I use Woke to refer to people of those said groups who want to force their beliefs on others. I agree that they should have their place in society, I just don't agree that they have a right to force themselves into other spaces, kind of the same way I don't agree 'christians' should be allowed to force themselves into abortion clinics etc.
I think it's best everyone just leave each other alone, those who want to practice inclusivity may do so and those who wish to practice exclusivity so long as they are not harming others and not using government resources, should also be allowed to do so.
I guess you could say, Woke and Bigot are the same, on opposite ends of the same curve.
Yep, and this is how I generally see it used on the net.
Leftwing is, well, anything generally covered under left-wing politics. Media can be left-wing and do it really, REALLY well.
Take ATLA. ATLA is leftwing as
fuck (literally the premise is, near-extinct Air Nomad travels across the world to learn cultural appreciation in the form of bending multiple elements and then goes and kicks the ass of the imperial oppressor known as Fire Lord/Phoenix King Sozin. There are also strong-as-HELL female characters in Katara and Toph with wonderfully diverse backstories, an amazing antagonist in Azula, cultural clashing with Toph wanting to rebel against the Bei Fong's traditions, oh and let's not forget GENOCIDE IS BAD. Like, literally ATLA says Don't Be Fascist. Does anyone complain about ATLA being woke?
NO THEY DO NOT. Why not? Because it's a damned good story that doesn't
need to snipe anyone to appeal to everyone. Oh and icing on the cake, Aang literally defeats Sozin by NOT KILLING HIM AND INSTEAD REMOVING HIS PRIVILEGE.
Edit: ALOK too, with the Korrasami ending. Also Not Woke, because those two had their journeys laid out over four seasons and we GOT to see them develop their bonds with each other. Yeah people complain about ALOK, but like 90% of that is because it's being held to the standard of ATLA which is Downright Unfair.
Star Wars IV-VI? That's left-wing too. Has anyone forgotten that Darth Vader's elite forces are literally called STORM TROOPERS? As in
Sturmabteilung, a paramilitary unit of Nazi Germany that literally
translates to Stormtroopers? Oh and they function like the
Schutzstaffel aka THE SS. Oh and how is Sidious defeated? By Luke Skywalker GIVING UP HIS "TOXIC" (traditional) MASCULINITY (conformance to social role) AND BEGGING FOR HELP. Not Woke.
And a fun anime one: Kuina in One Piece. She was Zoro's childhood friend and rival, who promised him that one of them will become the Strongest Swordsperson (Swordsperson is my edit). One of her pivotal scenes is crying and lamenting that
women are physically weaker than men which will severely get in the way of her ambition
. She then dies to an adversary the fanbase likes to call Down D. Stairs, which, okay I actually
dislike that part, but no one complains about One Piece being woke when it has characters literally fighting traditional gender roles (Kuina, Big Mom, Tashigi arguably), but also its central theme is PRO-FREEDOM, MILITARY DICTATORSHIP BAD (The Marines are a staple antagonist throughout) Still not woke.
Star Wars VII-IX. Rey Skyfucker. Woke. What
makes her woke? Let me count the ways: She out-technicians Han Fucking Solo ON REPAIRING HIS OWN GODSDAMNED STARSHIP with
zero experience on the matter. She teaches HERSELF Jedi Mind Trick in a cutscene UNDER DURESS, a feat of learning that is SO hyperbolic for the setting that it defies belief. But apparently The Force Is Female so she has magic sorceress powers. She manages to diss, sass, disrespect, and downright
insult said Luke Skywalker IN HIS OWN DOMAIN. Remember, that guy who
defeated the Fucking Empire the first time?! Oh, she also discovers how to TELEPORT OBJECTS ACROSS ARBITRARY DISTANCE USING THE FORCE despite this
never having been done before before! (This technique completely invalidates the plot of Rogue One btw) Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh and at the end of IX, she APPROPRIATES the Skywalker surname and NO ONE CALLS HER ON IT. Sequel Trilogy shat over
its entire foundation so that they can hit their key points of Woman Protagonist Is Goddess, and White Men (Han) Are Shit (gets showed up by a complete stranger in his own field).
The most insulting bit about all of this is Disney already DID Strong Female Protagonist RIGHT. When? Star Wars Rebels, featuring
Ahsoka Tano. Ahsoka is SO beloved a character that they brought her back in
The Mandalorian! Disney had
no godsdamn reason whatsoever to make Rey Palpathief and yet.
I've heard that
Lightyear, that Buzz Lightyear movie that was supposed to be why Andy has the Buzz toy in
Toy Story, completely made the titular character incompetent in service of their message that Diversity Is Good. From what I understand, rookies with different visual characteristics completely show up the trained and battle-hardened Buzz Lightyear to where he just basically apologises, gives control of the mission to them and boom solved. Which is moronic. If you wanted Diversity Good, you could have had one of them suggest an off-the-wall idea that is SHIT on its own, but Buzz sees something there, THANKS the rookie for the idea, and transforms it into something that DOES work because he HAS the experience needed to do that, explaining (NOT "mansplaining": he legitimately IS the SME and those rookies are his charges and part of his job is to help train them) to them where the original idea blundered and why, but more importantly why the idea is amazing and saved their skins. That would be kickass. But they decided to shit on him, and that's what makes it Woke.
I wasted far too many words on this. But the gist of it is, people don't believe Diverse and Woke to be the same thing, and treating them like they do is a really really good way to LOSE vital allies.
