Hi fellow peasants, what did you eat as a struggle meal?

Sliced daikon and vinegar, with canned tuna or sardine.
because I'm lucky and I live near wilderness: boiled dandelion, goldenrod tea + leaf, cedar leaves boiled into tea, beach seaweed
Potato. Potato. steamed, or julienned and sautéed in pan
rice + chili oil
seaweed soup

it's good, it's yummy

Puke on a Platter (aka P.O.P). Basically, whatever protein, sauce, and veggie you have access to on filler. Most common for us was mushroom soup, a can of tuna, and a can of peas, mixed, heated, and put over toast. I often went a step further to pan toast with some kind of fat (most common butter, but I've used mayonnaise, bacon grease, oil, etc etc.)

It's also known as Shit on a Shingle (Given that acryonym is S.O.S, and the struggle-food nature of the meal).

Last resort for my family, however, is baked potato with butter. nutritionally complete for a short term survival. and considering we live in the woods, small wild game is always on the table. I know how to set traps and hunt. Long as I'm quiet and it's needed, the game wardens in my area turn a blind eye.

Haha. Blink if you're asking for help. That S.O.S made me laugh.

Eggs+pancit+rice. It cost around 35 pesos, and it's amazing.
As a fellow Flip, I'm really disappointed.

I go by "buraot-ing" (asking for) my friend's food whenever I'm on my struggle meal. 🤣

Seriously, my struggle meal is rice and soy sauce. Costs around from 5 pesos (if I bought the rice) to nothing (if I cooked the rice). The soy sauce comes free from my kitchen or our canteen.

Nah, the best we can have by being "buraut" are fishballs and kikiams, sometimes kwek kwek, unless you have rich kid friends.

Wanna know the ultimate "buraot" technique? Ask for a portion of your friend's rice, then go to your nearby KFC, and use the free gravy as your dish.

Just be quick to avoid the guard. I learned this when I was in university.

Plain white rice. I have these on more occasions than I wish to admit.

And if I am feeling fancy, a pinch of salt on top, or a large piece of cane sugar as seasoning.

during my service it was potatoes and onions. salted potatoes, onion stew, and fire-roasted potatoes and onions, potato-onion skewers, you name it. truck loads of stinking onions.
these days I treasure my rice and grains. no more potatoes.

I once ate just a single boiled egg and rice for lunch no salt or anything.
