Yeah, had just finished the first season of the anime when people started griping about how bad the ending was (so I kind of moved on from it to the Ranma 1/2 reboot and ... Dan Da Dan)...

One of the discussions about it mentioned a rumor that the writer for the series changed twice over the run of the story - one left or died (was not clear from the discussion), and the other ticked off the publisher and was fired so the person who wrote the final story arc had not been involved when the show started and had only had a minor role during the second writer's tenure.

So, maybe another way to avoid an unsatisfying ending is to actually finish the story yourself instead of letting corporate weasels finish it for you?

If they're constantly switching writers/directors/producers/etc., the audience will be lucky to even see an ending; they didn't get one in RWBY, The Golden Compass, Divergent, Narnia, Disney's Tron, and Percy Jackson.

Now I want to see how bad it ends myself so I can decide if it's really that bad.

Deku says in the very first episode of the anime: 'This is the story of how I became the number 1 Hero' and then ends with him losing his powers and becoming a teacher? No wonder why fans felt let down.

Kohei Horikoshi was the writer for the entire manga.

Ah, and for the anime as well? Maybe the people talking about it got confused (or confused me when I was reading about it - as I said, I only watched the first season and most of the second - may have been talking about two different shows even and I missed the transition)

The anime is based on the manga (and also not finished).
