we've created the stick. and we used the stick. it wasn't long until the stick was used to hurt.

then there was the rock. the rock that sparked fire. fire that was warm. fire that was hot. fire that burns. fire that kills.

then there's the gunpowder. gunpowder that makes the sky light up with the brilliance of fireworks. gunpowder that, concentrated in an explosion, brings death by the tens.

then came the bomb. built for nothing but total annihilation.

and in the face of peace, the corporate came along, building their own creation: the zoomers. the zoomers flocked to their games, flossing like no tomorrow, dragging their buddies in with great zeal as they crowded over Product™.

and now the zoomers are weaponized, ready to reign hellfire upon the rival corporates with Brand Loyalty™ rivalling even the most extreme of propaganda-ridden soldiers.

i bet half of these kids don't even know what 1984 means.

Here's a TL;DR for you cave skulled troglodytes too bicycle brained to make a Google search: Apple takes a 30% cut of every payment if you have your shit on their store. Fortnite bypassed that to allow all in-game purchases directly from Epic. Apple bans Fortnite. Epic is now going into a lawsuit against Apple. This is one of their stunts to get public favour on their side.

picture this: Fortnite, one of the many creations of Epic Studios, also the creator of the Epic Games Store, known for its many infamous endeavours with Tencent and locking games into exclusivity deals on PC platforms, is now waging war against corporate tyranny Apple™ (which needs no introduction already) using nothing but the power of giant propaganda material plastered across its game to its audience members which the majority are most definitely children under the age of 16.

I'm not taking any sides or forming any opinions here cause' quite frankly, no matter what I say, either victory is still gonna be hip-breakingly hilarious to me. All this, for in-game purchases in one of the mobile versions of a game (it's still untouched in Google Play) that's already free on PC to begin with.

I take what I said back, 2020. You truly are the best fucking year in the history of years. Who would've thought we'd see the fight against corporate tyranny being spearheaded by another corporate giant?

-

In the first age, in the first battle, when the microtransactions first emerged, one stood. Burned by the embers of in-game purchases, his soul blistered by the fires of overpriced skins and tainted beyond ascension, he chose the path of perpetual purchases.

In his ravenous greed he found no peace, and with boiling blood he scoured the Season Pass seeking vengeance against the zoomers who had wronged him.

He wore the crown of the Epic Games Store, and those that tasted the bite of his wallet named him... the Zoom Slayer.

Frankly if i were the judge I'd through the suit out.

Like they obviously agreed to Apples conditions before putting the game on the app store. They have no excuses for breaking the rules.

Agreeing to conditions can be ruled ineffective if the conditions are unenforceable (or should not be enforced). But yeah, probably a win for apple.

I'm not particularly interested in giving money to a company with a CCP branch in it. In this case Tencent. I just find it amazingly ironic a company who answers to a company who answers to fake commies did that.

Wait a minute, wasnt the first bomb, a bundle of TNT, originally built for the purpose of mining and not total annihilation?

Apple and Google are notoriously greedy in how they run the app/ play store. And yet, Epic games manages to come across as even slimier than the both of them.

We are watching a truly machiavelian mega-corp battle play out. My take is Epic deliberately got themselves banned and are making a media stink for leverage in negotiating a lower rate for transactions. They have an in-game video prepped for the same day they get banned? cmon.

Didn't Trump just sign an order say you cant be a business partner of Tencent a if your a US based company? I wonder if Epic is gonna implode for that.

People underestimate the force that anti-trust laws can have on things. Google at the very least lets you side load, but Apple does not. While Apple has less marketshare globally, in the US it makes a difference.

It is due to these anti-trust laws that Apple even exists today. Because Microsoft prevented Apple from going bankrupt to prevent themselves from being hit with anti-trust laws.

End of the day, issues with Epic games aside, if they win, it will be a win for everyone. And I support more open platforms than closed lock down ones. Even if the message might seem ironic from who is doing it, a win for openness is a win for everyone.

This isn't a fight for voting if Apple or Epic should be president. It's a matter of which favors consumers more. If 2 evil corporations want to battle each other, and one winning gives us benefits. Then there is no reason not to side with whoever benefits us consumers more. At least in this fight, doesn't mean you will actually buy from them.

Side note: That said, Unreal Engine is awesome and one of the few open source top tier gaming engines. So much modding and free games became possible due to unreal engine.

Fortnite fucking sucks anyway. The whole battle-royale trend is mind-numbingly retarded and I could care less how this ends either way. Maybe they'll both sue each other to bankruptcy. Hell, that might actually improve this otherwise shit year if it managed to wrap up and conclude in December, which is very doubtful. These kinds of court battles tend to stall out for lengthy time frames.

This. Few people are accounting for the anti-trust laws waiting in the shadows. I figure if Epic can make a big enough of a case, the US fed govt might employ the anti-trust laws against apple. Remember, it was only two weeks ago that the 'Big 4' tech giants were roasted by US congress on using their power and influence to possibly be squashing competitors.
One of the very topics that Apple got roasted on was it's 30% app cut and how willing Apple is to bend it's own rules either for other Big 4 (Amazon notably) or for those who'll cave to be tied in much deeper to apple products.

Honestly, in this case, Epic (no matter your view on then) seems to be sitting on the side of the consumer and may, potentially, end up being the trigger that brings anti-trust down on the big 4 finally.

The way I see this, it is not a fight for openness, just a fight who gets the bigger slice of the pie. With how Epic operates, they have no interest in openess, they just don't want others to have exclusivity on something they could hoard to themselves. Consumers don't really have much to gain from this, other than Epic shit being unblocked again.

Ah yes, I forgot that 1984 was *checks note* a megacorporation breaking their contract with another megacorporation and receiving a slap on the wrist in exchange

Some might say that it's a reference to an old ad from Apple but that was just as tone deaf even back then so

Unionized socialism when, please?

Why the fuck does everyone compare moments when they feel wronged to fucking 1984? Especially a goddamn corporation. Did these people even read 1984? Equating Fornite being banned from the App Store to 1984 would be like me equating a paper cut to getting gutted by a broadsword.

The reference is to holding large monopolies (or duopolies) over the control of technology or information. the crack at apple is because one of apple's early ads ( i think) made reference that they wanted to break intel's monopoly on computing (back in the 80s) and that they're hypocrites for wanting to now maintain their own monopoly they've built up.

That's like choosing between eating shit with AIDs or just plain shit. You're definitely not wrong, but it's just sad that we have to compromise this fucking low.

Yes, and since both sides of the political isle want to get back at tech companies because they feel like they have too much control over elections, aka old money vs new money. They might take steps regardless.

That might be their intention, but that doesn't mean consumers can't benefit from their intentions. So to consumers, yes it is about openness. It's not like Apple will make a special policy for Epic only. Any change would be a sweeping one where all developers benefit.

Why the fuck does everyone compare moments when they feel wronged to fucking 1984? Especially a goddamn corporation. Did these people even read 1984? Equating Fornite being banned from the App Store to 1984 would be like me equating a paper cut to getting gutted by a broadsword.

I think it was a pun of Apple's old 1984 commercial. It's actually quite funny cause Apple pretty much became exactly what they hated in their old commercial.
