Yoho, everyone! How's your holidays? Good?
Anyway, Ai-chan needs your help, because Ai-chan needs variety. Ai-chan is designing a type of gamebook in memory of Joe Dever, who wrote the Lone Wolf series that Ai-chan loved very much and recently started playing again. However, it is not a medieval-type gamebook, but a sci-fi one similar to Bio of A Space Tyrant by Piers Anthony.
But a sci-fi space opera gamebook is not going to be complete without multiple types of ships. And so Ai-chan needs the help of all you kind authors and readers to design those ships. Basically we have two sides: The Trappist Empire and The Felmori Federation.
As the player, you're a young captain of an old ship of The Trappist Empire. On one of your routine patrols at the end of 24th century, you were ambushed by a detachment of the Felmori 2nd Fleet. You won the battle and managed to limp your way to the closest starbase, but found that you were cut off from the capital and all communications scrambled. As your ship was the most combat-ready of all the ships in your region, you were tasked with breaking the blockade so that you can deliver the intel to Stellar Command. With each battle that you win, you get Requisition Point, which you can use to 'purchase' new ships.
This is the ship you will be commanding. Please consider it as the template. You do not need to decide how many guns it has, Ai-chan just wants to know your philosophy for designing such a ship.
Name: Aerostar
Class: Aerostream-class Frigate
Role: Long-range Patrol Vessel
Description: Commissioned at the end of the 23rd century as the last and most advanced variant of the highly capable Aerostream class, it is now showing its age. Reduced to the role of patrol vessel in the fridge Hasta sector, its combat capabilities were stripped in order to keep it up to date with current technologies. It is one of the only two Aerostream-class still in service and another upgrade is unlikely to happen.
Faction: Trappist Empire
The design philosophy of Trappist Empire is Offensive Power, so it is good at dealing damage and hitting targets, in the system, it is identified as having high Battle Power. Its ships have minimal Shield Points and low Hull Points compared to the Felmori ships.
The design philosophy of Felmori Federation is Durability, so their ships generally have lower Battle Power but very hard to take down even when hit.
There are also other factions that can be encountered such as pirates and bandits, but their philosophy is up to you. Just remember that pirates are unlikely to have more power per ship compared to proper factions.
There are only 5 types of ships:
1. Corvette - Very small, very fragile. Pretty much expendable but they're very cheap, doesn't require specialized shipyards and is available in every port. They're also small enough that with Wolf Pack strategy you can bring 10 of them to gang up on a battleship.
2. Frigate - Designed as escort vessel for the larger ships. Good battle capabilities, but still quite fragile that just a couple shots from a battlecruiser can cripple or destroy them. Also gains advantage from the Wolf Pack strategy.
3. Light cruiser - A more durable form of the Frigate. It is capable of dealing damage and tanking damage but does not excel in either purpose.
4. Battlecruiser - Good battle capability and good durability. A 'tanky' ship that can take damage but is still quite fragile for its requisition cost. Benefits from Battleship Supremacy strategy
5. Battleship - The ultimate expression of a warship. It has good weapons and very durable. The only downside is that it is very big and may have to fight alone in very cramped battlefields. Benefits from Battleship Supremacy strategy.
This is a long-term personal project, so you won't see it up by next month or something like that. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at any time. Thanks in advance.
