I never thought I'd come and witness myself actually playing the underrated beginning of the PERSONA series, oh well, since this is on the same wavelength as Megami Tensei—I am ready for it! SO first of all, I started PERSONA by playing P3, and what can I say—I was deeply amused by its combat mechanics, the story had me glued to the screen, and this new type of JRPG pulled me from the world of cliches.

I've actually started playing P1 yesterday and the OP, OST, and mute-VA cutscenes were pretty brilliant. It isn't an overreaction, so to say, it was the truth—even though it's already old enough. The types of equipment were expensive and scarce, there are SP-regen when walking (but is difficult to do from open-dungeons because of the encounter rate), there are no quests indicator so you'll get lost if you don't read the dialogues, there are guns that went unto P5, and a literal contact feature where you can talk to a lot of monsters and find hilarious conversations.

And while it is easy to get lost, it is also easy to get used to the map, although, some dungeons will 100% confuse you—so walkthroughs are a necessity.

I haven't even finished the game yet, nor has entered the snow queen quest, but I already have a lot to say. I'll definitely come back to this thread after I finish the game.

EDIT: I am on EXPERT difficulty, I can't change it, but I can at least show my saved data.
Screenshot 2021-05-23 071121.png

I already have the best weapons from the CASINO (don't tell me how much I wasted on gambling), and I've been doing auto-weapon because of how broken the weapons are—usually at this point in Mana Castle, there is more MAGIC null than WEAPON and GUNS so it is a really good place for me to grind. Other than that, the EXPEL is cool—I am expecting to use it in every boss battle. I can't also get any monster cards because I am under-leveled, and even though I can kill them with weapons so easily.

In Mana Castle, I am in front of the final door grinding (lmao). Seriously, the grind must continue, and if I get ambushed then I'll just escape. In addition, I am maxing DEX (more hit), AGI (more speed and evasion), and LCK (avoiding ambushes while having a preemptive strike) because they're so significant! DEX and AGI not only boost their respective points to hit and speed but to others too.

guns that went unto P5
If you ignore Maya and Katsuya in the P2 duology, yes, but guns were their main weapon so this still generally applies.
but is difficult to do from open-dungeons because of the encounter rate
Gotta love those high encounter rates, am I right?

Also that line about a walkthrough is far truer than you believe. Between some of the lategame dungeons and no tutorials for the contact system unlike P2 did, have fun. Also Megido skills pretty much break the game against most enemies unless you're two specific bosses, or an enemy that blocks/drains/repels magic attacks.

Also seriously, get a guide if you're planning to do Snow Queen. You'll need it.

It ain't actually bad. I think the encounter rate is too normal, and it doesn't stand a chance against Bravely Default's 100% ER. In addition, there are clean salts to mitigate the ER depending on if you're 1up from the monsters.

To be honest, I thought the ER would be pretty annoying and broken. Maybe I am already used to ER's due to playing too much JRPG.

Yeah, I can already tell that much. Also, I have a contact guide for every single enemy, so not a problem.

Also Megido skills pretty much break the game against most enemies unless you're two specific bosses, or an enemy that blocks/drains/repels magic attacks.
I am testing out EXPEL skill against every enemy, and it seems pretty good too. Might actually get a lot of all-foes Megido items to attach on my persona's.

Also seriously, get a guide if you're planning to do Snow Queen. You'll need it.
Don't worry, I am far prepared than what you expect.

Deva Yuga is considered the final ending if I were to go unto the bad ending, but I didn't, so there is still one more. The fight wasn't anything extraordinary—his first form had the littlest damage... and this is the EXTREME difficulty? I literally spammed weapons and guns at him which sealed the deal. His second form was no better, still spammed Heavy Nuclear, Guns, and Weapons while having someone spam Full-Heal (all allies) magic. Left it in auto to get a drink, and after getting back to it, the battle has ended.

I'd say, Persona 1 isn't so hard after all. Maybe I was scared because of Megami Tensei's difficulty, but this isn't the end. There might be some boss that will prove troublesome than what I have fought so far. The scene before this made me realize a lot of things, and so did after the fight.

No matter what... the story really is so good. It's really true that this is the reason the PERSONA series has grown larger.

I finally finished the GOOD ENDING on EXPERT mode!

Holy fuck! Pandora has so much health with the most powerful BUTTERFLY STORM... seriously, 15,000 health is too big for LVL 60- party that has literal damage of 150-400 (weapon) and 200-500 (magic). However, it didn't matter, either way, it did take 40 minutes for this EXPERT difficulty fight but I've beaten her on the first try! The first phase proved nothing, but this second phase is going too far... 5,000 to 15,000 with two forms and the Blue Hair is the only form that's easy to take advantage of. Hmm... well, it is the final boss, after all.

