To add to what some others have said-even if you do write what is clearly and demonstrably a platonic friendship there will still be people who want/treat it like it’s a romantic couple, even if they are already in relationships with other people.

You should still treat it as a relationship, just not a romantic relationship. There should be ups and downs. Conflicts and resolutions. Write it like they're people.
