What’s the worst L (loss) one of your characters have taken throughout the story? Either a one-time thing or a series of L’s

For the first couple volumes he is getting his but kicked by everyone due to inexperience but after that he starts to win his fights. He then starts dealing with the weight of past mistakes and when he finally heals from the guilt, he learns that every problem he has ever faced were the unexpected result of all of his own mistakes stacked together over time. Has to deal with the realization that it's his fault that many of his friends are dead due to his poor decisions and failures. Takes his hate out on the antagonist whom he starts to sympathize with due to his antagonists hate for him is the same as his own hate for himself, even going so far as to consider himself the true villian. He has one chance to turn everything back and undo it all but it gets stolen from him by his best friend.

Answering this thread.

My now forever hiatus work would involve MC (James, in this case) going through several hardships and to no avail as all his efforts will only result in trauma and deaths.

His beloved family will die off as a collateral, no one would ever love him because of his mutation except some friends he made, which will then get involved with him and die or maim horribly. The refugees he saved will end up getting devoured by him unwillingly and all the officials will just see him as a monster that needs to be vanquished or enslaved and misuse.

He will always get revenge but revenge is the only thing he will only get. And obviously others would want their revenge against him.

It will be like going through hell, he can choose whatever he wants to do, just that everyone's aggression against him is soaringly high and are out to kill him just because.

Which is torture porn and what made me not continue.

One-time thing that happened to Alf in SHHS,

Dead, not because of an explosion from the spaceship he drove, but because of the debris hitting only his feet and toe and not his entire body.

Either going into a coma for 2 years because he used a power he didn't fully understand or losing an arm because he was forced into a fight he couldn't handle. That's only what's happened so far, I have worse planned for him in the future. And that's only the MC.

After he saved the Isekai World, the world flipped upside down and everyone has changed the gaze upon the MC as he passes by, when he gets home, his wife NTR'd him and they're laughing about it, all his friends were killed and hanged like a thropy, his beloved motorcycle was stolen but he got accused of murdering, stealing, kidnapping, and human trafficking, locked up in prison, tortured, sentenced to death, questioned his life in another world, then he died with shame and regret.

I haven't written this kind of plot yet.

I killed off one of my MCs on the second page. The whole book then tries to determine who she was and why she died. Turns out she had a tough life. I didn't want the whole novel to be tragic, but it was the very end before there is some happiness. There is a risk in such negativity. Like driving past a car wreck. How much tragedy do you want to see? Now some stories come with trigger warnings. Some readers have had all the trouble they can live with. So I think we should expect fewer readers if we damage an MC.

Rather than taking Ls, bro just doesn't seem to get very many actual Ws.