It was also that I never had any ULTIMATE PERSONAS because I was under-leveled for it. So, I went on with my optimized persona builds and brought a lot of clean salts, full heals, ailment cures, and nuclear items to end the game easily.

Anyway, I am on to the Snow Queen QUEST! Time to bring out my walkthroughs, this shit is going down too. After this, I'll play Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne and Persona FES on PS2 and Persona 2 Innocent Sin on PSP.

@BlissyMKW
You did Nocturne, right? Do you have any advice? I literally just started the game, even though I am still playing Persona 1. I only have minimal experience due to the internet exposure of gameplays, but maybe you have some fair share of something to say? Oh yeah, what about P2 IS? I'm actually starting that first before I go to Nocturne.

Yeaaah, Pandora is not a fun time. So, in my playthrough, for the sake of the recording, I offscreen grinded everyone so I could get their Ultimate Personas (I also did it for Snow Queen and that was honestly worse because Elly's Ultimate Persona is Level 63 yet it's a physical attacker so it kinda sucks), and even with spamming Hieroglyphian every turn on MC (who's had 99 in the stats that mattered), the fight still took 10 minutes in the second phase alone. Blue hair form can go die in a fire, but at least the mercy is that both forms share HP.

Also Butterfly Storm can be reflected by Magic Mirrors...not that you can predict when she'll use it, so you just have to be prepared for it.

Do you have any advice?
Now, I'm going to note right away I played the PS2 version, AKA the version without skill inheritance. I also don't classify myself as an expert on this game, so some of my advise might not exactly be the picture of good. With that disclaimer aside...

  • Depending on the ending you're going for, you can realistically get away with running a magic build. Demi-fiend may get a lot of physical skills, but magic is still viable, unless...
  • If your goal is True Demon Ending, run a phys build because Pierce. Lucifer has innate resistance to everything, and Pierce and Focus only work on physical skills. Along with that, if you're playing the remaster, Dante/Raidou gets a skill that gives them Pierce. In the PS2 version, Dante does not have Pierce.
  • This is my own personal opinion, but even if you plan on running a magic build long term, have a phys skill on hand. There are enemies that block/repel most magic attacks in lategame.
  • Buffs and debuffs are your friend, especially in boss fights, and similar to Minotaur in SMT IV, you'll learn quickly you need buffs to survive bosses.
  • You can do the Kalpas without doing True Demon Ending, but getting any further than the first room in the Third Kalpa requires you to fight 3 Fiends first.
  • Enemies in the Kalpas can't be recruited.
  • When you get the Nirvana Magatama (pretty sure you gotta buy it), try to get Divine Shot. It's a good phys skill that only Demi-fiend can learn and despite it's power, it's HP cost is pretty low at only 13% (at least according to this skill list I'm looking at at the time of typing this, can link if you desire)
  • Use a guide if you plan on doing the Puzzle Boy minigame for the reward in Asakusa. Like, seriously.
  • Be glad this isn't Strange Journey with it's teleporter maze hell sections.
  • I would honestly suggest getting Fog Breath on Demi-fiend and keeping it (penultimate skill on Wadasumi, can be learned at Level 21 or higher)
...and that's all I can think of. I used a guide when I played for the first time, so...you know.
Oh yeah, what about P2 IS?
Seeing as you're playing the PSP version, let me just say...Fusion Spells. They break the game. Use them all the time. This game at least gives you a tutorial on contacts, so do it because you get a couple of Tower cards for free. Yes, you need to collect tarot cards from contacting demons for fusion this time. Otherwise, the PSP version has a track record for being easier than the PS1 version, but it's the only officially localized version we got internationally so...yeah.

I don't remember any jerkish parts with this game except for one. Let your party handle their own problems when prompted except Yukino. Do not pick a certain option or else bad things happen and no Durga. I won't say what it is because it's a plot spoiler, but just be wary when the choice comes up.

I didn't have Elly at my party, which I think wouldn't make any difference, I guess. Moreover, I kept spamming Heavy Nuclear items every time it switched to blue hair... the red hair is the shit one because I can't give it a lot of damage. I had to wait for it to change to blue hair so I can burst magic attacks. But yeah, no Ultimate, Expert diff and under-leveled... I guess it'd make sense that the battle would take 40 minutes for me.

