I had made a cover for my story in realistic style, but I realized that most of the covers here at SH are anime style.

So I wanted to know which is the most popular between the two styles.

Only clicking without hesitation if its anime.
I take a moment to process anything else.
With that in mind, feel free to take a gander at my trashy cover.

Well, a lot of weebs are here, so anime will automatically garner you more clicks. Whether they'll stay is another story :blob_popcorn:

Although there are different kinds of anime styles. Personally I would straight out ignore anime tiddies and the classic anime style that makes every chara look like a child.

Go with the one that fits the style of your story, I'd say. At least that's what I'll be going for. But well, you can never go wrong with anime one. A colourful one will have a much easier time catching someone's attention, like Journey to Amoraketh for example.

Anime usually gives more leeway to demonstrate emotions and tonalities. Realistic styles can present mature subjects and adult themes better but in terms of flexibility, anime really is a one-fit-all art style.

The only reason I'd hesitate to pick an anime cover is while it does appeal strongly to a certain demographic it is also a major turn off for others and can turn them away because an anime cover has a certain reputation that comes with it. That problem is even more pronounced on sites like royal road.

There are various styles when it comes to anime. From really simplistic and flat style to highly complex and detailed. There are even those than are quite unusual.

It is actually the more complex and detailed ones, oriented more towards realism, that seems to grabs most people's attention, especially if they have a specific appeal, i.e.: cool, cute, sexy, etc..

Mmmmmmmm, curious, can you share an example of what you mean? I can't quite imagine this style in all honesty.
It was a hentai... Can’t find it...
I generally dislike weird anatomy. Anime doesn’t mean the anatomy has to be shit.

You're just saying that because you spent a long time learning anatomy.

Would something like this be acceptable as a cover?

ophianime photo 2.jpg

Or something sexier would be better?

P.S. I didn't make the background, I just picked up a random image and put some blur.

WHO WOULDN'T APPRECIATE A PERFECT MERMAID LINE OR KILLER THIGHS???
Yes, I squandered the last decade on anatomy and am still shit at it.
