Just trying to get words on page to formulate a story because the infinite possibilities dont narrow when I keep them in my head. Easier to figure out overall when I write it down to have something with a beginning, middle, and end.

Anyway, time to make my first attempt…

Jordan Fisher and Bryan Wallkin were with transported into this game world by unknown means. When they first woke up, they knew nothing of each other or why they were in the game they played. Only that it was unfortunate.

“Warground Kaleidoscope” was a Gacha game based on a Visual Novel. Having many heroines that appear over the course of an expansive story that never ends. Not even Jordan and Bryan had seen the ending of the endless story.

However, Jordan had a clue unlike Bryan due to originally being a fan of the Visual Novel before getting into the game. He realised that there were at least five major disasters that were likely to destroy the world if they were left on their own.

So how could they deal with these great disasters?

Jordan was late in realising his abilities compared to Bryan, who had more convenient rules regarding his ability. They both awakened similar yet completely different abilities. Both given the name ‘Taboo’ by the status windows.

Jordan was the Taboo Romanticist. Initially, he thought he was talentless. His ability didn’t have a manual attached, so figuring out what the Innate Gift did was difficult. Eventually, he found that he was able to gain power through bonds.

By wooing girls and getting their graces, he was able to gain power from them. The more intimate he was to them, the stronger his power attained through ‘Bond Levels’.

Bryan, on the other hand, was a Taboo Gamer with the ability to gain power through killing. This not being limited to direct killing. As even indirectly killing opponents gave ‘Experience’ needed to gain more powers and abilities.

When they finally crossed paths, Jordan could only be defeated and understand that he wasn’t really chosen as a ‘Hero’. As apart from having the better Innate Gift, Bryan also awakened the first ever ‘Hero’ Class that never existed before.

His own Class was different too compared to the norm, but while Bryan attained 24 Skills upon attaining his Class, Jordan only gained 1. His Class, Guardian, gave him the unique Universal Digestion skill. Allowing him to devour Mana.

It sounded really helpful, but didn’t have any convenient suction ability. If he wanted to devour Fire Mana, he had to literally eat fire. If he wanted Earth Mana, he had to eat dirt. With the easiest to access elements being water and wind.

Both still being impossible to eat if they were weaved into Offensive Magic.

Jordan could only feel inferior in front of Bryan’s more convenient and conventional abilities. He was an introvert at heart and could only be able to form romantic bonds with a finite number of people. Bryan’s power grew more infinitely.

There were no lack of Magic Beasts and enemies needing to be slain. Criminals with bad intentions that sought world destruction. Bryan being able to gain Exp indirectly meant those killed by his allies would empower him. He really envied that.

Still, Jordan enjoyed his time in this game world.

Joining forces with Bryan to defeat the Dragon of the End.

When they reached their peak, Bryan had amassed countless abilities and physical strength so absurd that it defied logic. Able to slice mountains with his bare hands and tread continents in a single step. He had become invincible. Greater than any meee dragon.

Jordan believed that Bryan would be the perfect hero of this story, but he couldn’t have known his thoughts were wrong. Slowly starting to notice with an ability left by his dead lover. A girl that had been suspicious of Bryan’s personality.

People had their flaws and Jordan expected that someone from a modern society wouldn’t be that bad. Moreover, the grief of her untimely demise had made him too distracted to think too deeply on that suspicion. The Hero acted so perfectly.

A true idol for the masses to look up to.

It was only in the final battle did he finally notice.

From the very beginning, everything had been going wrong. One of the main characters, Lex Lindblum, was killed the moment he appeared at the academy by an unknown assailant. The other main characters missed their ‘Growth Events’.

Everything was being monopolised by Bryan.

When the single dragon was wrecking havoc and killing ally soldiers, Bryan became more powerful over time. Eventually, only he and Bryan were left standing. Having finally killed the Dragon of the End with the unbelievable might of a real Hero.

“Did you kill them?” Jordan asked him plainly.

