I've seen really amazing covers on SH and I was wondering what sources do authors get it from. Some kind artists here take free requests when they're free and their art is really amazing! I was wondering if the authors make your own covers or had artists make one for you? Which artists would you recommend? What are your recommended sites? Please feel free to post the cover of your story! do some low key advertising:blob_whistle_two:
I also found these threads on book covers~ https://forum.scribblehub.com/threads/the-book-cover-boast-thread.131/ and https://forum.scribblehub.com/threads/book-cover-resource-free-online-book-cover-maker.307/

I just look around the interwebs until I find something, but then again, I'm likely not one of those with an amazing cover on my novels. >.>

But I really do like what @ars did with my signature. :blob_aww:

Regarding the paid side of this/buying art - Generally for art and covers, I get all of my art via HungryArtists on reddit. I make threads stating that I'm hiring, so that the artists message me, but there's a pretty good spread depending on how much $$ you're willing to pay for a cover. I've had excellent luck there, up to and including stuff I've used for amazon and paperback versions :) For a decent-quality cover to be used here and not being sold on amazon, I'd expect to pay somewhere between $50-150, depending on things like how many characters you have on the cover and how much of them is shown.

Just as an example - I had the art for my story Reverie done not so long ago, and as a two-character piece with both characters full body full color. Runs ~$150. The artist was absolutely great to work with and I highly recommend her. I also just like having high-quality art xD

Lots of money and stalking social media to find artists I like. I follow about 11k artists between Pixiv and Twitter, and then there are all the weeb subreddits I follow (which is what I found the artist for two of my stories through - somebody posting their art to a subreddit). Most of the artists I've worked with never even advertise commissions, but if you approach them looking to do business and are professional about it, there's a good chance that they're willing to do work for you as long as the price is right (read: wallet-hurting).

II draw it myself on a tablet, then modify it in Krita (used photoshop before), but my readers end up whipping me for wasting time making covers instead of writing chapters 😿

In my case, I made a montage on my own with some images found on the internet, while the logo was completely designed by me. Of course, I do have the advantage of knowing how to use Photoshop, but there are those who make simple covers for others, and there are even those who do personalized illustrations, although for a price, of course.

Lots of artists are very willing to do commissions if you just ask and it can get quite cheap depending on the style you want :) from my experience, theres enough artists that would go 15-30 per character (depending on full body or waist etc) or even cheaper if they want moneeeyyy :'D

Ai-chan made them myself! Then once Ai-chan got the images done, Ai-chan use Canva to make a professional-looking cover. Making the images isn't hard since Ai-chan is pretty good with photoshop. With Canva, the issue with what font to use and where to place them are greatly reduced.

If you're completely baffled by how to make your own, you can give Ai-chan the images you want to use and Ai-chan can make your book cover for you for free as Ai-chan is good with photoshopping nudes of hated enemies in the modeling industry. Please take note that Ai-chan will not search the images for you and Ai-chan won't be held liable for any copyrighted images.

For examples of Ai-chan's covers, look at Ai-chan's signature and in the first link the OP provided.

At first i thought about getting an artist to draw for me a cover, ppl recommended to me deviantart, but no one really fit to my liking, so i was like, screw it, im making it myself.... After many years the cover changed 8x times. The before and after difference is huge.

I made my cover art on sketch appp on my phone with my finger https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.sketch&hl=en_US

then used canva to turn it into a cover https://www.canva.com/

I used to use Fiverr for some old series I made on a different account but dropped them cuz I didn't like writing them at all.

I plan to use Fiverr again eventually to get my current series cover art redone because the artist I chose was really good. I bought the art from them with commercial use in the receipt so now I own the copyright. So if you use Fiverr make sure to get commercial use in the order. That way you own everything. I would also recommend only have them make the art then using canva to turn it into a cover because it can get more expensive otherwise.

Fiverr commercial art can be as low as 5 dollars or as high as 20 or 50 maybe even 100 dependon if you do a custom order or not. Also a lot of companies use Fiverr.

I recommend this artist as their really good and have made all the art I made money for. https://www.fiverr.com/leonel_anciani
