So I've been pretty confident, writing my story, that all the NSFW scenes in my book are consensual and above age . . . until today. When I remembered about a particular flashback scene sitting in my outline. That is INTEGRAL to a certain character's development. Um. Basically (underage) character A walks in on (underage) character B having a non/dubcon with (Douchebag/Cannon Fodder 9000) Character C. So this isn't a romantic pairing or anything. Just a sad, sad backstory. I'm pretty sure I've read backstories that are similarly noncon and underage on SH. But how graphic can I make it? I don't want to host a chapter on a different website.

Additionally, and out of curiosity, if your world takes place in a historical setting where characters are getting married at 16 etc, does that 18/year old rule still apply? Can you do implied scenes, w/o graphic content?

Age of consent is 18+. If there is no consent involved, then you have nothing to worry about.

As for characters getting married before 18 years old... I'd suggest maybe only implying things happened instead of graphically depicting it in that case.

I think it was, the rules are the rules but if there are reasons for breaking them, it's acceptable?
Like, if it is important to your character's story that they are married at X, it will probably be allowed
As for sexual content, maybe keep it mostly implied and not explicitly written :blob_hmm:

There were discussions about this before and if my memory isn't shitting me (I just woke up) it is: "...as long as you are not glorifying the act...". I'd look for those threads (about this topic), but I believe discovering that rule is a better idea. It is floating around here somewhere on the website. :blob_hide:

Erm. Yeah I just hastily posted this thread out of worry. If you know where the other threads are hanging, I'd appreciate being directed to them.

Age of consent here in continental Europe is 14, under the right circumstances even 13. So do you what you want.

The only thing you have to worry about is being persecuted for child pornography but less ethical boundaries, and maybe scribble hubs in house rules which are based on American perceptions of morality.

:s_eek: Umm. Child pornography. Yeah, no. I'm definitely not going that far. But since the scene is portrayed through the eyes of another young character, who doesn't know what is going on . . . um. I have to describe them looking at things to a certain extent before the character understands that the situation is bad. Maybe I will make it seem like more of a physical attack, to the little one's eyes. Naughty bits covered with robes. That should be enough, I think?

The Age of Consent in Europe don't matter in this case. What matters are the Scribblehub Content Guidelines, which explicitly indicate that 18+ is the age of consent.

"What matters are the Scribblehub Content Guidelines, which explicitly indicate that 18+ is the age of consent. "

ScribbleHub guidelines - there is a reason they are called guidelines after all and not laws - are arbitrary rules set by ScribbleHub - Americans I presume primarily as the age of consent is 18 and judging by the user base - without any legal binding whatsoever. The only thing they indicate is that the "age of consent" in stories featured on this site is 18 unless you want to be potentially taken down.

But I doubt strongly that the guidelines will be enforced anyway,

And if the related parties aren't human? Must a elf be over 100 or just any +18 elf in their chibi form will do? And the contrary can also be ask if there is a sapient species with a lifespan inferior to 18 years?
What about worlds with diferent years duration than earth?
And about non-biological beings, must a sex droid wait 18 years before enter service?

Unless you're talking about publishing your novel on Amazon or something, the only law you abide to are the laws of the site you're publishing your story in. In that case, you should abide by the guidelines listed in Scribblehub.

If you fail you fail to comply to them and a reader reports your story, either the chapter will be taken down, or the story will.

The guidelines exist for a very good reason, you can be sure that they will be enforced. The only way your story will get away by breaking the guidelines, is if it stays unnoticed.

If the elf is a child at 18 years old and is depicted in a sexual scenario, the story may or may not have action taken against it, I dunno, I'm not a lawyer.
If the species has a life of less than 18 years, I suggest you don't depict them in sexual scenarios because they'll never fit into Scribblehub's guidelines.

If the years are longer than Earth's, make it 18 years in the way that the characters of the story consider as 18 years old I suppose?

A sex droid is not capable of refusing or giving consent, so the question is meaningless.
If you make a fully fledged AI though, then it may be better to wait until it is 18 years old.

And if you feel like any of those situations feel arbitrary, then all I can tell you is that the guidelines were probably worded the way they were for the sake of advertisers, which don't care if your character is an adult at 5 years old, they want consent to be only at 18+, so the site's guidelines have to enforce that.
... Either that or it's because of the American laws, regardless, it's probably something beyond Tony's control.

Lol. I like how you basically say, "consent is optional dont worry about it"

Well, that's just how it works in novels, you can depict a child getting raped, but not having sex willingly.

As a lawmaker I would be very worried if a random online site could promulgate laws in any form. So for the sake of precision, don't call them laws, but call them terms of use for our beloved service provider ScribbleHub, nya. :blob_reach:

So Lolita would be abnned here? And Death in Venice too?

Yeah, they can't put you into jail nor make you pay a monetary fine, so I guess they aren't laws, but they are still the guidelines you need to follow regardless~

As for Lolita and Death in Venice... I dunno, never read those two. If they involve consent and underage characters though, then yes, they would not be allowed to be published in Scribblehub.

Hell if i care dude. I write what i want. If i gotta take it down from certain sites so be it. I aint gonna censor myself. If anything i can just make my own site and write there. Or hell...paywall the uncensored content. Kekeke. Jk.

Well if i were to compromise i would just put the uncensored version on my site. But im lazy so i prolly wouldnt bother to do all that anyway.

First, they are guidelines and not rules (there is a difference) so there is latitude for creative flexibility.
Secondly, i've found that it generally boils down to

the bolded part. So if your making it very clear that said situation is shitty, illegal, bad and definitely non-consensual then as long as you dont go into detail and are non-specific you should be fine.

On the general '18 as age of consent' that's generally the only thing i've found that's an oddity on SH. but that's a post for another time. I generally take it that as long as it is consenting and there's no significant age gap or influencing factors (by relationship) then you could have characters as low as 16 (which is a good lowest baseline for being able to give proper consent).

TL;DR: Guidelines have flexibility as long as you dont glorify subjects listed in the guidelines and arent explicit when legitimately employing them as part of a plot.

Adult age in my world is 15 and I'm planning to have the MC sleep with a 15 year old girl when he's 13. Probably going to just fade to black unless my readers really want to see their intimacy close on, even though I already have an idea on how cute and awkward (yet still lewd) it would be. I mean, if it's illegal, it's illegal.

Yeah, you could probably handle it the way Umineko no Naku Koro Ni handled it's in-the-past "age of consent" issue scene. (It is in the 7th chapter, so never animated.)

Basically, you discover just about every "witch" in the entire series so far was a girl who has suffered some kind of horrific childhood abuse in the past. So, what about the main witch? Beatrice? Well, I basically already told you what it was. Turns out, the grandfather's idea of how Beatrice was "resurrected" was that his illegitimate daughter he had with Beatrice started looking more and more like her deceased mother... yeah.

So, in the scene where it's brought up exactly what happened, it's implied but it's done in a way that there are is no uncertainty as to exactly what they are saying happened. I believe the exact terms used by the old maid servant were "I believe the love you showed to that child was in a form that she was not prepared at the time to understand." And, of course, this is talking retrospectively about the past so of course there is nothing on screen.
