Your protagonist escapes their novel, and wakes up as you. In the modern world, without any of their fantasy powers, in the same circumstances as you.

Now they are the author, and they can continue writing (or quit) what happens in the future of your novel, their previous world, as they live in peaceful modern society. You, on the other hand, are stuck as them, in your most recent chapter.

Show me what happens, lol.

Depends on which MC and which story. Kelly (Strange Awakening) is a marketing expert so would find a way to sell the story for money. Despite me being pretty useless as Sparrow.
David (Between Worlds) ... would be a bit upset because, not that there's anything wrong with her but my wife would be a definite downgrade from Thellissandra and want to find a way back (and, assuming we go by most recent chapter WRITTEN, he'd figure it was part of the Trials at first, and not believe any of it). But he'd be better at my life than I am, given his skills with computers, and would probably make a small fortune first. If I got his powers ... I would probably find a way to switch places back, probably getting Audrey to figure out where to go first. But maybe I could figure out a way to restore his powers to him without giving them up and become a true mage myself. Maybe.
Jack would probably be a bit upset but also relieved to not have to face monsters all the time. Meanwhile, I'd be dead because, well, monsters.
Nathan would finally know what he was (at least NOW) while I would be dead because Supervillains.

Eerie woke up and reached for the top of her head. However, there was nothing. The signature hat she carried with her disappeared. Moreover, the feeling of magic power no longer coursed through her veins. She looked around the small apartment in awe.

"Is this Earth? Again?"

The witch tried to call forth her staff, but it would not appear. She tried to conjure the powerful magics she cultivated over a thousand years, yet nothing. Not a single one would answer her call.

That wasn't all, she didn't recognize her surroundings at all. The computer sitting on the desk was newer than the ones she remembered. The curved monitor appeared way more vivid than she remembered high definition when she turned it on.

The computer whirred to life, and the fans purred as background noise. The dim lighting in the room made Eerie think that a vampire lived there. Upon opening the desktop, the first thing she discovered was a writing software on the taskbar.

"Libre office? What the heck is this?"

She browsed through the many unfinished stories housed within, until she stumbled on something astonishing. Sitting in one of those folders was a story called Overpowered Witch Reincarnation.

Eerie gasped as she looked it over. Her entire life was detailed in small segments called chapters. She was relegated to a character on a page. Eerie couldn't help but frown at the revelation. Was her life really something so simple? Was it something to be detailed and posted on a free writing site called Scribble Hub?

However, a sudden lightbulb went off in Eerie's head. "What if I just make this Envy character break the fourth wall? What happens if the next chapter is her coming back to this world?"

Eerie began typing rapidly. She had friends in the other world she'd not give up on, and she had a newfound spirit. She would make this 'Envy' write more chapters, even if she had to force her.

In no time, the chapter began to shape. The characters in the world were shocked by Eerie's replacement. Sine wished for the witch to come back, and Envy made the wish come true. From within the pages, the new overpowered witch cast her most overpowered spell yet.

The vampire witch slammed her staff into the snow. Time and causality froze. The universe warped and bent for the will of the vampire.

Eerie froze, and a whirlpool of black sucked her inside. Like a light switch, the two were replaced with a flicker of darkness.

Everyone on Earth thought it was just a derangement of their minds, but only two would ever know the truth. One of them was the queen of the night, writing forever more into the night. And the other, it was the witch---Eerie---singing into the twilight.

Getting pampered by the male lead while the person I replaced get to essentially become the god of their (now fictional) world don't sound so bad ngl.

Um, sorry about your wife? Lol. And your death from monsters. Sounds rough, buddy.
The good news is that since your protagonist is said author of the novel now, maybe they'll cooperate and try to save you?

I ain’t even gonna write it, I know I am definitely fcked. :blob_hmm:
Lmaooooo. Understandable.

