I just quit my job. This time, I am going full in into writing. I have two more months of employment before me. And until then, I will make sure that I build up my pen names.

Customer service is hell. I am done with that melted fudge.

Also, after my last day of work I am never, ever, and I mean never, ever, going to speak German ever again.

good luck on that. Getting into any arts scene is horrendously difficult. That said, it CAN be done. Just... not easily. I look forward to seeing your works on shelves!

Also (forgive the horrible pronunciation, but...) "Ich lerne Deutsch. Deutsch is serh schonn! Ich liebe Deutsch!!"

What if you meet someone cute who thinks it's really adorable when you speak German?
I am asexual. I only find men cute when they are written in a story and are together with other men....

Nothing against the language, but the jobs I found with it stressed me too much. I'd rather forget all about the whole mess.
Good luck.
thanks!

Bad idea. But hey, you do you.
It'd work alot better if you married to a guy who could support your writing hobby.

And I'm speaking mathematically. Writing for money is a job, and jobs suck. You need to hussle 75% of the time leaving only 25% of your time for writing.

Do you have a client lined up? Have you checked out fiverr? Writing for money us about finding someone to pay you FIRST, then doing the job.

Your reputation is EVERYTHING in this business. You need to know your shiz COLD.

I would think commissions aren't the best way to make a living as a writer, lol. They're hard to get, especially with enough consistency to make 30k+ a year

A marketable web serial + the patreon model (or even amazon) probably supports more full time authors than commissions do, by I expect a large margin.

Of course, you need to be 1.) skilled and 2.) writing something the market wants.

But it's more than possible

Just going from personal experience.

You make money by:
Commission
Having name recognition
Donations from patrons

I did a boat load of ghost writing when I was between jobs. But those days are long gone. AI can do what we did at pennies on the dollar at about 50% the quality.

There's all sorts of paths to take when it comes to writing for money, true. But I think these days writing novels/web novels and using patreon and amazon is the most straightforward (and most likely) path to earning a living wage as an aspiring writer. Far less likely to be affected by AI as well

Was going to be the contradicting voice to say "don't quit your day job just to pursue being a writer."

Then I saw that you are working in CS...

Yeah, best to quit that.

Good luck have fun.

Good luck with the writing, brother/sister! I feel you!
I hope you do well and succeed on your terms!

No. You Don't.
Remember this:
Where ever you are, what country or place you wind up... Someone collects bills.

If you enjoy harassing people or hurting people, there is ALWAYS a place near you hiring bill collectors.
