20 bucks. Otherwise, I'll simply just live without the drawing

Unless I have absolute control, nothing.
And if they give me that "I'm not doing any redo's" nonsense, then again nothing.
If they give me a "I only do X-number of redo's", again nothing.

I've had an artist screw up what I paid him 75$ for. He said minimum 5 redo's. He screwed up all 5 redo's. Admittedly, it was little things he kept messing up, but professionalism is professionalism. It wasn't like there weren't numerous messages he could re-read to see EXACTLY what I was asking for. So, I went to the group of artists he worked with, made sure everyone knew he sucked and basically stole money from me, and last I heard, he doesn't even take commissions anymore. Sorry, not sorry.

So nowadays, I make what I need with AI and screw commissioning anyone for anything. I feel no sympathy for so-called starving artists on Twitter/TikTok/Reddit/Deviant or whatever location. I've commissioned artists 6 times, and FOUR OF THEM WERE AWFUL experiences.

In my experience, the more I paid, the worse the end-product was. The ones I paid 20$ and the one I paid 40$ for, both of them did what I asked with no mistakes, no redo's, and within three days. Perfect. The other four mouthbreathers? 75$, 125$, 150$, and 200$. These four were awful. Countless mistakes, complaining about me asking them to fix it, and then screwing me over and just leaving me with an unsatisfactory product despite what I spent. Screw artists.

I can't wait for AI to improve even more. Fingers crossed and hoping AI evolves faster, better, and stronger.

I think the most I've paid for a commission was like $600 or something. But it widely depends in artist's quality and if I like it or not. Sometimes I commission cheap artists, other times they're expensive but worth it. Usually, however, i dont like spending more than $300 per commission. Mind you, my commissions often times have several characters (minimum of 3) with background and all.
I don't think us third worlders should be in the conversation tbh :blob_hmm_two:
also, 3AM, damn u gud sis?
I'm a third worlder, just get a job

I gave up on wanting something to be 100% how I imagine it, artists are human beings and they will never be able to fully replicate what you have in mind. As long as it close enough and looks pretty though, I'm fine with that. AI is even worse though, it will never really make what you want lol. It's probably even worse than humans.

I don't have to pay AI in spite of it's mistakes though. I'll take AI any day.

That’s why I draw it myself.

I'd just be getting a cover so $100. $150 if it's really good, but it has to be breathtaking. Any more expensive and I'd rather just learn to draw.

sure i guess, i just feel like its soulless and fake. I just can't shake the feeling the things these AI generators are making aren't really my characters. it needs to be drawn by a person or it just fake soulless slop

A million trillion billion quadrillion gajillion dollary-digeri-doos!

*though seriously maybe fifty to a hundred dollars for a customized scene art, or a little more if it is complex and time consuming. If I wasn't broke.*

Maybe a point or two (1-2% of profits) for a cover, up to 10% for multiple pieces. I would see the commission as a "marketing expense" (and if the work does not sell, it was a "donation to the effort"...).

I kind of thought that until I had an online conversation with someone who was on the team at Microsoft that was disbanded when ChatGPT beat them to market with something better in most ways than what they were working on. Writing the prompts is an artform in and of itself, and if you do it well, you can actually put some "heart and soul" into it (and avoid most of the "tells" - plasticy features, blurred backgrounds, wrong number of digits or joints, etc.). He is currently using AI to pursue his childhood dream of making movies.

Sounds more like a moral dilemma on your part, not some real, actual issue. But then I'm biased. I don't really take people like you seriously, the ones crying about AI.

more than moral dilemma, it looks really shitty, like copy pasted slop that the same idiot drew over and over again, at least all the ones that generate things for free have such a weird grittiness to it that looks hideous the more you look at it. and i'm not crying kek. if anything, you're the only one crying that a human artist can't do what's inside your fucking head at 100% accuracy. you sounded so obssesed over that one little detail it feels like you're autistic.

Sounding like a cryer my dude. Looking kinda ass-hurt too buddy. I never mentioned how many details were wrong, only that they were altogether minor. Stop pretending to be intelligent kiddo. You aren't capable of it. 😉

If I had the spare money, I'd probably do like 4k+ for Kan or if I was a god-tier Korean author, I'd probably pray to get a free one from Gemi_Ningen the GOAT (dude doesn't do comms, literally just makes free covers for novels they like). Otherwise, 0 as writing isn't something that makes me money (or something that I envision will) and therefore, not really worth investing in.
