I really like genderbender stories with yuri but like half of it (with smut) is futa which makes me wonder if I’m alone here? What is it that makes people like futa?
Anyone else Like Genderbender but dislike Futa?

Futa is not bad in itself, but it's annoying that this kind of smut (largely written by amateurs and/or as wish-fulfillment) is mixed up with other gender bender stories covering completely different topics.
I feel like many people like futa because it embodies good parts of both male and female, while having no male traits that would repulse some people. And I mean that not only physically, but also psychologically, mainly in terms of behavior (I don't really want to bring that up, but toxic masulinity is mostly what I'm talking about here).

Oh, my opposite - I don't like traditional gender bender at all, but futa is fun.
When it's done well, futa is all the fun of androgyny and almost all human sex characteristics in one. It's like a celebration of the human body.
Story-wise, outside of smut, it can also be a nice way to play with gender expectations without having to go heavily into dysphoria or newly enforced gender roles.
On the other hand, I personally don't like stories that are heavy on exploring gender identity or sexual orientation, so I won't touch most "suddenly gaining the body of a cis man/woman!" novels.

i totally agree with you. i see GB yuri with futa as just the height of laziness and a 'have your cake and eat it too' mindset. kind of a 'i want het but i dont actually want guys in the story.... *thinking* i know, i'll just give all my female characters fully functional dicks.'
like, just write a shitty het smut if you want dicks everywhere. IMO, lazy futa stories are the shitty bane of yuri/GL stories. so many times have i found stories that sound interesting, see futa in the tags and then nope the fuck out of there.
I dont mind futa that has an actual reason, is only temporary and contrived through magical or technical means (like a way for yrui couples to have biological babies) but that's the only time i'm fine with it.

Gender Bender and Futa usually have little to no overlap between them, so it's normal to like one and dislike the other.
I like gender bender when it is a more introspective story where the character suddenly finds themselves in a new body and needs to adapt it to and try living their life in a way that was previously alien to them. I like it when it's a deep story that actually deals with gender identity where the character tries figuring out how they identify themselves at.
Futa OTOH... It can be used to touch on those topics to some extent, I suppose? But it's usually used just for the sake of lewd stuff, which is like... Well, I quite frankly couldn't care less about it. It just doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

I like gender bender, male to female type specifically, and I like smut too, and futa ain't bad either...
Throw in some bdsm as well, and succubi, and tentacles, and other fetish stuff... Its all great...
However...
I am not really a fan of the Main Character being a Futa...
I would much prefer them being a "normal" male to female character, who keeps ending up in
various, sticky hentai situations, one after another...
Encounter with some horny Futa characters being just one of em...

Gender bender is okay, sometimes. If it happens once and you don't even make a big deal of it, why even have a character be male at the start? Otherwise it can be written well.
I dislike futa. It mixes sexual characteristics too much for my tastes (tomboys & femboys are fine). I don't expect it in my yuri. I've read two futa works I liked, not on scribblehub, and they both included 1. a proper in-universe in-character reason and mechanism to give a woman a biggus dickus, 2. it being temporary and repeatable, 3. it being acknowledged as a weird one-off fetish and not some kind of rare biological trait nor an unremarkable thing everyone in society is familiar with. Almost always you get this mediocre porn plot level writing instead.
