When you read this whole thread as an author and none of the tropes apply to your novel & what you've planned... Feels good man. :blobtaco:

I abhor most tropes, I think everyone forgot to mention the beta Japanese MC trope where the main character doesn't touch any women forever in order to perpetuate the very awkward pre-relationship situation. Heck, Rebuild World is absolutely amazing but if it has that issue when the MC won't be 10 years old and if he continues being shy, I'll be disappointed.
I've stopped reading a lot of Japanese LNs/manga due to this, I have gained the [Beta-Detecting Evil Eye] to spot those very quickly.

The main character being a loser who has no special talents and then find out oh wowwwww I'm actually the specialist most powerful descandant of an Elder God with secret blood line reincarnation benefits letting me wield Excalibur and therefore making me the one true ruler of England.

I'm not gonna undercut my mc's hard work and progression by some shitty realisation.

When characters reincarnate into a magic world and somehow aren't itching to experience magic themselves. (Especially, Korean Romance novels are guilty of this)
100% agree. I dropped a one novel that I already forgot the name because of this. MC had 90% free time in the mansion and she didn't even bother with low level magic that every noble used. She could've used it to easily get away from the situation if she learned it, but no, she almost died before being saved by ML that was conveniently nearby. Yeah. I dropped it right away after that.

I, too, dislike when novels try to make the MC some sort of loser with no special talents and nothing but hard work.

Harems. Hatems. I can stomach multiple people fancying the same peep, but male harems would end in multiple bouts of brawls or duels to establish a pecking order while a harem of females would inevitably end with poison, death and psychological torture until there's only one member left (alive). But characters just suddenly loving each other and only love each other when MC is with them only because they love the same person is bullshit.

Isekai for the sake of an isekai tag. If you can replace the isekai'd with someone (special) from in-world then it makes no sense to have that setting.

Rape Fantasy I hate it mostly, because of me in general. Like they rape a woman and now she falls inlove with him that's some bullshit

Over the top revenge. I found this manga one time can't remember the name but this dude gets betrayed and killed yadda yadda you know the story any way he gets a second chance and comes back and then proceeded to get revenge which I kid you not involved feeding the persons child to the parents. I get it. You want revenge but the moment when you start doing stuff worse then they ever did I'm not gonna take you seriously.
Ah, I read that manga. Fucking sick, the MC in that one.

LitRPG genre, I tried it, never got into it. If I wanted an RPG I'd play one, not read about someone living in one.

Harems seem like they're just self-inserts, IMHO.

And for the big one: The "They lived happily ever after" trope at the end. Nothing is like that. You don't have shit go down in a story and then by the end there's peace. There will always be people that have to be on the bad side of the coin, that will eventually cause some kind of trouble. I'm not saying happy endings are bad, they're good actually. But them living a peaceful life after a war, or some shit? No. There's all kinds of other trouble stirring, physical entities, or emotional trauma.

Edit: I'm not saying LitRPG is bad btw, It's just not my cup of tea.

Dungeons with no variety. Fight goblins. Kill orcs. Defend village. Rinse and repeat.

Luke, I'm your father.
Goblin Slayer I shall call you, obliterate this world of Goblins!
Speed\agility is better than brute strength. Because it's bullshit a lot of times. But whenever it's not bullshit, agility is clearly op and superior, yet characters and worldbuilding try to convince readers that it's not. So, basically, the author tries to mask the plot armor.

I think I summoned Jemini with this rant. Soon I will see a reply that consists of four-five beefy paragraphs explaining how I'm wrong because I'm not someone who did martial arts.
Yes it's kinda bullshit as strength, agility, and dexterity needs to be balanced.
Newbies not getting curve stomped by everyone in a fight.
YESSSSS.

On my side I really do not like the OP FROM THE START TYPE MC THAT HIDES HIS POWERS GETS A HUGE HAREM FOR NO REASON AND HAS NO COMMON SENSE ALONGSIDE A FUCKING BRAIN.

I hate the trope of the 'cold, cruel, handsome' male first ignoring the female lead(usually his wife from arranged marriage) and making her life hell. Then after regression or whatever, he gets a warm heart and all, the author makes a bullshit reason to hide the incompetency of the male lead regarding taking care of his wife. The female lead also starts liking him and the male lead says with his 'oh so mighty husky and harsh voice', that she is his only. Gets stupidly jealous of her interacting with other males when he didn't do shit earlier.

And the female lead also remains with him, go figure. :cautious:

Probably the mc saving girls left and right then the said girls will somehow fall in love with the mc. Like this thing is disgusting to me and I will always try to avoid it like a plague.

The protagonist doing a montage slaying monsters left and right at the start of the novel. It isn't bad I'm just tired of it.

The protagonist simping for a child(not romantically) and he will always do everything the child request. Imagine having a power fantasy novel then some random child gonna show up in the middle of it with no connection with the plot whatsoever? I'm okay with things that actually connect them to the plot, not those things that just appear because of fan service. (it isn't necessarily bad, I'm just tired of it.)

The protagonist overpowering people left and right. Just no, never.

Overly smart protagonist. Those types of mc that will always outsmart people left and right thinking they are smart but in truth, they are only manipulating idiots. (Well-executed ones are good though)

Protagonist harassing someone. No, it isn't only them being a pervert it's called harassment.

Villains that are overly dumb trying to make the protagonist look good.

There are maybe many more tropes I hate but the main ones are this I guess?
