I am grateful, but who the heck is giving out these 5-stars ratings???

It is as if an obligation to have at the very least one 5-star rating for every new novels now and then, whether the content themselves are good or not.

I don't really know ScribbleHub and I don't surf around the site much, so seeing these just makes me a bit paranoid.

Like, sure, it might be that one guy who follows new authors and ask how they are doing and how's it going, but I dunno, just sticking this out there for people to (hopefully) give me an answer to this enigma I saw almost everywhere for the new novels I am piqued at.

I know someone who will constantly give favourite to chapters they read if there isn't at least one, just as a way to encourage the writer.

Perhaps some people do the same, but for ratings, and find the "Newest Story released" section, and go spread some positivity around.

As someone who is currently addicted (I hate myself for it) to monitor my stats like views, follows, favourites and reviews/ratings, I appreciate immensely whenever someone does any of those actions.

So if someone is blanketing good vibes all around? I think that's a beautiful thing and shouldn't be stopped.

You can tell by checking the Recent Readers part of the statistics tab, since you have to be a reader to rate a story.

Though the answer is probably just that someone saw a story with an interesting premise and wanted to encourage the author to follow through with it.

Norse is the one who gave you a 5-star rating. Don't ask how I know

Hold on u can do that!? how u can give ur own novel a stars?
Add your story to your reading list and give it a rating.
Easy as.
Now, whether you think it deserves it is another question. Most people do pat themselves on the back for a job well done, tho.

Royal Road does the same thing.
Oh wait, that's .5 stars.
It is funny how some people on RR just automatically disparages anything that isn't a LitRPG power fantasy on that platform. The community there is equal parts helpful and equal parts toxic, though I feel like it's also getting more and more unhinged as time goes on.

And I never noticed the automatic 5 stars, mine was unrated until I started to promote my SH page on RR. Maybe it is just a good samaritan going around spreading positivity. An act that I greatly approve of.

Be glad someone does.

In my opinion, amateur novels shouldn't have ratings at all. An argument could be made for likes and dislikes, reviews and comments, but not ratings. Ratings are a marketing tool and disgenious at that, and the amateur writer doesn't have a backing on the marketing team to manage everything, nor even the option to manipulate them as the large companies ofted do to bolster sales.

The Royal Road isn't LitRPG site.

It was created by the people with zero relationship to the LitRPG, or even a writing in general, as the cynical moneymaking scheme.

There is no reason for it to be LitRPG focused. This isn't advertised anywhere, except in the single guide written by the person who started the entire toxic behaviour with the whole competitive writing.

In fact, the users on the site downvote LitRPG power fantasies as often as they downvote the other genres for reasons which have nothing to do with the genre, and everything to do with the fact they could inflict damage by doing so without any consequences, either angering everyone, or to crush competition.

I'm new around the block so I wouldn't know much about the history of RR. But I think this is a good point.

Out of curiosity, I checked on the reviews of some of the top stories posted on that website, The Perfect Run, Mother of Learning etcetera. And the negative reviews on those stories are absolute nonsense, complete garbage with no real substance to it at all. One might wonder if these people have even read the story.

And based on some of the negative reviews that I've personally received there, it really does seem like there's a whole bunch of jealous a-holes running around with smurf accounts trying to bring down the competition just because they themselves were never good enough to achieve any sort of success. Or perhaps they were just warped from receiving a similar treatment in their work?

A lot of the .5 to 1 star reviews are just people cherry picking some minor, inane flaw a story has and magnifying it to make it seem like it's a bigger deal than it is. Oh? You have a female protagonist who had one empowering moment? Mary Sue! Everyone, we've got a Mary Sue here!

It's baffling really.
