Hoyo being "nice" and only releasing 1 new character this patch before going bananas and releasing ALL fan favorites back to back to back in HSR... Herta, Sundae, TY, Screwllum. And then we already have a whole new cast looming with 3.0 being around the corner...
I still need to finish the 2.4 storyline
Actually I guess I could put my friend code here, I've got an e6 firefly as one of my support characters. 616214312 America server if that matters in hsr.
Wizardy Variant Daphne
Has anyone tried this new gacha? I stumbled upon it by chance through a video that popped up in my YouTube timeline. Sometimes the algorithm really brings hidden gems to light, this time, a diamond in the rough.
The game is a first-person, turn-based dungeon-crawling RPG in old-school style. It’s the latest chapter in a video game saga that, from what I gather, dates back to the '80s and is quite well-known in Japan, or at least so it seems.
The MC is a resurrected ghoul who has the power to return objects and people to a pre-death state, which ties into the gacha mechanics. Using bones found in the dungeon (or purchased I think, though I haven’t checked out the shop yet), you can roll for characters that range in rarity from generic, nameless ones to legendary figures.
The setting and style are dark fantasy, which I find particularly appealing, far removed from the fluo fluff of Failguard or other more mainstream gachas. In the game, you can make choices that influence the story, missions, and even lead to characters’ deaths. Yeah, permadeath.
Since it was just recently released, it’s still a bit unstable, with some strange bugs, like the cutscenes playing in slow motion if your phone isn’t set to English.
One downside is that you can’t have Japanese audio with English subtitles. As a result, I’m stuck with the English dubbing, which, as usual, is terrible.
It's a game that doesn't hold your hand, it's hardcore, and quite punishing. In a gacha, this is definitely unusual, but certainly not for everyone.
That said, as a mobile pastime, it’s much better than I expected.
My opinion of dungeon crawlers is that at first they feel like a resource management expedition and then when nothing much can threaten you, they throw random absolute bullshit at you, like Wizardry 1 ninja's instant kills or ghoul's level drain. Also, you often have to drag a magician with you who'll instantly die to a trap
The last dungeon crawler I tried was Labyrinth of Refrain, and while the systems were super original, there was also a lot of player hostile BS design
That said, I'll check Daphne out. The devs were smart to drop the numbering, because it always repel new players. Also, Wizardry bears a heavy weight as beloved cultural landmark, yet its IP is as weak as a crumbling elderly man who's not even allowed to make drastic gameplay innovations and is running on scraps. The Wizardry MMO fared so poorly too, it's amazing to see this series still running on like a zombie entirely surviving on passionate nostalgia
I was already playing a gooner gacha game (Horizon Walker), I guess I'll have even less time working lmao
Edit: it's not compatible with MuMu emulator
Edit2: The reviewer you linked spoke about permadeath, but I read on the other place that your dead companions will recover fortitude even as corpse so you can always wait for max fortitude to revive them at 100% chance. My guess is that it's a monetization tactic for salarymen who don't want to wait
3D Model & skins: degenerate tier
Very pleasing to look at
You can check showcases on their youtube channel
NSFW intimacy scenes: meh tier
It's not like there's a lack of porn on internet anyway
Gameplay: alright
It's turn based tactical. It's engaging and sometimes challenging. To get 3 stars in all your mission, you will have to win without losing ally and finish within X rounds (usually 4 rounds).
The current main missions are calibrated for short fights rather than putting emphasis on sustain, especially if you have top tier DPS characters that can blow up the map. However, there's a mode that requires you to use all of your roster and there's no requirement for rounds or dead allies. You probably will need to use low tier characters to clear it and that might require balanced strategy (tank, heal, dps)
There are daily missions, and it's annoying to grind all of it.
Translation: shit tier
It's still mostly machine translated, but some parts seem to be properly edited.
There's some big translation problem that can affect gameplay: sometimes "action point recovery" is MTL'ed to "Behavioral Resistance"
Story setting: nice.
Think about the classic korean trope of "dungeon rifts opened on Earth and spread abominations. Those who slay the boss gain their power and become human gods"
Other worlds full of magic, fairies and elves were invaded by "abominations", so they fled to Earth and now there are immigrant elves and humanoids struggling with Korean life or going to high school at 200 year old.
Character personality: The characters yap A LOT. But when they're not glazing you, they can be fun and likeable.
