Why use AI to write your "book"?

I am honestly struggling to figure out why any author would use AI to publish a book. I mean I suppose I get editing?
But post the last few days I've seen more AI books than I care to even discuss. I mean new books, not just ones that ask for feedback.

So please, if someone knows why it's used to write like 80%, why even bother. Isn't the whole idea behind a story is that it's yours to tell?

Thanks for listening :)

Because they don't want to be authors. They want the perks that come with being an author. As an author, you have the ability to create the story you want to see. They can create the story they want without working on it, and potentially they can get fame or fortune.

Remember to report those stories, as they break content guidelines.
Sadly, lastly there was so much of them it's hard to keep up. So report, report, report!
Oh I have. I just seriously found one with 1 chapter loaded and it came back as 90% AI.
like...just why?
I just wish I could attach the results to my report so it would ease the burden, but oh well.
Because they don't want to be authors. They want the perks that come with being an author. As an author, you have the ability to create the story you want to see. They can create the story they want without working on it, and potentially they can get fame or fortune.
I mean don't you have to have some kind of prompt in order to generate the story in the first place? Or is that AI as well?
If there is an idea that its based around, wouldn't you think its much more fulfilling to create the plot yourself?
Where is the fame and fortune? I suppose if there is a 'tip' jar then you could give them a bit of money, but man there are better scams than that.

Never trust those checkers. They aren't trustworthy and are failing all the time. You need to look at the text using your own eyes and knowledge of how humans write.
I would agree with you on something as low as say 1-10%, as that could be due to using some kind of editor.
But come on, it will not see 90% as AI unless its really overwhelming.
I mean I could even "maybe" see 30% as an error - but 60-70-80 and up? I tend to believe the checker, I doubt anyone would use it or pay to use it if the program were that unreliable. The sites all want you to pay for unlimited text checks. So if it is unreliable then they can't get consistent money out of it.

Well, it's fast, has a broad vocabulary, and access to countless existing stories. The "problem", why it's often so obvious, is that many of these so-called "authors" just don’t care. Most casual readers just eat it up anyway. Like with any other job, it all comes down to time and effort.

Some people aren’t writers, they’re directors.

A narrative director in a game or a movie director doesn’t personally write every line or scene, but they’re still crucial to shaping a coherent story. Their job is to guide the emotional arc, the themes, the tone. They have to trust the specialists to help realise their vision.

Writing with AI, for some, works the same way. They're acting like directors.

Sure, some directors are also writers. They create key scenes, style guides, casting scripts. Others just focus on the feeling they want to convey and trust their team to bring it to life.

Think about the movie Gladiator. You probably think of Russell Crowe, or Ridley Scott. But how many people think of John Logan or William Nicholson, the two co-writers / screenwriters with David Franzoni?

I don't think people using AI really feel like writers. I think they are trying to be the director.

Which makes sense, because the industry sensationalise that role, and obfuscate the authors.

I can easily write something that those checkers will flag as AI and will not be far from my actual style.
Does this mean my works are written by AI? Am I an AI?

I also can tell, let's say GPT, how to write something and it will return 10% or less on those checkers.
Does that mean GPT is human?

Those checkers are a load of bullshit, honestly. Never work, easy to confuse.
It's much easier to look by just using your eyes. Even "properly trained" AI will be easily distinguished from human writer if you know what to look at.

The disenchantment is coming real fast.

I'm new as a writer here. I'm trash, but I'm trying.

But... seeing the amount of mass-released AI content that can get on the trending page is... disheartening. Especially since I started getting interested into the forum parts of this website.
Forums make these stories much more visible since for some reason, their authors still try to submit them in feedback channels...

And worst of all, the fact that because the updates are regular (and unless a keen eye pays attention to such things), the novel will end up with a more widespread audience than some genuine quality work.

Seeing AI story 78th about "Ethan the edge-lord killer of universes in his revenge power-fantasy" is just depressing.
While some of us are spending hours on typos and deciding on how to put some flow in our stories, these people can just use "the butler" as @Tempokai calls it, and mass-feed their readers.

Also, knowing that your own story may become fuel for an AI's training model... is a very sad thought.
