I would say that he and his family doesn't really belong to any sides. They try to have good relationships with everyone in order to establish commercial routes to make some money in order to fund their investigations or some government stuff. Basically the Aerieth household is that friend that will agree with everyone and will try to be on everyone's good side as long as it doesn't drag them into something troublesome like a war.
