How about splitting webpage for adult stories?

I know that this site is not mean for child, and the most of people here are mostlikely adults or teenager at most.

But I think it could have been better if the site could try to split the stories, like, say SYOSETSU, where normal stories and adult stories are split and not on the same page. Especially when I spot adult stories at Homepage, it's just... y'know?

Well, I know that this site is still relatively young, and not very big, like, say Whattap or Webtoon or even Royal Road. But considering the future I think the site might need to considering it at one point. ( to avoid some possible lawyer ambush )

At the very least please consider giving some alert, like NOCTURNE alert.

While I know that the most would just simply ignoring it, pretending they didn't see the warning. But hey, at least we tried to warn them of what awaits down the road. Wether they pay it any heed or not is up to them. It's their journey of life, their adventure, after all (LOL).

Anyway, that's just my suggestion.

Please tell me what do you think about it?

The only problem I would have with this is novels that are 95% normal, and then single mature chapters. I think that on syosetsu or something authors solve it by creating series copy with only 18+ chapters or something, so hmm

People exaggerate the number of adult stories on the front page a lot. They see one trend once in a while and it imprints in their memory. If Tony one day decides to focus on the mainstream instead of variety, then I'll obviously have nothing to say. But for now, it would limit the chances for many stories that do include adult content but aren't straight-up porn fanfics.

See, I think you are right. Many "smut" stories, basically use it as bait and switch, have a few sex scenes in the first chapters, and then move to the plot.

But, while it's very effective to some people, there are many people that are completly turned off by the advertising and the tags and won't give the story a chance.

I think most wouldn’t think there’s so much adult content on this site if some covers would have characters normally clothed and in less suggestive poses...

Personally, I've recommended the site to some people, and they've been a bit dissuaded by the adult content on the front page.
you can block genres on the front page. sh rrl and wn are not sites for kids :D

click bait illustrations are not unique to this site or webnovels though?? just watch , u ban r18 content and those types of covers will STILL be there :LOL:

It’s not about being child friendly. It’s about being able to open this site in a publish place/around people without being judged for opening porn sites in broad daylight. That’s what people will assume when titles like “Incest...” or “... are the best toys” will pop up in the latest releases list between the fantasy novel.

It’s not about BANNING it’s about filtering those out while still showing the novels that are mostly plot but have content warning because the 1-2 mature chapters in 100chapters. Besides, pornography in China is forbidden and webnovels there still gain traction without clickbait covers as a novel should impress with words not with the lack of clothes in an image.

And fyi it can work without clickbait. Just look at tapas and you will see no such covers, except you go to their r-18 section.

Keep your puritanism to yourself. Ok?

You can easily filter out the smut from your profile settings.

SH already bans covers that "show too much skin". If this is the problem then it's not a matter of content but of lack of moderation.

Also, the only reason I am in this platform is precisely because it gives all novels a "fair" chance regardless of content. If they decide to outright filter novels from the front page I might as well drop it for once. And not only me, many others would follow suit.
like, say SYOSETSU
what would happen is the same as with Syosetsu's adult platform. Mostly oneshots and straight up porn 99% of the times you see an interesting title

I agree with hyper to be honest. There should be some separation, there's lack of a better word, between the adult content of the site and the 'child appropriate' things, you know? I'm relatively new to the sight and my opinion is based off what I've heard others say and what I've seen on the homepage, so none of my what I saw is coming off me actually seeing anything inappropriate during my time here (other than a few series i've seen around on the homepage)

This is what i see when i picture "split the homepage" > . "Trending 18" . "Latest 18"

Or rather something like this >

Idk, some separation would be nice, but I don't want it to be too separated so other's writing the +18 ver. don't get their fair publicity. All authors are authors, and they deserve their fair share when it comes to publicity. That is my opinion.
Let me know what you guys think, and if we're on the same page here
And to solve the stories that aren't revolved around+18 content, but have a couple chapters of "+18" content, then provide this as a pop-up before you read the chapter.

And for filtering comments and such >

I'll go with what's in your screen right now.
There is 2 out of 8 novels on trending that are adult. 0 Have explicit or suggestive imagery or title.
I would argue that this is bullshit.

There are 5 adult novels on the most recent (latest) tab. Of which only ONE has a sex related title while NONE have suggestive imagery.

And to solve the stories that aren't revolved around+18 content, but have a couple chapters of "+18" content, then provide this as a pop-up before you read the chapter.

I completely agree to this. But then comes the other problem. Where does the line stand between just having the pop ups and getting the novel completely hidden? Is there an objective measure? or is it subjective and possibly unfair?
Secondly, Adult novels are not restricted to Sex and Smut. Violence, wording, etc should exist. I would argue it would be better to have the user define its rating on their profile as filter this on a PER USER basis rather then censor the whole website over bs.

Also, a user can also filter the Adult and Smut tags out of their user viewship, completely removing said content.
We need to understand that Latest is literally what was released last, many of the smut novels on latest are oneshots or thrown out porn chapters that, according to Scribblehub's own rules SHOULD NOT EXIST!

I can sit here and mention hundreds of such "novels" that have a single 3K word chapter that is pure sex from beginning to end.

Take https://www.scribblehub.com/series/262288/fertility-clinic-shenanigans/ for a CLEAR example, I saw this novel on Latest Releases for hours this week. I would argue that rather than that, hiding Adult Oneshots from Latest Releases is much more valid.

Ah... I remember my first exposure to Seinen... and smut. Kid me had cold sweats all over.
There was also that constant head turn to see if anyone was behind me to witness my fall from grace.
Didn't pay attention to the tags and just read it cause it was popular. There wasn't any segregation.

Ai-chan doesn't think it's the site's place to police what people want to read. Freedom of choice is the only freedom a person truly has. Are we China?

The OP said that Nocturn exist. Yes, nocturne exist. And you know what's on nocturne? Pure smut. By nocturne's standards, if Ai-chan has two chapters of explicit sex, Ai-chan should post it on nocturne. But what about the other 50 chapters without explicit sex? You probably think this isn't a problem, but this is a problem. Nobody goes to nocturne. The same will happen to www.smuthub.com.

We should spend less time and effort in trying to police what people read and spend more time on actually writing stories or providing an enjoyable writing/reading experience. We should become a non-judgemental website instead of an authoritarian website that decides what people should read and what people should not. If you're a human, you should be responsible for your own actions instead of asking the site to be responsible for you. If not, what's the point of having human rights? Might as well just throw away your own human rights and ask someone else to think for you.

Ai-chan, I somewhat agree with this statement, but I don't think separation will change the website in any harmful way to readers and writers. I just have a feeling this website will get big, and obviously more and more people are going to join and create accounts everyday. But that may be the issue? More people are going to be complaining about the covers of stories or the expliciticy of content than they are going to actually ignore it. I'm not saying wipe out +18 content completely or even put it on a different website, I'm saying it should be the writer's/reader's choice. There could be something in the settings that allows for the separation of content to content, of course I know about the filter, but I mean a <separation> between the two.

Ai-chan I went over this in the quote:

Sorry, Ai-chan didn't read your comment. Ai-chan was reacting solely on the OP's post because Ai-chan was in a hurry.

Thanks for your input, but Ai-chan is of the opinion that this feature is not necessary and may even be harmful to the site itself. Things may change in the future, when Scribblehub has grown so big that branching out would be necessary, but at this point, it's nothing more than censorship. There are people in the world who are fighting for freedom of expression and choice, and yet this request thread is akin to voluntarily asking to suppress freedom of expression and choice from Scribblehub.
