Did not realize I'd been doing this...

I think this is my problem with pornography in general - either the sex scene seems to just STOP the story altogether to show sex, kind of like a speed bump, or there never was a story, just sex.
And then there was the one I tried to watch that switched from one extreme to the other but was actually good at both, and it just gave me whiplash...

That's a serious issue I have with it, too. There are ways to integrate it naturally into a story. ...Hence, the episode.

For me, those who toss it in without thinking about these things are like those who just toss in a fight scene for the sake of a fight. It requires as much artistry as any other type of scene if it's done well.

To note, pornography's purpose is legitimately just sex for its own sake. It is gratuitous and often doesn't pretend to be anything but. If there is a plot, nine times out of 10, it's an excuse plot. I don't have an issue with that in and of itself, but I feel it helps to recognize the differences when it comes to the separation between pornography/smut and erotica.
