I just got this idea and I had a little giggle alone in my room, so here it is for anyone who wants it :

It's a guy from the middle ages who lives a fulfilling life and dies, happily surrounded by his family. He thought everything was over, until he wakes up 600 years afterwards, in the body of one of his descendants, and with an idol system ! The system reads : Become an idol, or you will die !

But here's the thing : the MC used to be a scholar. And he is WAY too interested in this new situation and how civilisation develops ? Totally ignoring the system, he studies everything he can. But the system kills him and brings him to the beginning everytime, urging him to become and idol. The MC thinks "So... I can go back in time with all my memories ? It means I can study everything I want without any time constraint ??? That's so cool !"

The story is just the MC being excited about new things he learns, and the system desperatly trying to make him an idol

So, a guy who is supposed to go on an epic quest, instead elects to be stuck in a permanent "slice of life" time loop?
If I wrote something like that, I'd probably have the quest turn out to be something important to the world, something he NEEDS to do, and the world essentially ends (or perhaps each loop makes it last a little longer/be a little more pleasant because of what he learns - but he still does not stop the Bad Thing that will happen, he just postpones and lessens its impact each time).

That would surely be bigger, with more things at stake ! I wouldn't mind it, even though I'm a calm soul who desires calm stories

You would need some motivating factor to get him to do something other than just study.
If he has a system for being an Idol, then that would imply there are others with this system to compete against. Maybe some of them could cause him problems?

That would be fun ! Or the system is an entity like in 'Debut or die' who (big spoiler for those who didn't read the novel)

is an entity that is nurtured by chaos. The fact that he forced someone to be an idol is feeding him with all the emotions the host provokes within the fans. It used to be a system that forced people to be a cult leader, but quickly realized that the entertainment industry was far more interesting because you could have followers worldwide, and there's also the jealousy of other idol groups, the greed of people who want to exploit them, etc... Which produces a great deal of chaos and feeds the system so it can get stronger.
