    You could make it so that there's a reason he has to refuse e.g. family traditions hence makes the character more aversive to their feelings.

    My character will stop time and bring everyone who is an innocent bystander outta the country then he would cross some borders to some random country and steal one of their nukes and say "oops I dropped it". Then escapes from the facility and starts time again then watches everything unfold...
