Windows 98 definitely brings back nostalgic memories for me too. The classic interface and those iconic startup sounds really defined that era of computing.
I feel even older because my first computer was an og Mac my dad had with a double floppy disc boot drive. It wasn't until 2007 that my mom gave me use her old laptop, which had windows 98.

Shitpost novel premise that's probably good:
Title: Let Me Solo Her... In Another World?!

Premise:

In the dark, claustrophobic embrace of his tiny apartment, lit only by the eerie glow of his monitor, Kazuki Tanaka, known in the online MMORPG realm as "Kazekage," harbored a singular obsession. A notorious mid-boss, *Lira the Enchantress,* haunted his every waking thought. She was infamous for being nigh-impossible to defeat solo, yet Kazuki, with the blind tenacity of a moth to a flame, dedicated his existence to conquering her alone. His battle cry, "Let me solo her," became both a mantra and a meme among his peers.

Kazuki's life, if it could be called that, was a monotonous cycle of caffeine-fueled grind sessions and futile attempts at downing Lira. His health deteriorated as rapidly as his game skills honed, and one fateful night, after a particularly grueling marathon session, Kazuki's body finally succumbed to the abuse. He collapsed, keyboard still under his twitching fingers, and drew his last breath in a haze of virtual particles and Lira’s mocking laughter.

Death, however, was not the end. In a twist that only the cruel gods of irony could script, Kazuki found himself reincarnated into a world that mirrored the game he knew so intimately. The sky was a familiar shade of pixelated blue, the monsters roamed as they did in his quests, and the villages looked like they had been directly ripped from his computer screen. Yet there was one significant difference: Kazuki had arrived ten years before the game's storyline began.

Stripped of his player status and thrust into the role of an actual inhabitant, Kazuki—now simply "Kaze"—retained all his memories and skills. His obsession with Lira burned brighter than ever, but the woman he sought to vanquish was not the sinister mid-boss yet. Instead, she was *Lira Delacroix*, a powerful sorceress just beginning her descent into darkness.

Kaze's mission was clear: defeat Lira before she could become the scourge of the game. He scoured the land for clues, gathering allies and mastering the nuances of real combat. In his relentless pursuit, he encountered Lira, not as the malevolent enchantress, but as a young woman, brilliant and fiercely independent. Their encounters were charged with tension, Kaze’s barely concealed vendetta clashing with Lira’s growing curiosity about this enigmatic warrior who seemed to know too much.

What Kaze didn't anticipate was the person behind the mid-boss. Lira, far from the ruthless character he loathed, showed him kindness and wisdom, and a relationship began to bloom against the backdrop of impending chaos. Kaze’s obsession morphed into a more complex bond, as he found himself drawn to Lira in ways he couldn't comprehend. The very notion of "soloing her" took on a different, more intimate meaning.

Kaze now faced a dilemma. He was bound by his old life’s drive to destroy the villainess, yet confronted with the burgeoning affection he felt for the woman who had yet to become the monster. The lines between love and hate blurred as Kaze grappled with his emotions, realizing that perhaps the true battle was not to defeat Lira, but to save her from her destined path.

With the clock ticking towards the start of the game’s storyline, Kaze must navigate a labyrinth of quests, guild politics, and his own conflicting desires. His journey becomes a race against fate, where the stakes are no longer just about conquering a mid-boss, but rewriting the very narrative of their world.

Will Kaze manage to avert the dark future and forge a new destiny with Lira, or will his obsession ultimately lead them both to ruin? In this tale of second chances and unexpected romance, Kazuki Tanaka—now Kaze—must discover if he can truly "solo her," not through combat, but by fighting for her heart and soul in a world where the game is real, and so are the consequences.

In windows 98, just click cancel and you are in. Though only with local computer access.

I remember when Moses used his beyblade to split the sea.