Anyway—for SQQ, I just finished the Hypnos Tower and have started grinding in the Devil's Peak for PLVL and cards so I can get Heavy Nuclear and Full Heals. The time limit ain't that bad—I tried going for the hardest tower right away but losing persona when dying and enemies spamming death magic is ten times harder than the final boss. I'll go for the easiest-hardest tower and grab a lot of clean salt before entering Thanatos.

Damn, thanks! Any advice is worth noted and respected. I won't press for more details, I'll figure all of this on my own. I'll be going for the hardest difficulty, so it'll be a lot of grinding and strategy planning.

Other than that, if the Nocturne Remaster is coming this month, I'll switch to the remaster immediately! I never actually realized its release date was May, so I decided on going PS2—the balanced version... lmfao.

Doing Thanatos Tower requires a combination of grinding before starting SQQ at all, getting some tablets from the casino and fusing up a few Personas, and a ton of luck. There are certain enemies who will literally slaughter your underleveled party (and I mean, like Level 20) in literal seconds, especially Yukino since she has no Persona when you start because the candles, so you need to talk those enemies away and pray to whatever mythilogical figure you want that they leave and don't stick around. Your goal at the start is to get to the shops on 3F and buy new armor, hopefully getting a couple of levels on the way without half your party losing their Personas.

And unlike the main story, having Lilim, who blocks magic, doesn't make it a cakewalk because Expel and Miracle skills still exist, and enemies can just use regular attacks to kill MC. Also only two of your party members (or one, but I never took Nanjo so I don't know) have guns, so you can't just guns your way out of everything, either.

As one who went through the nightmare of "do Thanatos Tower first" (and died 6 or so times, one of which I was literally right in front of the armor shop, got an encounter, and died), it was not fun...but if you want all 5 Ultimate Persona totems, you have to do it first. It's physically impossible to get 5 Ambrosia otherwise. The most you'd get is 4 if you do Nemesis Tower first. Since you already did Hypnos Tower, you're only going to get 3 Ambrosia, one for each tower.

Before this, I had everything—casino weapons and bullets, yeah, I got them. Other than that, I forgot to contact monsters for cards which meant that I couldn't fuse up whatever shit and slap any good items to teach it a lesson. Some monsters in there are pretty weak to magic, and some to weapons—but gambling to beat them with weapons is like having a MONK job in front of a boss battle. Then again, even if I fuse up persona's, I won't be able to level them up because Devil's Peak F1 doesn't have any ER—which is dumb!

So yeah, Thanatos requires a lot of things before someone can handle the crap in there.

I am thinking of having Lilim, so I can switch if the boss is weak to weapons and guns because there is a hundred chance they'll attack with magic instead of doing melee.

I am actually never going to forge any ULTIMATE PERSONAS, as I did in the main route because I don't think they'll be necessary at all. I'll just get some optimized build for the final boss and I can do the rest with ease. I was thinking of doing the Thanatos Tower because I was too confident to think that I could survive inside the most complicated tower—yeah, dying a lot taught me a lesson.

What I did for grinding was farm MC to Level 19 at Mikage Hospital using the free heal spot near the end since after everyone leaves the party when you return to the school and rejoin the party, they're autoleveled to MC's level. This also applied to Maki at the end of the second Lost Forest visit...but at the time I didn't know that so I could've done a grind session and Maki would've needed less levels. I also got a very particular set of cards to make the Personas I needed to not get slaughtered...well, on the attempt I didn't get murdered 99.9 ways to Sunday.

some to weapons
Weapons are like paper cuts to Thanatos Tower enemies unless your name is Reiji Kido...but he's locked out of Snow Queen.

I did that exactly, but only up to level 15.

Reiji's a lucky fellow because he wasn't at school that morning—he was in a different world.

15's not good enough, especially if you're playing on the hardest difficulty, where enemies get more health. You'd only be Level 17 by the time the Velvet Room is open, and having those extra stat points does make a bit of a difference.

He has his priorities straight that day. Demon attacks are the perfect time to kill your half brother.

True enough. I got too impatient I went ahead with 15, thinking it was enough.

Use Heavy Nuclear.

Next - Infested Ice Castle

I've finally beaten the three towers with ease. More than that, I'll be grinding and getting better persona's—but the higher the persona's level, the more SP it uses, so I am still thinking about it. Maybe I'll keep using the weakest persona I have—level 30 and below. I have every best equipments, weapons, guns, and bullets. I have Liftoma, Estoma, and Traesto for dungeon purposes... although, Traesto doesn't work on Main Dungeons—only in Devil's Peak!

