Hey there, Yorth here, your standard writer. As far as I can remember, my only experience at drawing is doodling on the side of my notebook pages in physics class. That's it. I never posted anything on deviantart, I never worked on my fundamentals, I never learned how to draw these beautiful backgrounds or majestic dragons, none of that. I just drew ikemen faces over and over and that's it.
So, this very mediocre me decided what any other mediocre artist would one day on a whim. I'll draw a manga! And so I did, no matter how trash it looked at the end. I decided to go with something of a NaNoWriMo format. I gave myself one month, ONE MONTH, to finish the whole thing. I had to learn everything, EVERYTHING, from scratch. Hands, feet, clothes, movement, background, effects, swords, weapons. I needed to work on all of those areas at the same time so that I could present something at least readable at the end.
And I finished it.
No matter how trash it looked, I did what I told myself I'm gonna do. By the end of the month, I had a full 14 pages manga. I had never been more proud of myself. The feeling of finishing something that you've worked on for so long is something I have a hard time describing.
Anyway, moral of the story, set up goals and achieve them. No matter how impossible they may look, no matter how crazy they may sound, you can still do it. We, humans, have this very weird ability to bring more of ourselves when our back is on the wall. I never learned how to draw, I still did it! You can do it too! No matter what type of excuse you give to yourself—"Ah, I'm too bad at drawing", "Ah, I'm not talented"— NO, I say that even YOU can do it. Give it a try. Set up a realistic goal. Just 10 pages, in one month. DO IT! JUST DO IT!