Looking at the figure standing atop of the dragon’s corpse, he couldn’t even bring himself to act cautiously. They had grown close over the years and even a brotherly connection. That was why he had to ask. Even if the answer was a lie.

Bryan turned to look at Jordan’s dead eyes.

“I only did what was necessary for the cause.”

“You killed our companions.”

“Companions? Just because you romanced a few NPCs, you think they’re real? Everyone who followed us were deadweight. You want to know the truth? Everyone on this battlefield was fed a poison that kills them a moment before death. Are you happy now? You know my damn secret.”

“Evil bastard! What kind of logic are you using? It’s not only that! So many times when changing the game events, I thought we lost because we were too weak. You were killing civilians too? The dragon is dead, but who’ll praise the hero? The dead? Is this the ending you hoped for?”

“Of course it wasn’t!” Unexpectedly, Bryan made a look of remorse upon seeing the world around us. A decimated continent with no survivors.

“I was too impatient.” Then revealed a ground-breaking secret: “I killed one of the main characters too early. If I knew they were essential for the True Ending, I wouldn’t have touched Lex Lindblum. Killing him is one of my deepest regrets.”

Bryan revealed that not only was he a psychopath, but he had always been this way from the very beginning.

“Well, I can’t be bothered. Everyone I’ve ever loved is dead because of you. Come. I dare you to try and kill me.” Jordan knew he was completely outmatched, but he couldn’t hold back this bloodlust that had seeped into his soul.

He had been holding back his urge to kill Bryan out of rationality. If the dragon didn’t die, then all the sacrifices made would be meaningless. Now that it died, he could free himself of that role. As he had already failed at being a ‘Guardian’.

“You think you can beat me? I know your ability already. Taboo Romanticist? Yeah, you can retain your power even if the NPCs you seduced die. It is meaningless though… Huh?” Bryan suddenly felt the intensity of the power was different.

Unknowing that in these years, Jordan had uncovered the true power of Taboo Romanticist over the years. Love could be explained in the language of flowers, but romance was written through stories. Taking on various forms.

Brotherhood was a romance formed through fighting together as allies. Rivalry was formed through clashing sincerely. Friendship formed with the sharing of happiness. There were so many forms of romance besides that of ‘Love’.

On top of that, there was another factor.

“Regardless of how you see things right now, we fought together through thick and thin. You’re a brother to me, and my carelessness is what lead to everyone dying. Because I had supported you for even a moment, they died.” Jordan words revealed something that was hidden until now.

How did Jordan know Bryan was growing in power as the dragon killed allies?

It was because he gained ‘indirect kills’. Exp.

Taboo Romanticist had slightly copied Taboo Gamer. Not completely, but it was enough.

He clenched his fist and focused EVERYTHING.

Universal Digestion devoured all his power like a black hole. Focusing it and refining it. The surging power in one fist eventually reached the point of singularity. Breaking through a barrier of power that shouldn’t exist in this world.

The air was shaken. Grass trembling and the earth quaking in fear. Space and time seemed to become obsolete. Scared to touch that fist. The hairs on Bryan’s body stood on their ends. He couldn’t stop the fist that was being thrown out.

he struggled, but the unfamiliar power tore through the world and all his defensive abilities at once. Striking even his soul. An ultimate power of annihilation reached by Jordan at the moment of sacrificing his life and future.

Bryan died while in agony.

Jordan laughed. His body turning to dust once his life force was depleted. He felt like if he had survived, then he might have reached the level of power to destroy the universe itself. Having literally scared time and space when attacking.

Perhaps in acknowledgment of his power, he found himself being sent into the past.

With the reversion of his relationships, all his powers were gone except those he cultivated by himself. Going back to the days of his childhood with only Taboo Romanticist- No, it seemed like the aspect of Taboo Gamer he took also survived.

Did that mean the Bryan he knew was still alive despite the regression? Jordan promised that this time would be different. That everyone would see the True Ending.

Now that he knew how romance worked, he could forge bonds from the beginning. Strong enough to beat both Bryan and the disasters of the future.
