I am thinking of writing an Esports related novel, I have the basic storyline and the flow setup, but don't know what kind of game to use. I don't want to use MMORPGs as they are not "Competitive" according to me, I was thinking of something like Valorant or CSGO, a 5v5 or 6v6 or like a team based competitive game, I can make it an ability based fighter something like Nintendo Super Smash Bros but with a team. I am kinda conflicted, as to hype things up I also need to show some in game action.

If I use Valorant or CSGO, should I make a different name for them, like Counter Operation : Encounter for CSGO or Mystiqal for Valorant?

I think koreas way too ahead of you but I don't think it should matter since games tend to be reference in any media. But to avoid getting pressured, just go for the latter one instead.

Already ahead of you. As to your question, MMOs are the most common, although you could potentially do whatever you want.

You should make up your own game. Otherwise your readers are definitely going to say you suck at the game and what you write about the game is wrong and that your game knowledge is noob-level (however accomplished you actually are in the game).
I should warn you that serious competitive game story isn't going to be popular. LitRPG readers are terrible gamers that fantasize about being good at games by being unique; becoming special as they completely ignore the established META and end up becoming better than everyone at everything. Because only the MC works hard and everyone else sucks.
Also, I recommend "Classmancer". It's a novel about playing competitive MOBA written like a shounen sport anime.

While this is generally true, I think the premise has a chance to become popular if the MC was a regressed pro gamer that returned back to when the game was still new.

Just use the game you're most familiar with and change the name if you're planning to monetize your work.

If your main character never uses a racial slur while playing a game or gay ERPs when playing an MMO then your main character is not a true gamer. Simple as.

"Shounen Sports Anime" that's exactly the kind of vibe I am going for, and I will surely check out "Classmancer"

I am thinking of doing something like most Valorant pros went through, started off with CS, weren't successful, switched to Val when it was new, and Bamm, they are popular af now
Make your own game.
That's what I am thinking ofw

Make your own game and then have that said game’s popularity be somewhat because of the porn

If you just want to write a fanfic, it's fine to use existing games. It's not legal, but nobody will bring you to court over it. Except for those whose IP owners clearly stated that they don't allow unauthorized fanfiction. But remember, you are writing fanfiction, and so you cannot make money from your story.

If you ever intend to make money from it, just change enough about the game so that it is not readily apparent that it's the same game. Ai-chan's story Age of Gods Online was based off Dominions 4. But Ai-chan changed enough so that not only you have to customize your gods, you also have to customize your minions and the elements are different. So if a lawsuit ever comes, they won't get anywhere as there is no real similarity between the two. Inspiration does not break copyright or trademark law.

Thanks for your suggestion

If I use a shooter, then what in game action should I depict?
Sorry for the late reply mate. The most popular esports for fps games tend to be based around CSGO (counter strike global offensive) Rainbow Six Siege, and Battle Royale games.

I don't know much about battle royale games but CSGO is a game primarily about terrorists vs counter-terrorists. The terrorists having to plant a bomb and the counter-terrorists having to stop them and defuse the bomb if it's planted. There are a lot of complex strategies for a somewhat simple game like csgo so If you want to base your writing on it I'd suggest checking out some guides or videos. Warowl makes from real newbie csgo videos if you'd like a recommendation. But generally, what you need to remember is there is no respawns in csgo, and you buy better weapons with money earned depending on well you performed in the previous round, the first team to get to best 16 out of 30 wins.

Rainbow six is a game about hostage rescue, which uses heroes a lot like a MOBA game or overwatch. Each character has a unique skillset and selection of gadgets like a place-able turret or remote-control drones, or cameras. I've never played it so I can't give much comment.

Yeah, I was thinking Valorant as it also adds that complexity of Agents and different utility kits, and instead of warowl I think watching proplay would be better

RTS games have a few series. there are also a bunch of otome games. Anyways make you own game because maybe you could get it made later. I say this because I am working on a game from my story ;)

You could go full fantasy with it, have a 5v5 esports in VR where the players pilot giant mechs or something.

Yeah (Oh My Gawd, The Author Of My Favorite Novel On This Site Replied To Me, God Damn!!) but mechs aren't my cup of tea, but might try that as well
