes a last comment.
"It's good to have you back BigGreen, it's not everyday your little-potted plant friend turns into a person. Haha." Pierre smiled
"Yes, your not the the only one. The other little amount of people I know were also were surprised that I turned into this." I chuckled
We both say our goodbye's and I head out towards to the Adventurer's Guild.
++++++++
We enter the Adventurer's Guild and I now know how Gobo felt when it was his first time being stared at. Quite a few eyes were on me, while Gobo and I waited in line for our turn for the receptionist. While waiting in the line, Gobo and I talked about what we needed at our new base. We initially decided on a some cloth or bedsack for Gobo to sleep on and may be some cooking equipment, but before we decided it was our turn at the receptionist. We say hello and ask for the Shepherding Sheep quest. With our quest accepted we head off to our destination, a little sheep farm. I had something I wanted to do at this sheep farm, something I've been longing to due ever since I got this new body.
We arrive at the sheep farm and greet the owner, he says his name is Jake. He thanks for helping him today and leads us to his little sheep herd, out unto the field. As we walk towards the sheep herd, I see a little figure waving a little blue shining stick. As we arrive at the sheep herd, Jake talks to the young man.
"Ryan come over here" Jake says.
The boy waving the blue shining stick, looks back at the owner and walks towards us. While he is walking towards us the whole sheep herd is also follows him.
"Oh forgot to turn it off" he says
He shakes the stick a few times and the blue shine dims and disappears.
"Okay. What did you need dad?" he asks
"These two are BigGreen and Gobo. They are going to help with today's protection" Jake explains
Jake and Ryan talk for a bit more, until Jake leaves and tells us to come back when the sun just starts to set. Ryan introduces himself to us and tells us he's Jake son. He explains that today he would be in charge of leading the sheep to the grazing area and all that Gobo and I needed to do was protect the sheep while they ate. "Easy enough" I thought and asked for what kind of monsters or things we would encounter on our trip. He told me the occasional lone wolf or any stray predator looking for an alone sheep. After all the explanations were over, we headed off to the grazing area for the sheep. Yes.Yes.It's almost time.
Ryan walks in front of the herd with the shining blue stick, while the sheep follow him. We eventually arrive at the grazing area, crossing over a wide bridge. It was a big flat fertile land, a perfect place for the sheep to eat and rest. While Ryan got the sheep all settled in, Gobo and I went to scout the area. We mostly saw, small animals, nothing that would endanger the head, and we met back with Ryan.
"Okay. All we need to do now is let the sheep graze. It's pretty boring, but at least relaxing for us" Ryan chuckled
++++++++
"Hey Ryan..... I got request" I asked
"Yeah go ahead. What do you need?" Ryan said
"Umm...Can...Can...I...pet a sheep" I twiddled my thumbs
"What? Can you say that again. I couldn't hear you" Ryan commented
"Can I pet a sheep..." I muttered
"What?" Ryan looked confused.
"Can I pet one of your sheep Please" I asked confidently
"Oh ya sure. Go right ahead. We have a lot people who wanna come pet our sheep, it's actually really common" Ryan said unsurprised
"OKAY THANK YOU" I say as I rush too find my perfect fluff
It took a long time of fluff searching, but I think I've found it. It was lying on it's stomach by itself under the shade of a small tree. Yes this was the white soft fluffy feeling I was looking for. I approach cautiously to not frighten the little thing.
"Just one more step and.... yes I'm here" I smile
I plunge both of my palms into the soft looking fluffy white wool of sheep.
:blob_melt:"Yes this is the feeling of fluff" I say , as I head first right into it's fluff :blob_uwu:
*rustle*rustle*
"So fluffy" I giggled as I pet the sheep some more
*rustle*rustle*rustle*
"But why does my fluffing have to be so short" I said depressed :blob_pat_sad:
A wolf suddenly jumps out of the new bushes, trying to grab my fluff. It come jaws first biting at the sheep's neck, I block it with my left arm and it latches onto me. Gobo has heard the commotion and has started running towards my way. While the wolf is latched unto my arm, I conjure a bright flash of green-tinted light and cast it right in-front of it's face. The wolf let's go of my arm and while it's blind and disorientated, I create needles of light and send them flying towards the wolf. My attack connects and the wolf whimpers in pain, just in time for Gobo to smash it with a Shield Bash. The wolf falls down laying on it's side and I then casted Vines of Light, that made several vines of light that gushed out of the ground beneath the wolf and covered the wolf. Now that the wolf was bounded and could not move any more, Gobo came in with the killing blow with his sword.
*Deep breath*
"Good timing Gobo" I gave him a thumbs-up
"Mhm Master and Gobo strong" Gobo grunted
As we continue to check the area for more predators we hear Ryan.
