Personally, I think the primary point of most systems is to provide a motivation to the main character. Any main character with a system, will inherently be given at least some motivation to try and make progress with their system. For a character to ignore it, would be very strange. If the system awards points/power for killing monsters, then the main character needs to hunt monsters. If it rewards getting customers at a cafe, then they need to get customers, etc. It's a super easy to understand motivation.
Yes, well, it will take awhile, 5 chapters in exact for the MC to get it. Because basically MC is a pessimistic POS that worries about his future. FYI, a lot of system users end up facing trials, sometimes life and death. The system itself is also not holding any punches in telling MC that he might die and/or maim and shits happen to people who reveal themselves having paranormal powers, the govt, some sinister families both ancient and rich. Basically every enemies you will find in a typical webnovel, and the prospect scared MC of facing such people. In the end MC understands that he is stuck to it and might as well grind his way up to OPness, which does not happen as he is not the main hero, and people are gunning for him for being the weakest system user. Yup, sucks to be him.

That actually sounds like a setup that would be perfect for a survivor type, who constantly displays their ability to get out alive (often at significant cost), except you're starting the story with someone who has no training for it, and would probably end up dead in most settings (were they not the main character). Getting them from coward to determined survivor likely requires forcing them to realize that running and hiding isn't enough. Personally, I'd recommend giving them a teacher or guide of some sort (possibly even a journal or book someone left behind), to help them get from coward to survivor. Whether by luck, or due to them realizing they need training. Though sometimes it's better for them to figure it out on their own (the internet can help with that), once they realize they can't just run and hide, but need more active safety measures.
