In writing my story, I've noticed that my favorite characters to write are the ones introduced as being cocky/passive aggressive/boisterous/comedic/annoying/slightly psychotic for the sake of appealing to the audience in some way, and they all have some level of involvement in the progression of the story, whether directly or by their influence on others. In the end, most of them do pass away, but that moment is where I reveal what kind of unfortunate upbringings were forced on them from a tender age, shaping them into the characters they turned out to be.

Most but not all of these guys are villains...so I guess you could say I love writing good villains for the most part.
