Am I writing it wrong or are my readers just dumb?

Heh. I once had readers so totally misinterpret a scene, that I was asking myself, whether I am stupid for thinking, that it was obvious, or my readers for not understanding. Because so many made the mistake even with me trying to make it clear in the following chapters (so obvious, that I thought everyone had to understand). But then: This one person came along, interpreting everything just like I intended it to be and... Yeah. That taught me, that "target-audience" is more important, than one might think XD (And I began to regard all the readers not commenting as "they understand". For self-preservation! *laugh*) On another note: Reading a story "in one go" vs. "reading a story chapter per chapter" can also play into it. Even more so, when they are avid readers. Forgetting details is easy, when reading a lot inbetween, or similar stories.
