So I was in the loo when I had this question to ask the SHFfians about, what is the boundary of age between a couple?

First scenario from an old CN xianxia I read, that made me ask this question, happens between a male MC (aged 14~16) and his female teacher (aged 28). During the time when they are mortal, ie life expectancy to be at 100, shipping the two of them feels wrong. Fast forward 200 years with the both of them reaching some BS cultivation level where their life expectancy is at 1000, the female teacher now expresses interest to MC, citing that both of them, by their new lifespan, is in their early twenties and they should bone.

So the first question is, is her reasoning correct?

Second scenario featuring a 500 yo legal shota, whose race's life expectancy is 10,000, and a 30 yo normie human OL, the question I want to ask is, whose scale of age should we be using? Also, assuming that the maturity is scaled with life expectancy, meaning that the shota has a mental capacity of a normal 5 yo, how screwed up is the scenario?

Lol, what about 16 year old male and his 10,000 year old hot female cultivation master who now has to meet his parents who are much much younger than her?

I’m talking like 75 generations older than the mortal parents.

In real life too much of a difference usually means one will die much sooner than the other.

In fiction, the bigger the gap the more fun it is for me to read.

Isn't the age gaps in society usually just enforced because the younger person doesn't have the mentality and responsibility to be ready if things go south?

Anyway, I wouldn't think too much about it. Seggs is good if you just think about the seggs

Depends on the perspective you want to show/focus on.

Age limit is a modern society concept. Medieval ones can have an 11 year old princess married off to a 54 year old lord without issues before.

One of our national heroes married a lady 10+ years his junior, and they fought Spaniards together.

Ehh yeah, good point. Since both of the student and teacher are in the same age group (in their early 200s) , they should grow mentally. But since it is xianxia, gg.

Oh.

Yeah, I always find the past with 12 yo being old enough to be shipped for political marriage to be "wut?" But since back then, people care more on connections for power than consent, shit hits different.

True. I think, by reading histories, people only became aware of the concept of 'consent' and 'individuality' when the study of Psychology flourished.

Before children and women were treated as expendables and commodities. Sad but did happen.

If they're both consenting adults with fully functioning mental capacities then age gaps don't matter. I don't give a shit if a 23 year old girl wants to date a 85 year old man, much less something that is fictional.

The problem is normally if an artist is using age gap but also pedo baiting by drawing very very very child like character(s) getting with someone that is very clearly a grown ass adult. Fine for 2d porn but not in other works. More realistic issues would be something like grooming or using someone for money, the former being substantially worse than the latter.

And if you're wondering whether you should fap to something or not, then just consider whether you'll act on those desires irl or be warped by them. If not, feel free to engage in whatever degeneracy you want. Just don't hurt a real person.

The rule of thumb for present day society is, half of the eldest ones age plus seven for the allowed minimum age difference, for the maturity gap to not be to far apart. So for a 100 years old woman/man a 57 year old woman/man is fine. 20 year old should be 17 as the minimum. But now you are into age of consent laws and so forth. Anything below 14 years old though that rule of thumb no longer works for minimum age.

Age is the least thing I want to question compared to what Authors cooked in their meth labs these days.

Yes and no.
Children and women were commodities in some societies but there were social rules around exploiting them. Societal rules were formed to protect the group as a whole and what went against the groups well being became verboten and exploiting women and children came under that heavily. Now outsiders generally were fair game.

Meh... To me there's no such thing as boundary in fiction. You can literally write anything you want as long as it makes sense.

First scenario - she's not wrong and is considered normal by our society's standard unless their relationship is still teacher and student.

Second scenario - It's 'technically' legal, but creepy mostly because of the shota's mental age and overall appearance. Though, it's more tolerable when compared to the opposite scenario, where the child is a loli instead of shota.

1: Questions in the loo should remain there and flushed properly.
2: After he is legally an adult it is no longer anyone's problem. Her reasoning is disingenuous and unnecessarily convoluted unless he has some sort of hang up she is trying to get past, in that case he is an idiot and he better be talented in bed or she is just wasting her time since she could at least get someone smarter and with less hang-ups.
3: Shota: This term is used strictly to refer to boys and boy characters in anime and manga series. If it looks like a boy, and has the mentality of a boy, then it is a boy; go to pedoland jail, do not pass go, do not collect 200 Yen. The legal issues in a court of law of someone technically of adult age but still has a mentality of a child has been addressed in various forms; I am sure a court of law would use those as a precedent, and would especially take in the issue that the child has not yet physically grown into an adult body.

I'm referring to Western European medieval society in general.

Doesn't that mean the guy would be like 214-216 yrs old and the woman 228 yrs old ? I don't see any problem here. At least if they both lived 200 yrs since they met.

As for the question 'would they be in their early twenties if they have 800 more yrs to live ?', I would say yes but it's quite hard to answer tbh. Especially since living 200yrs is already quite a lot. In most cultivation novels, the authors tend to not put a lot of importance on time and you may see some ridiculous use of time.

Imo, even if your lifespan is 1000yrs, it doesn't mean that those 200yrs have been slower/faster in your perception than if you only had 200yrs of lifespan. (It's the same dumb cliché rule that says elves, dragons and other species with a long lifespan tend to not care that much about time. I don't think it would be true if this happened irl)

if that guy has a 5yrs old mentality after living for more than 500yrs... then yeah, the scenario is fcked up. I always cringe when I see these shota/loli characters that lived for hundreds/thousands of years and still act like kids. Like, wtf ?

They want to hide from the fact that they're old. Or maybe they wish they could turn back time to when they were younger but can't, thus opting to go for the only possible solution, changing one's mind to act like one.