As for usual, I am putting all my stats to DEX (2) and LCK (1) first before doing AGI (2) and LCK (1). My persona's doesn't have anything interesting, other than that they have Megidolaon, L.E.S, and Mediarama (I have 99 heavy magics and full heals for all allies/all enemies). I also realized that the final boss has three forms (has some skills similarity with SEBEC final boss) with 15,000 shared health... which means, the battle will take long again.

There is only the final boss left and the final dungeon! Get ready, Queen Asura, it is time you take the cold heat.

And after this... Persona 2 Innocent Sin.

ENDING SCENE

Wow! Nyx is totally powerful than Pandora... I went ahead under-leveled with trash persona's and got demolished with 3,000 damage given. After that, I found out that Elly's and MC's ULTIMATE persona's have the best damage against the final boss; the Deathbound and Heiroglyphein. So, after a long 30 minutes of grinding, I finally had them equipped and was already level 55+.

I know I wasn't going to do it, but it was gonna take so long if I kept being stubborn. There weren't any Miracle items either, so it was for the better.

I ran across the hordes of monsters and went to defeat the final boss battle again. Yet this time... I literally auto and the game ended for 5 minutes because of the Heiroglyphein (600 dmg) and Deathbound (800 dmg + increase attack dmg)... well, I had Brown equip Lilim so he couldn't die and kept healing the entire party. Nevertheless, having the MC's UP didn't mean I wouldn't die immediately, in fact, the final boss can cast a deadly all-foes magic attack two times—which was enough to make my MC eat shit. It was only when it was in its central head form, though, so the rest were fine.

The SQQ never had any incense, or rather, it wasn't easy to get. Especially when using SP incense actually fully recover a character's SP, and it goes with VIT incense. I wanted to use the trick for the final boss battle, but it was hard trying to find the right material to exchange it.

The dungeons in the SQQ are far fucking sadistic than what I expected... confusing, waste a lot of time, and make you fight enemies that don't give you enough EXP. Seriously, the final dungeon... just who the fuck created it? Anyway, I bet there'd be in P2 too.

Persona 1's story is pretty amazing! It doesn't have any bad points to it as I can remember, but after Bravely Default and MUSICUS!, this one gets my approval too! It isn't everyday you see a game with good mechanics and story... like for example, Trials of Mana and the Atelier series had good combats but their story lacks a few interesting stuff... and most definitely is SHIT!

Moreover, I feel so tired and out-of-focus now.

But... it is time to finally play Persona 2!

Main Character - Hero Mono

Persona

Equipment & Stats

The others are self-explanatory as their stats aren't randomized and automatically focus on certain primary stats. Their personas aren't much to be said either, aside from Elly. Yukino, Yuka, and Brown are just slapped with a random persona that has Megidolaon in it. Elly had a powerful self-persona which with a deathbound can erase an entire army—excluding weapon null and resist.

This is all I can share! Now then, this thread has been completed by HandsomeProtagonist! See me on a new gaming discussion thread lmao!

Funny thing about Queen Asura, really. If you go in with Personas that drain Element and Force, you literally can't lose. Just spam guns and you'll win eventually. It's very slow and very cheap, but it works. Avenger on MC (and Brown, I guess), despite having low damage, is useful with those 7 hits.

A maze with tons of stairs and encounters along with items in rooms, and if you want to go back and fuse up some new Personas, you get to go through again. Someone at Atlas was really on a sadistic streak that day when making the Ice Castle.
Bravely Default
Good game, but the whole "refight 4 bosses 4 more times for the true ending" thing is incredibly awful. The optional Asterisk bosses were cool, but still wasn't worth redoing the crystal bosses over and over again. I mean...at least we actually got non Asterisk bosses unlike what I've seen in Bravely Default II so far.

Ah yes... the 30-minute auto. I know that.

The good thing is that there is a Save, Healing Room, and Velvet Room in 9F.

I was grinding my levels up there and went to contact demons to fuse up Judgement and Emperor. I thought I had to go back down again, but that wasn't the case.

Haha... the Monk/Dark Knight is one of the OP hard hitter combined with Monk/Spiritmaster—so fighting the bosses again and again wasn't a problem in the hard mode. Bravely Default II had the least difficulty—it was so easy I can't believe how much the sequel has changed from Infuriating to Relaxing.

I did a thread about Bravely Default/II... I forgot.

I finally decided to record the final boss battle of SEBEC and SQQ, but I haven't finished exporting my SQQ final battle so here is the SEBEC one.
Here you go!
