Not only is this a reader issue, but also one encouraged and perpetuated by admins and mods.
...

I'm... Flabbergasted. Did nobody on that team engage their brain and realise that the majority of stories in the hetero "Romance" genre are also mindless smut?
While I personally think their stance on this is kinda dumb... If their problem are the labels "Yaoi" and "Yuri", why not just go with Gay Romance and Lesbian Romance respectively then? It's not a particularly mind blowing idea...

Rather, I'm surprised the initial suggestion was for Yaoi/Yuri instead of those... >.>

What is the actual average reader's age on RR ? Preteens who don't have WiFi and don't know what Pornhub is ? Why is RR so 'terrified'of sexual content ? Weird.

Or maybe just implement F/F, M/M, and F/M tags? "Lesbian" is going to have the same problem, and those labels might be a little uncomfortable to apply to all same-gender relationships.

It's about advertising, I think. Advertisers don't want to display their adverts on porn, so the site has to have little to no sexual content to be paid.

Those work too!

I used Gay Romance and Lesbian Romance because I think they're how those novels are usually called in western bookstores and what not? In all honesty I'm not sure because I never tried searching for the genre outside of digital media, so that's just what I thought they would be called.

But yeah, if the yaoi/yuri genres don't cut it, just using any synonym should... >.>

I agree that not all same sex relationships aren't properly covered by those 2 though~ (and it could get particularly hard to pick a tag if it involved non-binary characters and stuff)

That's what the LGBT genres are generally labelled in online stores. M/M and F/F and sometimes M/F/F or M/M/F for polyamorous relationships.

It's about advertising, I think. Advertisers don't want to display their adverts on porn, so the site has to have little to no sexual content to be paid.

Good thing I left then.

I agree that they could've had a different suggestion term, but the implication of the admins was that they considered the issue holistically and decided distinguishing non-heterosexual romance in general was too implicative of porn, instead of just yuri or yaoi.

F/F, M/M and such tags would have been judged as "similar" and disqualified all the same.

Not saying you're wrong, but I prefer to think people have mostly good intentions and the adms of RR just made an uninformed decision due to a bad bias they had as they did not know anyone that actually read novels with same gender relationships.

I mean, I could be wrong, but I prefer to try thinking of the best in each person... >.>

Certainly hasn't much to do with Mirroring your content from your own site.

If you want to see a hijacked thread, try this one.
Ah yes, how can we forget that one. The one that represents all hijacked threads. The one for the history books. The one for the memories. The one to surpass Metal Gear.
