My story is a slow burn romance with R-18 scenes later down the road. I've realized people who tag their story as smut has gratuitous smut scenes and now I feel like I may be misleading my readers because there won't be as many sex scenes lol. Maybe like one or two.

Would you take off the smut tag?

Smut is generally used for stories where the R-18 scenes either play an important in the story and are common, or when they are simply too numerous to pass off as an ecchi, adult, or anything else. If they are just an occasional addition to the story, then it's definitely not smut.
Also, if you check in the dictionary, you will find that smut relates to sexual things that can offend some people because of their nature. I don't see how one or two scenes where they are perfectly reasonable to put can be offending.

I'd just use the adult tag as I do for one of my series when that part of "adult" life comes up once in a while.

I have hot steamy smut right off the get go so I tried to put all the r-18 related tags on my book since there is a lot of sex in it. If you are only going to have a few chapters, I would just mention it in the synopsis of your novel and you probably don't have to keep the tag.

remove the tag and apologise
I was about to apologize on my latest chapter but then I realized that it's odd to apologize. So I just deferred it to being a newbie writer on SH. Perhaps readers will give me a one free pass for committing such atrocity of je-baiting them.

you mislead people, intentional or not. right thing to do is admit your mistake and apologise

You can just add ecchi and a warning that extremely explicit scenes that are equal to a smut will then follow when you arrive at those chapters.

Smut is for erotica/sex that is common place i.e. every 4-10 chapters or heavily mixed into the plot, basically porn in writing with a bit of plot on the side.

This is the exact description of the genre, as-is on Scribble Hub:

Erotic work of fiction that’s mainly targeted toward females. Smut stories often gives heavy focus on love and relationships between the main characters.

Well. Damn. Lol. So I should... tag it as smut. Lmfao
I simply posted the exact definition. However, I feel it is a bit narrow yet broad. The definition says that “Smut stories often gives heavy focus on love and relationships between the main characters” but, well, any romance story fits that description.

Rather than make one of the genres Smut, you should make it Adult which is described as:
Contains mature content that is suitable only for adults. Titles in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity.

and also add a Sexual Content and Strong Language warning. Don’t forget to tag the novel as R-18 with your other tags.

I would use @Ace_Arriande’s stories as references to see what Genres and Tags (e.g. https://www.scribblehub.com/series/4211/the-true-endgame/) fit for what type of story, and read some of his works for yourself because they are good.

Where do you see that? I've hovered my mouse over some named tags in some novels but I don't get that :blob_dizzy:.
It isn’t exactly easy if you’re not accustomed to it, so I get what you mean.

To get definitions for genres (the things that appear in Story Previews)
Screen Shot 2022-07-19 at 12.50.16 PM.png
all you have to do is go to Read > Genre > click the Genre you want to learn more about > Press the down arrow that appears at the top as a breadcrumb

Screen Shot 2022-07-19 at 12.52.25 PM.png

Click the button and you will get a drop down. Select the “Genre” option.

Screen Shot 2022-07-19 at 1.04.02 PM.png

After selecting the Genre option, you will get to a page with all the possible genres any novel on Scribble Hub can have. From there, click any genre you want.

Screen Shot 2022-07-19 at 1.07.26 PM.png

Let’s say you clicked on “Action”. You will now be sent to a page that shows all the novels on Scribble Hub with the genre Action. There, press the drop-down arrow at the top of the page (in the breadcrumbs)

Screen Shot 2022-07-19 at 1.09.21 PM.png

You will now be presented with a definition of the genre.

Getting definitions for tags is essentially the same process, but usually, getting to the tags list is the difficult part. For authors, you can view the tags list in your story’s dashboard where you inputted the tags.

Just click on the hyperlink on your dashboard.

For readers with an account that has no series, idk how to normally find it but here’s the link to the tags list: https://www.scribblehub.com/list-tags/. To see the definitions, click on a particular tag and then click the drop-down arrow that appears on the page. It’s the same format as it was for genres, so I don’t want to take more screenshots.

If you want something quick that lists each tag and definition without having to go to multiple pages... here’s this monstrosity by - I think - @YuriDoggo : https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rq0C4e40eMvJoKpgTtHC9AOWr9RF-KCneuucpHqySPw/edit#gid=0 \
