If it's not a genre you like writing, then wouldn't it better to write something else?

I am a comedy author! I have written comedies! But I wanna branch out and I like the plot.
Which is why it's hard to write why he would fight. I kinda lose the connection if I write anything cliche like he does it for revenge or he does it because he is morally good blah blah.
