Why gods use heroes instead of solving things themselves?

What would be some good reasons that gods would empower a Hero and send them to fight rather than just smite the evil being themselves?

If a god does everything for you and saves you from every little problem what exactly makes them a god and not just a slave to a bunch of mortals? An OP slave is still just a slave

1.Perhaps the gods have poor methods of intervening on the mortal plane. Such as the direct intervention being the equivalent of the United State's entire nuclear arsenal.
2. The good gods are not able to enter the mortal plane, only influence it to a minor degree. So they can use enough power to create a hero, but not enough to just blast the problem out of existence.
3. The gods believe in mortal decision making. They want the mortals to decide their own fate and simply give their power to facilitate such choices. Granted this one doesn't make sense since most stories have the gods forcing heroes on a quest instead of giving them authority to determine how to handle the problem best.
4. Plot convenience!

Probably like they themselves fighting an even bigger threat, or they playing a gamble with the evil god for entertainment or something like that.

Their power is too much and if they interfere directly then reality will crumble or something like that. There's also the troupe "We are Gods and you are our plaything, so fight that guy while we enjoy seeing you suffer and struggle"

Gods being tied up with affairs in the divine domain.

Because a god should act as a neutral party. Neither side is actually good or evil to them. Both sides are simply trying to exist. Helping one side directly leads to jealousy on the other side and it only results in more conflict between the two sides until one side eradicates the other further down the line. A god isn’t really interested in the eradication of either side, but rather watching the way a scientist might watch ants in a conflict. The god would choose to use a third party as a balancing piece when the sides are unequal to stabilize the two sides, thus creating a delicate equilibrium. This is because competition between species leads to them evolving and becoming stronger. Those the god observes would be nothing more than a science experiment to pass their time, something interesting that might alleviate some of their eternal boredom. Though the god may grow fond of all his creations and love them all equally, those creations may come to hate that god thinking they’re viewed as nothing more than play things for the god’s entertainment once they gain awareness. If a god reveals himself to his creations and shows impartiality to one side, he will be hated by the other side. A god may simply not wish to be hated by those he created. Thus, rather than be hated directly, use a hero as the sacrificial piece to redirect hatred away from oneself.

It really depends on your in-lore explanation. Usually if there's a demon lord something has gone horribly wrong and the god fucked up and is on the last bit of their power, or it's just the natural order of things and there is no need to interfere.

Cracking a nut with a sledgehammer?
Bound by an agreement of non interference?
It’s all a game to them, why would they cheat?

Could be lots of things.

If you--a mortal--can understand the logic of the gods, then they are not gods anymore.

Gods can’t directly intervene without paying the price(something like losing power or paying ‘god money’)
Or it could because it’s an something like a ‘world killer’ that travels around worlds, immune to gods power, only be able to be hurt by a mortal

Cause and effect. There are multiple forces wrestling for control over a world, good gods, evil gods and etc. The more you intervene, the more the opposing forces can interfere. So creating a "hero system" gives more flexibility as the god doesn't have full control of the hero and the hero generally has to grow stronger over time. Aka, the more restrictions, the less the other side can intervene.

There are many gods with varied interests. If one "Good" god directly intervenes to help the human kingdom, then an "Evil" god has an excuse to help the Demon Kingdom. Basically it's all checks and balances. Edit: Oops, the last person said basically the same thing. Anyway, still true though.

What is a god, but of your own imagination?

Ps. Trying to sound profound but instead sounding like a hillbilly moron.

Also, those who can, work, those who cannot, supervise. Think the gods like your regional manager and you will know how that feels.

Is it just me or is it always a goddess, not a god, that is completely fucking useless and cannot do anything for herself? Just saying.
