So I've honestly skimmed a lot of this and many have provided you with help, but on a both related and unrelated note: this thread of yours makes me very happy to see. You've read something and, though it's for a negative reason (the story sucked), you're inspired to create your own tale to suit your own likes and wants. It's truly beautiful and is something I feel we all share as writers

I hope you do end up writing this story. A story obviously with changed details but a story nonetheless. Then, when it's finished, I also hope you can look back at this thread and say "this is why I did the thing" and be proud of what you did.

You've already got the right idea. Read other stories. Let them inspire you and trigger your creative juices. Write what you enjoy using those inspirations and references. And above all- create the story you'd want to read.