Kalina the dark/swamp elf acts like a PTSD veteran grandma
Erneste the cheeky brat is an internet troll
Bella the priestess is a pure-hearted nurse who gets self cucked by her goddess who likes MC
Osla the barbarian likes to act brainless and crude
Plot: ok. Some like it, other are disappointed.
I personally skipped most of the stuff, because too much untranslated yapping.
Here's what I gathered with what I've read on their discord/reddit:
The MC killed a god on a fluke (he blew up his own head while the god was taking over him), making him the only human god in the East. Human gods and their waifu vanguards are the only one who can fight off abominations without being corroded.
Then there's an antagonist who goes around spreading abominations and opening rift in the middle of Seoul. Since you're the only human god in the area, it's up to you to chase and punish him.
The plot unravels in reverse so I'll just start by the ending revelations
The first human god(dess) had a tool to open and close rifts. She brought the refugees from other worlds ravaged by abominations and tried to unite everyone. Other people could become human gods with her help to kill abominations, and soon there were schemes and power plays between factions. When she refused to open rifts for others, they kidnapped her. They yeeted her from existence when they realized that opening rifts wasn't from her inherent power but from a tool.
The antagonist was the first human god's vanguard as he coincidentally met her after getting isekaied as a result of a cataclysmic fight with his father. He crafted the tool to open rift and they saved other worlds including his homeworld.
After the other human gods yeeted the first goddess, he became understandably very upset. (He hates all human gods, including the player) The hundred year old virgin archmage lost the love of his life, so he'd do everything to resurrect her.
He opens the rift of the first human god in Seoul to craft a tool with Earth's Heart (which was supposedly in her stash) to supposedly resurrect the first god (but it could also be used to destroy Earth by spamming rifts?). But he got bamboozled because it was actually his homeworld's heart (pranked by his sister). He opens a portal to his homeworld and chases after his sister.
MC chases the antagonist to the other world. MC coincidentally rescue a bunch of waifus, including the sister.
The sister guides MC towards the place where she stashed the Earth's heart, and they have a final showdown with the antagonist.
At the end, the first human god connect with the sister (who was also her vanguard) and request player's help to recover her body.
Aaaaand that's it for now. It's foreshadowed that the other human gods were up to no good as they wiped all informations about the first god with mind control. Maybe we'll have a pvp mode?
Meta: Ironically, the best character of the game is a fucking a robot knight. You can get him and his weapon for free in the current halloween event and max him at EX+++++ rank. (The event will be extended past 21 nov, don't worry if you're starting late)
The sexiest waifus like Lisandria and So Joo Hee are actually weak.
The current banner is Everett, and getting her is very helpful because with her EX weapon she's the best AOE damage dealer of the game.
The best single damage dealer is Ines if you get her EX weapon.
The best support who can give you more turns is Fammene with her EX weapon.

First thing you can do is go on setting and set a guest account.
You can reroll until you're happy, then you can link your account.
With this, you should be able to get Everett.
If you start now, the beginner rewards is enough to get Everett and Ex weapon for sure.
Banner characters:
Guys who ran the maths for the reward conclude that they get enough income to get guaranteed EX-rank pity for both character and weapon for new banners. Some say it's only guaranteed every two banners. I don't know.
P2W items:
There's not much. There are "personality traits" (passive boosts like +5% max hp) that can be transferred between characters with paid items. It's not 5% hp that'll fucking save you.
Skins:
Bruh, F2P might get one or two skins with the free butterfly currency at most. (don't ever spend your butterfly currency on anything else)
Controversies:
They are the devs from Last Origin. They abandoned ship to make Horizon Walker and they have allegedly overworked artists (to the point that a guy needed a surgery and had to retire from art allegedly). Last origin players advise caution when you commit anything in this game
Since it was just recently released, we might need to wait for a compatible port. However, the game is specifically designed to be played in vertical mode. On my Galaxy Fold, I tried playing it in tablet mode with the screen open, but the graphics became pixelated and stretched while keeping the vertical smartphone view, which worsens the experience. Playing it on PC would definitely be better.

Yeah, I realized that later. The possibility is there, but you really have to try hard to trigger a permadeath. I think it’s a marketing strategy targeting people like us, considering the advertising slogan is "Savor the risk." If it were easy to lose the waifu a salaryman invested his paycheck in, I’m not sure it would stand a chance. Whales want pay-to-win; they don’t like spending money only to lose everything.
That said, this is the closest thing to those fictional hellish gachas where MCs get isekai’d in manhwa.
