The game could've just featured the same exact plot without any of the original characters. They could've just set it on the same universe and present it as a different story.

But no, they had to use already established characters acting out of their personality and negating every development they had on the first game. They just had to use characters players are already well acquainted with and not only kill them in the most anticlimactic way possible but also have them make incredibly stupid decisions.

The whole plot is mediocre on its own but now they're using characters from the first game it just further makes it even more absurd. The first game didn't have an amazing story but the characters were real and likable enough to carry the torch through. This one has a generic story, a generic theme, shits on preestablished characters and introduces new people no one cares about (I will bet my liver you won't remember who Dina is in two weeks). It doesn't even deliver on the ending. "I won't kill you because it will make me as bad as you" yeah right fuck off you slaughtered hundreds of nameless goons and only decided to wash your hands """clean""" at this point

They could've made this game a standalone. People would've bought it off the product name alone. Hell, this could've been an entirely new IP and people will still buy it because Naughty Dog. But no, they decided to shit on characters people already like, create new ones people don't care and end it on the most unsatisfying way possible.

But there's the graphics and the animation and the gameplay-

Remember during the PS4 launch people looked at The Order 1884 and thought "holy shit fluid graphics and amazing animation"? This game will exactly be that, but it'll be remembered forever just for being a sequel that was never needed and still found a way to fuck up a franchise that was dead on arrival.

Only thing I know about this game is that it uses its trans character as misery porn putting them through every trauma in the book. They've managed to piss off the alt-right chuds and the progressives with that game. What an accomplishment.

That is not all too complicated. Traditionally, the left despises the alt-right and looks down on progressives as well. :blob_sir:

They always try to make a game for those who complain without playing games.
And afterwards they wonder why the people who buy the games complain even more :D

But one good trailer and people will still run to pre-order TLOU 3 :blob_cookie:

Erm...? The left is progressives, that's what I meant by those pissed of by ND's mishandling of a trans character, at least. Did you mix up leftism and liberalism maybe?

Can be. What I can say is that the American left is still far to the right by Europeans standards while the American right are basically European fascists.

Economic-wise what you might consider progressive would be unrecognizable here and also the term liberalism carries a very different meaning. European liberals are on the right side of the spectrum.

Here to tell you that no, there isn't any trans character in the game. I won't blame you, though. Most people fell for the "Abby is trans" meme due to her depiction. But you are right in misery porn. It's torture after torture without much substance within. It's gotten to the point where the characters make terrible decisions so that they could end up in these contrived situations. It's not even a 'these guys are flawed human beings so it's natural they make bad decisions' type thing. It's straight-up an idiot plot through and through. I would've taken less offence over the plot if it didn't use established characters that, in the first game, don't do this,

I'm pretty sure I've heard of a trans dude getting deadnamed by the villain or something, amongst even worse stuff. It wasn't Abby, it was Lev. article on the bullshit

Yeah of course I know liberalism is center-right. When I say progressives I mean the actual leftists, aka the socialists, the (non-soviet) communists, the anarchists, feminists, queer theorists. That's the people that were pissed off by the trans dude misery porn.

I agree that the game is trash and disrespects the characters. Hell, there is no way that
Joel, who knows that there are people out there who want to kill him, would walk into a room full of strangers and tell them his actual name. And then, after his death, one character actually spits on his corpse. Dammit, Joel wasn´t even a "character" in this game. He was just a plot device who only existed to die so the rest of the story could happen.
Also, have you guys heard of the sex scene that is in this game? Guess what, the man in the scene is a guy called Owen who looks very similar to Neil Druckmann, the writer of this game. Yep, he just created a self-insert and wrote a sex scene for it.

Alright, so I just finished the game (finally) and I have to agree with you on a lot of points.

That dragged out for waaaayyyy too long. I actually stopped because I was just overwhelmed with how much story was being unpacked with how many characters were being introduced mixed in with all the character deaths that were happening left, right, and center. And just from a story perspective, it was a weak as shit ending.

They should have just made Ellie and Abby's stories completely separate games. Maybe even release Abby's story first, to introduce a character in an already introduced universe, and then later on release Ellie's story because that's a character that everyone already knows and loves. Merging these two stories with all the detail and all the information we had to absorb was an overwhelmingly bad decision. I see what they were trying to do, but it was just too much.

And the story was good, don't get me wrong, but for such a strong beginning you need an equally, if not better, ending and Naughty Dog did not deliver. It was a weak attempt at 'self-realisation-in-the-heat-of-the-moment', especially after so many casualties from the result of Ellie's emotions. It honestly would have ended a lot better if Ellie had just fucking killed Abby and be done with it. I was hoping in the moment that it wouldn't happen (because emotional attachment to fictional characters, yes it's a problem), but it would have left a bigger impression and posed a bigger meaning than just letting Abby go.

In short: I agree, ending was dumb, length of the game was dumb, graphics and gameplay were superb, but it wasn't going to be worth the $300 I was planning to drop on the collector's edition.
