It's hard to change perspectives mid-project. Although it's understandable that you, as an author, wants to change focus, perhaps you could initiate it as a separate novel instead? Keep the same characters, and the same plot, but this one will have another approach as a story. It could be a good consideration.

@TsumiHokiro I think it would be awkward to start anew with a second version of this story, and perhaps the changes would be too controversial for the audience that I have now. Hmm, I just worry that my work will be known for the smut content only when it has more than that.

Maybe it's just struggling with a balance of a serious adult fantasy story and a story with smut scenes.

You could call it the second arc of the story. It has less emphasis on Smut content. There would be no problem therefore. Whereas the first part of the story had more sex, the second part is where you would develop something else. Then in the future, you could come back with more spiciness again.
