I don’t really like smut myself because I find it to be boring after a while. Like the excitement of reading the ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) scenes wears off at some point and when it happens every few chapters and it just feels boring. If I don’t like the plot outside the scenes the whole things sucks for me and if I do there’s tons of scenes I’m not interested in to get to them. And if I'm skipping chapters to get to the plot there’s a problem. I think it might just be a difference in preferences though. But what do you guys think about smut?

Just like any other type of work, it can be done right or wrong. Pieces that have plots just as an excuse to set up the smut like the works of Eric Vall (I think I've used him as an example before, but he just really works as a model to not follow despite his financial success, I suspect a legion of ghostwriters or just spam) tend to peter out because they end up failing on both ends. You'll find that someone who is bad at driving a long term conventional plot will also be bad at the relationship stuff that makes longform erotica good.

Smut novels? As in novels based solely in sex?... man, leave these things to the normies, I'll say.

For a less cringy response and as I used to write lemons (smut) for donator money, I prefer for my smut to be disjoined with zero connection to the last piece of erotica that I read, but that might be because I used to shove much of my former work into what I called a 'yellow book', basically an amalgamation of some of the stuff I've written over the years, be they commissions or events between characters of my stories.

As for how much it should happen in your regular story, I would say one ero-scene every 20ish chapters should be fine, with it being the 21st and each chapter was anywhere from 2.5k - 5k words long.
Well, I only ever read smut when I get horny, which is to say all the time. Like, there's that distinct itch in my crotch that screams "read smut."
Ya plannin' on going the way of the Eldari?

I prefer to keep my porn and my plot separate, but I can skip the steamy bits in a well-written smut if I'm not in the mood for it. If it doesn't have much value past the smut, then that's just lengthy PWP (porn without plot). I prefer PWP that's 10k words or fewer, though.

The problem is usually when a perfectly good action/adventure is ruined by adding smut (or non-explicit sexual relationships, especially as harems) late in the game. Maybe it's because of the long build-up, but suddenly every other character interaction has to remind you that yes, these two (or three...or five...) people are now sleeping together. I think that happened with World Teacher (JP WN) so I dropped it, but I might be thinking of the wrong story.

Something that should be institutionally forbidden, burnt and swept in to the sands of time by every public and private institutions to assure the sexual abstinence of a people, and by result their general health, and well being.

Depends on the frequency of the sex scene, I think. If the whole story focuses solely on sex, then it’s the matter of the repetitiveness of the sex scenes. Are they repetitive? Does it have the same partner throughout or are there other characters involved? Harem? Different kinds of interesting kinks?

Well, as long as it doesn’t get too repetitive, then it’s alright. Also, I think harem will help making it more interesting. Like you get to explore different characters—their preferences, what are they like when having sex, their real self, etc.

As for whether I like it or not, then I have to give you a solid “yes”. (C‘mon, dude, which man doesn’t like fucking?)

I like smut because it doesn’t censor the sex scene between the mc and his girl/girls—it always leaves me unfulfilled when the story doesn’t get to that part, almost the same as the agony of having to soldier through all the episodes of harem anime with the forever virgin mc.

If we're talking about straight up back to back smut scenes, then I probably won't read it when I'm not looking for smut.

As for when a story has both smut and an actual plot, I'm personally somewhat fine with smut scenes even if I'm just there for the plot.

I have read a lot, good and bad (mostly bad), smut novels and for me, its good if it manages to stand up on its own without the smut parts or the smut parts do have value for the smut novel's plot

Other than that, I like them, even the cringy ones. Because the thing is that I either feel cringe to the point that I'll laugh at it or horny, both would provide me a good time anyway so that's that

Never, I'll rather read fantasy/sci-fi/literally any other genre. I have nothing against it, but why should I read a subpar work with hamfisted smut and usually horrendous writing when I can go read a hentai manga, do my business and then read actually good content?

For me I like a strong overarching story englobing the smut. Basically like what I wrote. Breaking the mold and having out of the ordinary scenes in both the story and the smut is also important, otherwise I'd get bored and feel I've already read 100 slightly different variations of the same thing.
A big frustration is having a story where there ought to be smut logically, but it either doesn't happen or the narration is completely skipped because the other wants to market to kids or can't/doesn't want to write smut. "I can skip the smut on my own, it only wastes a few seconds, don't force my choice by not writing it" is basically what I'm thinking sometimes.
