If you look at most of these supposed "Hungarians", you will find out they are German. They were born with German names. They spoke German as their native language. They were educated and studied in the German world, as they were part of the old Austrian-Hungarian world.
So the notion to call them Hungarian is laughable. It is just Americans having no idea of central European history and multiethnic composition of the Austrian Hungarian Empire.
No. Obviously not. The major towns and cities were always the place of the German speaking elite, meanwhile the rural population was Hungarian. It is the long story of the Ostsiedluung that was going on since medieval times, where local lord invited German settles to upgrade their economies.
They brought knowledge and trade to these impoverished regions and were thus rewarded with certain privileges in exchange.