Nice! At least someone is happy in this scenario. And this is why writing romance fantasy is the safest amongst all genres(?) /jk

Um, sorry about your wife? Lol.
Like I said, there's nothing wrong with her except in comparison to ... well, any of my leading ladies actually, at least in the stuff I've posted (though Carol is pretty much what my wife would have been in her late 20s if she hadn't had three kids and been preparing to divorce her first husband by then .... and Liz pretty much has her personality and profession, other than being gay)...

And, for that matter, my wife would probably be happier with any of my male leads (except Jack... since he still smokes, even if he is trying to cut down)... though if any of the FEMALE leads swapped places with me, she would be very confused...

I trust Curtis to be decent, though I imagine there would be quite a lot of drama with my wife and smol child adjusting to a formerly isekaied finance bro replacing daddy.
As far as my situation? Well fuck. I just got kidnapped by dark elves. At least I know more than he does about what they want.

Somehow they die before I do. I mean he is bleeding out throughout the entire story.

The protagonist will have the same circumstances as you, and you will have the same circumstances as them in the story.

If you, the author, happen to be completely healthy in real life, they will also swap with you and be healthy and fine. And you will open your eyes in the circumstance of the protagonist in the lastest chapter of your story, so if they're bleeding out, you will be bleeding out in their place. Unless, the protagonist, now the author of the story, decides to write that's you're ok. That's what I meant.

Makes a lot of sense. Congrats on you for having a decent protagonist! :)

@StoneInky not of good health. They wake up with difficulty breathing don’t understand how to use a nebulizer can’t find an inhaler and die.

One out of three ain’t bad. I’ve got a giant sprawling fanfiction that was the first thing I ever posted and the MC of THAT was a real piece of shit. World conquest mostly just because he had the capacity to do so. He was in a broadly good place at the end of the story so I’d be ok with subbing in for him, but I don’t want him near my kid.

My self indulgent side story with a burnt out planeswalking salaryman would probably be the worst on both counts. Gil isn’t in anywhere near as secure a place as Erich ended up, as he has to risk his life routinely to keep himself from experiencing personality death, and is kinda a sociopath. He’s fun to write and a good place to put all of my more asinine ideas in between chapters of the story I’m actually taking seriously.

If I had to choose one to swap with, it would absolutely be Curtis. He has a modest amount of power that is extremely easy to use, and he would at least try to be a decent person to my family. His current situation is fairly dire, but hopefully manageable. Luckily he’s also the one I updated most recently so I think I default to him regardless.

I'm very sorry about that. Hope your health gets better. Bad health is absolutely horrible.

Lmao, you just dodged two bullets, then. But the salaryman sounds most interesting, most fun to both read and write, as the protagonist of a story, I'll check him out. Hm. And that sounds like a great synopsis to a novel... burnt out planewalking salaryman suddenly wakes up in the modern life with a wife and kids... dooming the author...

I prolly end it fast with a bullet or something
Ah... not the worst way to go, all things considered.

Whatever is in your head is probably better than what I actually wrote lol. Like I said, Gil is the outlet for my horniest and most self indulgent writing ideas, and is largely a dumb fanfic. I haven’t even bothered reposting his story on this website. By the end of the first arc he has convinced Classic Disney Snow White to be his live-in maid and lover using unfathomably questionable methods, and has traveled to 4 other extremely eclectic IPs since then.

That said, if the vague concept that was planted by the initial description inspired something in you, awesome. Just because I’m extremely self effacing about the quality of that story doesn’t mean I’m not proud of some of the weird ideas I dabbled in for it. That poor bastard has been through the wringer, lived a few hundred lives, and largely forgot how to see people as people instead of NPCs in the simulated worlds he beta tests. I just didn’t create him with any particular intent to really delve into the borderline cosmic horror that is his life/afterlife beyond off hand comments and occasional rumination in between hijinks.

I'll go insane because of the side-effects of her powers. She'll go insane because why is she suddenly so pasty and weak! That's not fair!
