1) What do you struggle with the most?
2) What are things you haven’t figured out/wish you had known earlier?
3) Which Chibi style do you adore?
1) Life.
2) I don't know.
3) I just saw Corty's art, and I'm really adoring it.

This is the only one I did in my math class. So, no hope.

1. I can't draw either
2. Not sure
3. Zena (Library of Ruina) chibi style (can't remember the artist). Imagine being one of the most feared beings in the world responsible for so much misery, but the fan base reduces you to this.

I would categorize Corty Chibi as round bun Chibi :blob_cookie:

Noted :blobreading: Posing is probably a point many struggle. Simplifying is harder than most people think!

From your example I assume you prefer 1:3 over 1:1 body-head ratio? I love tiny, thing Chibi bodies and a round head :blob_cookie:

1) Eyes, damn eyes. They're the best part, but they're very difficult for me to draw.
2) I don't think there's anything in particular
3) My favorite would be a detailed chibi. Not much preferences past that, but I generally don't like overspimplified chibis (that includes most extremely exagerrated ones where there's just no space to add the details, but it's not a hard rule).

1) Consistency, since I draw according to my client's request.
Just look at these:

First one's a robot, so how do you 'chibi' that? Second is...well, that's Yorda's request. And third is a request for a blob (from AliceShiki). (I consider it as chibi) :blobreading:

2) I think I got my chibis figured out. Thanks!

3) Heh...

Do you even hafta ask that?

I can't draw, but I adore the big eyes and heads.

My favorites are Hans style and the girl I have been commissioning.

Oh, I just remembered. I did try to draw you that one chibi fishy.

You are welcome. ^^

I think that's what you call it 1:3 Ratio, but most of the time I can't decide which I find the cutest since almost all of them are XD

So if I make a tutorial, a section should be devoted to eyes? Noted :blobreading:

Can you rate the below what you consider oversimplified and detailed?

I'm asking for the next BL Banquet workshop! Since I have no writing skills to share and don't know how to host games :')))))

(What horror or adult film is the 4th from? What are those hands on the fabric?)

It's difficult to say for those examples, since they're more or less in between. The 4th one illustrates the issue the best, though I'm not sure I would draw the line there or not. If it was intended it's not a problem per se, but notice that both of those characters have extremely simple design. What saves them in my eyes is the folds of the clothing and generally details of the head. Imagine the same, but with a single-colored blob for clothing and cartoony hair, and it would be oversimplified, at least for me.

What I mean by details is primarily not the style, but the amount of small elements, trinkets, marks. Notice in the example (not my drawing, just in case), how the character is very simple, but the crown, the earrings, the frills, the shading, and a few more elements make the whole thing complex and actually resemble a scaled down, actual character.

4) was the cover for the BL Palace Autumn Anthology with the dual theme macabre and cozy :blob_happy:

The detail criteria should be outside of the scope of what a general Chibi tutorial can give :blob_hmm_two:

But I think making a before and after chibification comparison should be helpful :blob_hmph:

If you plan to conduct a 'workshop' on chibis, why don't you start from the basics? A lot of starting 'chibi' illustrators struggle with what style they'd take.

And also, how to 'speed' up chibi drawing process.

it's a 45 min livestream so I need to compress

the basics are naturally part of it, but I still need to decide what other parts should have special attention

Try talking about "what makes the chibi cute?" There are illustrators who see chibi only as a 'big eyed and head' artwork, and not a serious 'style'.

Edit: Ah! You can also talk about 'oversized' props to complement chibi art, and when to use those.