"Hey!...HEY! Is everything over okay there now!?" Ryan asked concerned
I waved to Ryan and shouted back "Yeah, but I think we should leave from this area now. Who knows what might come now. Now that blood is in the air."
"Okay then, the sheep should be done grazing today as well. So it's fine." Ryan says
"So about this Wolf carcass, do you think your father would help us carve it up" I asked
"Yeah sure no problem, just let us have some of the meat in return. I haven't had wolf in a while" Ryan smiled
++++++++
We arrive at Ryan's father sheep farm with the herd and all. Ryan leads the sheep back into their home and turn off the shining blue stick. He tells us to wait here and he will get get his father. *Sigh*"I guess this is the all the fluffing I'm going to have for today" I stated, while looking at those balls of fluff:blob_pat_sad: . Ryan eventually comes back bringing his father with him.
"Well now, that's quite something you brung back. Now isn't it" Jake said.
"It is and I was wondering if you could help me carve it up. You can keep some of the meat or fur as well." I asked
"No,no,no. Don't worry about it. You keeping my little'ol sheep herd and my boy safe is payment enough. Now let's go in the back with your Wolf" Jake smiled
We walk to the back of Jake's house and enter his room for preparing meat.
"If you don't mind me asking. Is this your first time hunting?" Jake questioned, while looking for his equipment
"If you don't count slimes, then yes this would be my first prey. How did you know?" I stated
"Most people I know out here wouldn't ask for someone's help in cleaning up their kill. If you want, I can teach you some of basics?" Jake asked
"Yes, please if you could" I said surprised
For the next 5 hours or so, Jake taught me the basics of skinning, meat cutting and necessary things when cutting up you kill. He also taught me a bit of how to cook and preserve my meats. The things that I learned here would be definitely useful in the future. Jake asked me to stay for dinner, but I still had to go do some shopping before nightfall. I thanked Jake again and as we left, I have him a weaker healing potion and a couple of Mana Glowstones as payment for today's lessons. Next destination, shopping for home necessities.
++++++++
After me and Gobo's little shopping spree we both went back home. It was a nice walk home, with the setting sun in the distance, glowing a bright red orange. As we settle down our supplies in the base, I prepare Gobo's dinner. Gobo on the other hand, went to go grab some firewood and a bucket of water. Gobo arrives back, while I finish making his dinner. I make tea with few nearby herbs and a Small Mana Glowstone. We both finish our dinner's for the day and we enter our little dome house. Gobo lay's his sleeping mat down and falls asleep easily. I sit on the the wall looking up into the ceiling and into the night sky.
"I used the slimes to destroy the slimes." --- Aquamarine
For the Caster, taking out slimes proved to be more easier than she expected.
First up, she was outside the city, sitting by the river, when she spotted a little cluster of things going boing.
"...Huh?"
The exterior properties seemed cute enough until one of them fired a jet of water at her. The girl diverted the jet and watched it soak into the riverbank. She then snatched up one of the slimes with her hair.
It's water.
*Boing*
Following an arc of water that bounced off her hair harmlessly, the girl realized that she was being attacked. None-effectual, but still.
I see how it is.
The slime in her hair's grasp popped as the girl squeezed, leaving behind nothing but it's core. Then she turned to look at the others, still shooting water at her.
Twenty minutes later, the girl was back with a sack of ten slime cores.
"Ring around the roses~" --- Aquamarine
The little girl received quite a bit of attention as she floated through the city. Whenever she met a guard on patrol, they'd look at her, then pat her on the head.
It made her quite indignant. So she wandered off into the alleyways instead. Noting the change in environment, Aquamarine decided to hover a little bit higher, just a little ways such that it'd look like she was on an imaginary second floor. Then she continued floating.
It was early afternoon and she wasn't really expecting anything, to be honest. So it was quite the surprise when she spotted movement from the other end of an alley she'd just swung into. Making an effort to fly faster, Aquamarine followed. Three alleys later she had her answer; two men in black robes lifting a sack between them. The sack was struggling and failed to cover the legs that peeked out. A child, by the looks of it.
Oh, a kidnapping. Haven't seen one of those in a while.
Idly musing to herself, Aquamarine decided to follow the kidnappers to their base of operations. Whether she'd attempt a rescue was up to circumstances, but at least the location had to be found, right? She continued floating after them, for five or six more alleys, until the men stopped and she ducked back to the previous alley. There was a small clanking of metal, then silence.
Aquamarine peeked around the corner again. The trio were gone, and she could guess where they'd went to. There was a large circular metallic piece in the floor, with a handle attached to it.
Sewage system. I'm not going down there.
So instead the girl went back to turn in the report.
